Unless cash is exchanged, the Jays basically go from a 3/$35.25m contract to a 3/$33m contract. Glaus also has his share of injury issues. I could see a prospect going from the Cardinals to the Jays if this goes down, though. How do you get 3/$35.25? The player option is for 2009, not 2010.
Dude, I don't want him either, but he got a minor league deal with an invite. Pardon my french, but BFD. Obviously a precursor to Wuertz going to the Yankees for Melky...
The first clue that the Orioles' organization is a joke was that they actually hired Andy MacPhail to a position of responsibility in their baseball operations.
Speaking of OPS+, is there any site where OPS+ is calculated not relative to the overall league average, but to league average by position? That would seem to be much more meaningful.
yeah, but you watched him "tight-rope" in the games last season right? what makes you think that is going to be any easier to watch if he takes the mound in the 1st? it will be a disaster...probably on par or worse than wade miller... just say no to dempster in any situation...lets trade him if possible Reading comprehension is a good thing.
The Cubs looking to trade for Melky Cabrera so they can play him instead of Felix Pie? Exhibit 8,182,735,687,262,810,172,302,370 for the case of "Why the Chicago Cubs are MLB's worst franchise". Brutal.
I'm completely against the idea of Dempster as a starting pitcher, but using his career numbers as a starter isn't altogether fair to him. He pitched a lot of those innings with his arm in bad shape.
"One caveat: I've moved past threesomes. I'm now into foursomes. If someone backs out, then you've still got a threesome. If two people back out, you're still having sex." - Dr. Gregory House Seems to apply to Backtobanks, also.
I think it makes a difference when they've shown to be credible sources of information before. Credible? They called the Tejada trade before it was done but after it was in every paper this side of the Weekly World News. I think some of you are having your chain yanked. What are you talking about? The Weekly World News claimed that Tejada had been traded for Bat Boy.
Part of the reason that people remember "the Lofton era" fondly is that he played pretty well in that postseason. Kenny Lofton has always been what the traditionalists would call "a tough out". That's a very desirable quality in the postseason, when you don't see very much poor pitching. One couldn't really use that term to describe Corey Patterson, even when he was going well.
yucky Cal, any idea what the league average line was? Bad. Approximately .244/.317/.370 (regular season only). If you include the playoffs, Felix is now at .252/.313/.381. Do pitchers hit down there? No, they have a DH. In that case, I don't see any reason to get all wound up about what is essentially a league average performance. Especially since it appeared as though he got better as the season wore on (didn't he?). Pie is fine. Make him the primary CF. Get a RHH CF so he can face only the LHP you want him to. Don't even think about "pulling the plug" on him until the All-Star break. Bat him #7. If he hits well for an extended period, consider moving him up to #6 ahead of Soto.
Hart would be a good choice, since Ascanio may be MLB-ready in the bullpen and they may wish to carry Lahey back there, too. Don't forget about Marshall.

are you serious? why? There's no reason anyone associated with the Chicago Cubs should ever think in terms of "our window is closing". The Cubs have enough resources to have a perpetually open window.
