    Assuming $14 for Aramis in 2007, $4.0 for DeRosa in 2007, $2.5 for Hank in 2007, one kid in the starting lineup, one kid on the bench, one kid in the rotation, and two kids in the bullpen, I show $31.3 left out of a $115 payroll.

    I can't imagine Ramirez counts. Imagine this scenario: The arb deadline rolls around and Aramis still hasn't signed anywhere. The Cubs offer him arb and he accepts. According to the old CBA, the Cubs signing "free agent" Ramirez in that way would not count against their quota. Regardless, someone brings this up every offseason and it never, ever comes into play. This is incorrect. Here's the language directly from the old CBA: The Club shall be deemed not to have signed a free agent for purposes of paragraph (5) of this Section B when a Player accepts salary arbitration pursuant to this paragraph (3). CFP, thanks, but I've read the applicable passages of the CBA. I've bolded the passage I was referring to in my hypothetical. If a team signs one of its own free agents via the arb process, that signing doesn't count against the quota. If that doesn't count, I don't see why a non-arb agreement would. It could, but it would be altogether nonsensical (of course, I wouldn't put nonsense past MLB).

    Not to Thread steal but I am impressed B. To own a home right now in San Diego is a major accomplishment. Congrats and I am tremedously jealous. My wife and I can't afford one here in the San Jacinto valley much less SD. My biggest desire in life right now is to own a home. Congrats on being an uncle too! Well, there's "owning" and then there's "owning".

Here's a more detailed analysis: Suppose DeRosa's: BABIP drops to .300 Spread of singles-doubles-triples-homeruns remains the same K/AB ratio remains the same BB/AB ratio remains the same His line will drop from .296/.357/.456/.813 to .257/.321/.395/.715

    Goodness gracious. Do you realize how bad Pagan is? Obviously not. That said, I'd be quite pleased with either Drew or Soriano. If The Awful Hendry hadn't taken on Izturis' money, we might be able to squeeze them both in.
