  1. That's a shame. He would have been an excellent addition to shore up our woeful bullpen.
  2. Cedeno is out of options and would almost certainly be claimed if you tried to send him down. Are you sure? He was never optioned in 2006. My source: http://thecubreporter.com/cubs-40-man-roster
  3. "Reineke?!? Reineke?!? He still owes me money!"
  4. As I understand it, Drayton McLane needs to conduct some impact testing of the concrete columns out in left field. An analysis reveals that trading for and paying Wolf is cheaper than hiring a contractor.
  5. Cedeno is out of options and would almost certainly be claimed if you tried to send him down.
  6. Didn't Blake fall apart late in last year's ALCS? Do we really want anybody with that kind of Cub-karma?
  7. 6) Get Kosuke back on track.
  8. Why not? $10 is pretty much average money for a quality, veteran starting pitcher nowadays. If we know anything about Jim Hendry, it's that he doesn't want to come up short on pitching depth. There's no way that a high-payroll supposed championship contender is going to have Jeff Samardzija or Donnie Veal anywhere near its starting rotation at the start of 2009. And I say that as someone who really likes Samardzija and doesn't hate Veal.
  9. I will be shocked - shocked, I say! - if Ryan Dempster is not a Chicago Cub in 2009.
  10. I don't understand this position. If anything, we need help from the right side. Wood has been great, but he has a blister right now. Plus, he's still Kerry Wood. Who's to say that he won't break down? Right now, Marmol is one of the worst pitchers in baseball. Howry is Howry. Wuertz has been sent down in favor of Kevin Hart. Let's reflect for a moment on the magnitude of that sentence. Lieber has entered witness protection.
  11. The reason I ask is that, when Eyre comes back, the Cubs will have 14 pitchers. Marshall can be optioned, but that still leaves 13. I was trying to figure out if any of the "bubble" type guys can be freely optioned. Wuertz or Cotts are the only possibilities, but I'm not sure either can be sent down without being exposed to waivers.
  12. I don't want to start a new thread to ask this question. Is Neal Cotts freely optionable, or does he need to pass through some sort of waivers?
  13. The odd thing about Maddux's 2008 stat line is that he's given up more HR at home than on the road. Regardless, for some strange reason, he's been unbelievably hard to hit overall at Petco so far this season. Does Petco suppress hits in general that much, or is this more likely just a fluke?
  14. Has the fact that Gary Hughes was at Petco Park watching Maddux pitch last night been discussed anywhere? Is this true, or are you doing a bit?
  15. Randy Wolf, stay away. The Cubs should only trade for a pitcher if he's actually an improvement over what they already have. Agreed, but I'm afraid we're all going to be massively disappointed.
  16. MLB's worst player development organization.
  17. Assuming that we wind up in the postseason... Unless Lou goes completely insane, we will need a fourth starter.

  19. Maddux would be a worthwhile acquisition if you used him to replace Marquis rather than Gallagher.
  20. In the highly unlikely event that they are able to land an "impact" starting pitcher, I could see them also trying to add a strike-throwing starting pitcher. Someone along the lines of Paul Byrd. Possibly after the trade deadline, but certainly before the deadline for adding players to a postseason roster. I believe that there is essentially zero chance that Lou is going to let Jason Marquis throw an important postseason pitch.
  21. Venezuelan for "Wade Miller".
  22. Gallagher, no. Vitters, yes.
