  1. but the only Manny Acosta, according to br.com, doesn't seem to have ever been part of the organization. is that correct? Correct. I posted and then looked him up. I should have looked him up and then posted. I did the same with Lohse -- I had no idea until I saw that today. Apparently, Lohse netted us Rick Aguilera (one of the earliest Cubs I remember) and Scott Downs :)

  3. don't think the first bolded one was ever a cub, and I'm not sure who the second two bolded ones are...
  4. There isn't a place for gay jokes on this board. It was neither written as, nor intended to be, a "gay" joke. But oh well ... I guess that's why I'm not a moderator on this forum. lol, don't mean to stir up trouble . . . but that's pretty good :) (I'll leave out your quote from my post, just in case a mod wants it gone too, since it totally makes clear what the [deleted by mod] was all about ;))
  5. But all of the sigs, and certainly the 26 page thread, concern how bad of an announcer he has (as well as butcher of the english language, which doesn't help). He wasn't mentioned out of the blue here, either. The "quoted" post called the Cubs inconsistent -- which over the years, the have been on the road . . . but it's a running joke that, when Joe can't come up with anything else to say about a team/player, they are "inconsistent." The Sandberg thing may have made it personal for some fans, but there's a very logical case against Joe Morgan.
  6. "That's unbelievable, Patrick!" I've never heard ron call pat patrick before Then you must never have listened to Pat and Ron call a game before lol, has he every called him "Pat"?
  7. As someone who was really disappointed to have worked during the entire game, I REALLY appreciate this video. Well done. And go figure, this is maybe only the 2nd or 3rd game all year that I didn't catch at least the beginning or end of! :D
  8. Good for us if today was the start of a trend for Edmonds rather than the proverbial blind squirrel finding the nut. I'm not holding my breath for that to happen. good idea since they don't even play their next game until tomorrow.
  9. I didn't realize so many people disliked LLF. Nor did I realize some of these people treated people they didn't like like this. If it's not a great thread, it's not a great thread . . . it's just a message board.
  10. niiiiiice. That was an entertaining game (err, last couple innings), thank you Chicago Cubs.
  11. "first hit for Fontenot in a long time" I'm okay with that. :)!!!!
  12. I've always wondered -- and the current direction of this thread makes it the most convenient place to ask -- but, how can I get WGN in HD. I'm way out it nebraska and my cable provider is Time Warner Cable . . . and I just don't entirely understand HD subscriptions.
  13. there's a perfectly logical explanation, you guys.
  14. At least that has some impressive durability inherent in it. What I can't stand is the praise he got/gets for getting 200 hits for the Cubs. He literally set the record for lowest BA for a 200-hit season (.297, I believe).
  15. It's attitudes like this that keep Zambrano out of jail. ;) It's the right answer from the wrong guy right now. If Chipper Jones gave the same answer, he'd be lauded for it -- not taking his amazing season too seriously, remembering to stay level-headed. It's the same for an abysmal season, too.
  16. Agreed with the others -- not even close. We didn't trade anyone away to get him. We really aren't paying him anything. And the playing time is annoying . . . but he's not hitting EVERY day, and I can already tell management is getting tired of him.
  17. pretty entertaining. :D (Though I do hope it was intended as satirical as I took it to be, lampooning the Jeter-hate more than reporting on it).
  18. I don't see how his OBP would decline if he hit 15-20 homers. If his approach is patient line-drive hitting, attempting to hit more home runs would change that approach. It's not some for-certain thing, but it seems reasonable.
  19. this is the 7000th Cubs forum thread. just sayin'
  20. Why Frank Thomas? Had a good year last year, and is doing just fine so far with oakland.
  21. Agreed. The sooner everybody just views him as a baseball player and not a Japanese baseball player, the better. It would help if analysts would quit w/ the ridiculous comparisons to ONLY other Japanese players... Not saying it doesn't happen to other races, but man, people wonder why race relations are still an issue....well, at least those people who'll even acknowledge issues remain. And you're right, people wearing that stuff look like total tools, but lack the sense & self-awareness to recognize it. I still don't understand peoples' frustration and confusion over these comparisons. There are differences between American and Japanese baseball styles. It's not a coincidence that Fukudome's stance/follow-through has some similarities to Ichiro's. Frankly, it's interesting to see Japanese stars coming over and seeing what they "translate" into, in american baseball results.
