  1. They're looking at every possibility, including putting Jock there. Nothing is firm yet as trades take a lot more work than do free-agent signings. Ryan Church and Gabe Gross would be ideal candidates.
  2. Bruce, have you ever considered writing a blog from the Winter Meetings? If Bruce were interested, is there some way to set up a Winter Meetings thread in which only Bruce could post?
  3. Do you want to part with Don Veal? Veal for Hall? Done.
  4. I'm sure Hendry would like to trade for Aaron Heilman.
  5. I think it's clear that the answer to the thread title is "NO".
  6. It seems fairly obvious to me that he's counting the 14 players already under contract, plus Zambrano and Prior, the two arb-eligibles who are going to make "real money".
  7. A textbook example of an unnecessary dependent clause.
  8. Sign Lugo, trade Izturis and pieces parts to Boston for Crisp.
  9. Couldn't disagree more. Hill could be a Cy Young candidate, but he could completely fall apart. Right now, Prior and Miller constitute essentially nothing. Prior could be great, but he could also never be heard from again. Miller could improve to decent status, but he could be Estesish. I like Marshall, but he shouldn't be opening the year in the rotation of a team which supposedly has championship hopes. Schmidt, then Westbrook or Jennings. Lilly isn't a favorite of mine, but he wouldn't hurt my feelings. Meche would offend my delicate sensibilities.
  10. It would be nice to get him for three years guaranteed, with a fourth year kicking in if he pitches a certain number (370 or so?) of innings in the last two of the three years.
  11. We get a sammich pick between the end of the first round and the start of the second round.
  12. Floyd has been frustrated with his many injuries - even to the point of pondering retirement. He might enjoy a part-time role on a (ha!) contender.
  13. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/transactions
  14. I suppose he'd probably retire rather than accept a bench job at bench pay, but a guy I wouldn't mind bringing back as an extra outfielder is Jeromy Burnitz. It would be nice to have a few guys capable of getting a late game HR or extra base hit in a pinch hitting role.
  15. Alfonso Soriano is your RF.
  16. Detroit has that Sheffield guy to DH.
  17. The only aspects of lineup construction that I care about are: 1) Bunching your good hitters together. 2) Putting your good hitters high in the batting order so they get the most opportunities. 3) While honoring numbers 1&2, arranging your lineup with alternating RHH and LHH.
  18. Bruce, is there anything to this Lugo in CF business? What about Lugo elsewhere?
  19. Two of: Westbrook, Jennings, Heilman. I doubt they have the trade chips to pull that off, though.
  20. My guess is: They don't want to burden Soriano with learning a difficult, key defensive position. They want to put him somewhere where he will be able to stay for most, if not all, of his contract. They want to keep Matt Murton.
  21. Our very own Mr. Miles is reporting that Soriano will play RF, with Jacque possibly moving to CF.
  22. I would be willing to guess that more than half of walks drawn by power hitters are "intentional unintentional". The key is to be willing to accept them.
