  1. The padres also made an offer to Bradley and they offered arbitration to Cameron. If Bradley signs and Cameron accepts arbitration they could be out on Fukudome. With that being said is very unlikely that Cameron will take arbitration. He can catch a multiyear deal somewhere else. He already declined it.
  2. Wait a minute! Are you suggesting that actually being healthy enough to take the field is valuable? Shocking!
  3. I like how he refers to coming to MLB as "the challenge", but I hope he doesn't consider proving himself an able centerfielder as a challenge and, in turn, prioritize those teams which would use him as one. Kosuke, please heed the words of the great American philosopher Harry Callahan: "A man's got to know his limitations."
  4. Kosuke: "Joe, I think I'm going to stay here. I'd miss my family too much. I hope you're not angry." Urbon: "Of course not, son. I'm here to do what you want. I'm your agent. That's my job." Kosuke: "Thanks. Thanks a lot." Urbon: "Would you like to see the offers, just for fun?" Kosuke: "Sure, why not?" Urbon (lays them out on the table): "Here. Take a look." Kosuke: "Holy Shinola! The Cubs offered HOW MUCH? Where do I sign?"
  5. Even though he's largely dismissed on this board, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Sam Fuld could be the outfielder.
  6. Roberts over Ethier 95 times out of 100.
  7. If the source for the Tejada to the Stros deal being done is the Cubs.com boards, I wouldn't get too worried yet. Who's worried? I hope they trade some young pitching for a $13 million man in decline who is currently a below average defender at his position. Let them try to outscore us in a Rich Hill - Woody Williams matchup. I want the deal to get done so Andy can get on with the business of trading Roberts to us. I'm only worried that it's NOT true.
  8. Oneri Fleita and Khalil Greene both attended Key West (FL) High School. As did yours truly. Let's reunite a couple of Bubbas in the Cubs organization!
  9. Greene is absolutely destoyed by playing at Petco. It is the best pitcher's park in MLB by a huge, huge margin. Away from home, he's a solid .800+ guy. Greene would be an excellent #6 hitter for us. That would allow you to hit Soto 7th - much less pressure. It would cause me a lot of gastrointestinal distress to trade Pie, but, with Colvin in the system, I would probably do it for Greene.
  10. Where did you hear this? I don't remember hearing this rumor. This is the source of the Pie-Greene business: The Padres were rebuffed when they asked about Cubs center fielder Felix Pie in May – talks that, had they progressed, likely would have included shortstop Khalil Greene. http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20071104/news_1s4padres.html
  11. I wonder if the Astros would take back a bad contract in return. Payton, Huff, Hernandez.
  12. I'll bet the Astros are going to acquire Dontrelle Willis.
  13. It would be very, very helpful if Roberts himself called Angelos and told him that he doesn't really want to be part of a rebuilding effort and that he'd be grateful if Angelos would approve the trade.
  14. Am I thinking of a different Brian Roberts? That's awfully steep. Done without a second thought. murton's four years younger than roberts and has better career offensive numbers. obviously they don't play the same positiong, but including murton in a deal for roberts is too much...let alone topping him off with three other decent trading chips. if the cubs had a glaring hole at 2b, maybe i'd think differently. I hope this doesn't offend you...try not to be absurd.
  15. Am I thinking of a different Brian Roberts? That's awfully steep. Done without a second thought.
  16. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baseball/bal-roberts1205,0,2777882.story http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baseball/bal-sp.meetings05dec05,0,1809981.story Any chance they might want Dempster (closer) and Gallagher/Marshall (starter) and maybe one of Murton/EPatt/Fox? That could help the Cubs payroll out a bit too! It's possible they could have interest in Dempster, but the Cubs would likely have to take a salary back in the deal (Payton).
  17. If you can get Roberts for that trio, you do it without a second thought.
  18. Amy Nelson >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Steve Phillips
  19. No Rich Hill. No Carlos Marmol. No Felix Pie. No Tyler Colvin. Their choice of Matt Murton or Eric Patterson Their choice of Sean Marshall or Sean Gallagher Their choice of Billy Petrick or Rocky Roquet Their choice of Ryan Harvey or Mark Pawelek If I were MacPhail, I'd take Murton, Gallagher, Roquet, and Pawelek.
  20. It's no secret that MacPhail believes that an organization should be built first and foremost around pitching. The first player has to be Gallagher. I'd be willing to bet that the second player is a pitcher also. Petrick, Roquet, Ceda, Veal.
  21. No offense to the Gallagher family, but Sean is not the kind of player you let get in the way of acquiring Brian Roberts.
  22. I really wish I could believe you were joking. This is why the Patriots have to be stopped, by whatever means necessary. This calls for extreme measures. Dent-McMichael-Perry-Hampton Marshall-Singletary-Wilson Richardson-Fencik-Duerson-Frazier I'm sorry, Mr. Brady, but it had to be done.
  23. Not yet. I'll find out by 5:30 when we meet with Jim. I've put in calls about the White Sox on this matter, too. The Tigers gave them a little ouchie yesterday. Speaking of your 5:30 meeting with Jim, isn't it about time for the obligatory yearly announcement that Hendry has postponed his scheduled meeting with the media, leading to rampant speculation? That's always one of my favorite December traditions. Excellent tradition. What was the reasoning for the last postponment? Gastrointestinal distress?
