  1. --Go small bears. Makes sense. I doubt if the word "cubs" translates into japanese very well. I think it would be cool to see banners at Wrigley (or should I say the Fuku-dome), that would say "Go Cubs Go" in japanese. I'm sure it would get alot of attention from the japanese media.
  2. yep --Even if we go to camp with this team, I bet we'll add one or two new players before the start of the season.
  3. --Who's Dayton Moore? I'm serious. I've never heard of him.
  4. I was about to suggest that we put this in the Rivalries forum. I think they've taken over as the team to beat in missouri. I for one, wish we'd play the Royals again. If it meant us not playing the White Sox one less time, would be fine with me.
  5. Actually Leon Lee is Derrek's father. His uncle is former major leaguer Leron Lee. Leon Lee --Thanks for the correction NC. Cubs.com definitely had their facts mixed up. Hey, does anybody know how to say "Go Cubs Go"! in Japanese? What would the characters be for that?
  6. ---I too just wanted to thank you Mark for your hard work and nice report. It was greatly appreciated.
  7. No no no  My prediction if in fact this deal is dead (at least for the time being) is that Roberts will have a terrrible first half of the season. If in fact, he has done "roids" more than once, then he wont dare try to take them again. Rich Hill will have a break out year and although Andy will be calling Jimbo, to possibly get this deal done--Hendry will stand pat. I want Brian Roberts as much as anyone but I think it would be interesting, if this is the way things played out.
  8. Sweet, Big Z is a Styx fan. --yeah "Truffle" and Zambrano must be big Styx fans. I used to be until Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw and the gang came out with that wimpy song. What was that robot's name? Kilroy? Wow, in the later years, Styx really got away from the type of music that made them famous. Hey, maybe as a present to Fukudome, we could give him a copy of the smash hit: "Mr. Roboto"! Don't worry. It's okay, I'm only kidding.
  9. I believe that the only live broadcast was from last night. They usually record the Saturday sessions and put them on the WGN website eventually. --Okay, thanks JGalt.
  10. Japanese? He can barely speak English. He no berry berry goo. lol. You're right about that. Hey, does any of our posters know japanese? Could somebody throw us a few lines?
  11. -- I dunno, maybe I'm the only one but I really got excited to hear how the Cub players said they were really looking forward to meeting Kosuke Fukudome. I really wish he would have taken a break from his training, bundled up the wife and kid, and come to the Convention. Anyway, this is what the players said: "They play the game the same way we play it," Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee said of Japanese players. "If [Fukudome] can play there, he doesn't need to change here. They're very fundamentally sound players, and if your fundamentals are sound, you'll be all right." Lee spent a few summers in Far East when his father, also Derrek, and uncle, Leon Lee, were playing for the Japan's Lotte Orions. Does Lee speak any Japanese? "Just a little, very little," he said. "I'm hoping it comes back to me -- but it's been more than 20 years." Zambrano's Japanese is even more limited. "'Arigato' is the only thing I know how to say," Zambrano said. That means "thank you." Alfonso Soriano played in Japan from 1995-97. Can he speak any Japanese? "A little bit," Soriano said. "I can't wait to meet [Fukudome]." --This will be an exciting year, I can't wait. link: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080118&content_id=2351060&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  12. Hey, I just checked WGN radio's website to see what the schedule was for the this afternoon, it says that "The Money Show" with Bill Moeller, is currently on the air. But the schedule for the Convention says other wise. It reads: Saturday, 1:30-2:30pm "Storytelling with Cubs Legends," with Steve Cochran Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Lee Smith and Rick Sutcliffe. I continue to have "audio issues," so I can't listen in. Could I possibly talk any of few fine gentlemen to give us an update?
  13. My NSBB buddies to the rescue, thanks again 4 the updates/and or commentary.
  14. I can't tell you Omar, Rammy, and Prime Time just how much I appreciate the updates. I look forward to the WGN feed for months--- and then, to audio issues. Oh well, maybe I can figure it out by tomorrow.
  15. I appreciate the update Omar...keep 'em coming.
  16. Anyone currently listening to WGN's feed? I don't know what happened but something's wrong with my ability to listen in. I guess my only saving grace is that 720am does make their broadcasts available to the public.
  17. Enjoyed the article, it was an excellent read but I didn't care too much for the constant use of the F-word. Nevertheless, I came away with a new appreciation for Hendry. ---What's with NSBB for the second post?

  19. You're right Aramis, this thread should read "Cubs sign Lieber" or something similar...or just start a new thread entirely. NSBB regets the the double post.

  21. If anyone is interested, WGN Radio has posted their event schedule for the 23rd Annual Cubs Convention. I know I'll be tuning in. Hey, I wonder if Jon "Liebs" Lieber will be showing up. http://wgnradio.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=38791&Itemid=182
  22. Or should there be some qualitative measure added? Frankly, 100 "Hey, how ya doin'?" posts don't strike me as much of a qualification. Perhaps 100 or some other number would be the threshhold at which someone would be *considered* for All-Star status. I've set up "Special" ranks and ranks that are determined by the number of posts. The ranks by the number of posts are: Bench Player - 0 Posts Everyday Player - 25 Posts Veteran Player - 250 Posts All-Star - 1000 Posts I'm still trying to figure out a process for the Special Ranks (the only one I'll mention right now is HOF). I imagine that I'll have some nomination / voting process. --I'm currently at 315 posts (although I wasn't given credit for my 12:32pm post on transactions (Cubs on verge of signing Lieber-- so I should be at 316). Anyway, I guess at this rate (I think I joined in 2004), it will be a very long time before I reach All-star status, because I most always, never post during the regular season (I guess I'm too wrapped up in the Cubs)...it's only during the offseason, that I feel the need to fill the void.
  23. How do I go premium? Since the switch to PhpBB3, Premium doesn't currently exist. I'm sure Tim will provide more updates when his schedule allows him to "recreate" Premium under the new board. --Okay, thanks Banedon.
  24. --- I just hope that this is NOT the big annoncement (the signing of J.Lieber) that Hendry and the Cubs, are planning to make before the Convention.
