  1. Baseball Prospectus is clearly a ridiculous collection of dumbbells. 94 wins? Get real.
  2. Did anyone notice that the Cubs misspelled "Let's Play Two" as "Lets Play Two" on the statue? Is there any lingering doubt that the Chicago Cubs organization is MLB's worst and among the very worst organizations of any type on the face of the planet?
  3. Well, that's not our job. It's Hendry's, and he's horrible at it.
  4. Good grief !! Is there a bowling alley left anywhere that doesn't have mechanical pin setters ?? Seinfeld reference.
  5. Derrek Lee is cooked. An old man before his time. Bring up Hoffpauir! Theriot leading off?!? You have GOT to be kidding. No chance against Sheets. 5-0 shutout. 0-162, here we come! Fukudome sucks! $48 million for THIS? Brutal. Jim Hendry? MLB's worst GM! Better qualified to be setting pins in a bowling alley. Ahhhhhhhh, I love opening day!
  6. While Hendry is MLB's worst GM, we should probably be fair to him and acknowledge the possibility that The Sweater Vest Kid prohibited him from making the sort of commitment needed to sign those guys.
  7. Soriano at 2b is nearly as unlikely as Marmol at C. Soriano played one inning at 2B last season.
  8. The Cubs want Brian Roberts because he is a good baseball player who is available on the trade market for what our GM has deemed to be expendable assets.
  9. Felix Pie is going to be great. Trading for Coco Crisp is the worst thing the Cubs could do for his development. Conclusion: The Cubs will trade for Coco Crisp.
  10. Scott Adams had Andy MacPhail in mind when he created the concept of "The Dilbert Principle".
  11. It might be helpful to look at a 4-1 in this context. First, unless Hendry does something dumb, like signing Roberts to an extension, the Cubs are going to reap two fairly high draft choices for Roberts when he departs as a free agent. Those are draft choices that the Orioles won't get. It seems fair to "replace" those for the Orioles. That's two players. We can debate how valuable those guys should be. Then, you're down to how much is two years of Roberts worth. Two players seems reasonable. Again, we can debate how valuable those two guys ought to be.
  12. The downfall of the 2008 Cubs, of course.
  13. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/03/soriano-out-wit.html
  14. Peter Gammons: The Cubs may lust for Brian Roberts as the perfect part, but they won't put right-hander Jose Ceda or outfielder Felix Pie in the deal, so Roberts is going to stay in Baltimore. For now. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=gammons_peter
  15. Bruce Miles said earlier in this thread that the Cubs aren't really interested In crisp and that they don't see him as an upgrade. I'd very much believe Miles over Levine. A large part of Mr. Miles' point was that the Cubs don't like Crisp's contract. If you can move Marquis in the process, that becomes largely irrelevant. Not really. I believe his exact words were "they judt don't see him as an upgrade".

  17. "Hey, man! It's the greatest - they pay you a ton of dough and losing is completely tolerated."
  18. Strikeout rate. I'm not pessimistic, just cautious with my optimism.
