  1. I don't think it's fair to pencil the Cubs in for last place yet.
  2. No way it's equivalent, Houston gave up less talent. Maybe something like this, in terms of current and former Cubs: Matt Murton is close in value to Luke Scott (I consider Scott to be the better player, but he's older) David Aardsma is a fair comparison to Dennis Sarfate Scott Moore is a fair comparison to Michael Costanzo Sean Gallagher/Sean Marshall are close in value to Troy Patton (Marshall has had MLB success, but also has more service time) Ricky Nolasco is close in value to Matt Albers (I consider Nolasco to be more valuable) Murton, Aardsma, Moore, Gallagher/Marshall, Nolasco
  3. Pitching for RumDum? Uh, no.
  4. Murton really has value. I wish he would play here, but I get why they are dealing him. He'll likely be part of the package that lands Hendry Brian Roberts. This seems less likely with the Orioles' acquisition of Luke Scott.
  5. http://www.pantagraph.com/content/articles/2007/07/19/sportsextra/doc469fe5ac6b57f677190848.jpg At this point in his career, Cesar Izturis is a better offensive player than he is a defensive player. Let us pause momentarily to consider the magnitude of this statement.
  6. Bourn and Matsui will flip spots. Wigginton is a pretty good #7 hitter, but a poor 3B defender. Towles will get a lot of time behind the plate (most of it if Cooper is smart).
  7. That looks like a pretty solid core to me. I think the Stros stay in it at least for awhile in '08. Not saying they'll win it. Astros #2 and #3 starters - Wandy Rodriguez and Woody Williams.
  8. "Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much." - George Costanza
  9. I'm sorry to hear that. Are there treatments available?
  10. Ed Wade is a horrible, horrible GM. I literally cannot believe he made that trade. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Wade is murdered by an Astros fan in the next few days.
  11. I watch about, 60-80 Jays games a year, he won't ever be healthy. Therefore; I want Burnett about as much as I want Gonorrhea. How do you feel about cirrhosis of the liver with jaundice? Nice. Seinfeld reference right? "Why did I look for love...in a bottle?"
  12. I believe the right move is to tender him to give you more time to trade him. If he's non-tendered, there's likely going to be so much interest in him that he won't have to settle for a sub-arb contract.
  13. There certainly is a lot of smoke to the idea that Piniella wants Jason Marquis gone.
  14. I watch about, 60-80 Jays games a year, he won't ever be healthy. Therefore; I want Burnett about as much as I want Gonorrhea. How do you feel about cirrhosis of the liver with jaundice?
  15. Why don't we slip that Ted Lilly character into the 5th spot? I hear he's not too terribly bad.
  16. If you were able to pitch a healthy A.J. Burnett in the 3rd or 4th game of a playoff series, that would, in theory, give you a huge advantage.
  17. Manager Lou Piniella, who called Fukudome a cross between Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui, said last week he expected to bat the new Cub fourth or fifth in the order.
  18. OK, seriously, somebody pinch me. Looks like Bruce is fabricating quotes now. Is that ethical?
  19. Sig worthy!! It's kind of a catch-all, isn't it?
  20. I believe that Hendry will ultimately fumble this away at the goal line. The Padres might even wind up getting him. But I find it extremely hard to believe that the Padres will give Kosuke Fukudome a contract with a larger total value than Jake Peavy's recent extension (even if the AAV is less).
  21. The best part of clicking that link was stumbling across the poster named "chan ho's korean temper".
