  1. He was an Oriole who has temporarily migrated from Baltimore to Chicago. So, yes, that's exactly what he is.
  2. The following pitchers may not be optioned. Arrieta, Jake Chafin, Andrew Davies, Zach Fenter, Gray Hendricks, Kyle Kimbrel, Craig Maples, Dillon Mills, Alec Underwood, Duane Jr. Winkler, Dan Workman, Brandon The following pitchers may be optioned. Abbott, Cory Adam, Jason Holder, Jonathan Marquez, Brailyn Miller, Tyson Norwood, James Rodriguez, Manuel Ryan, Kyle Steele, Justin Stewart, Kohl Stock, Robert Thompson, Keegan Wick, Rowan Wieck, Brad Williams, Trevor According to Arizona Phil, Alzolay's status is TBD. I think he is most likely to be optionable for 2021.
  3. Last year, they capped the number of pitchers on a roster at thirteen. Are they going to do that again?
  4. One problem with the likes of Jeffress and Tepera is that neither of them is optionable. The bullpen is going to have at least three non-optionables - Kimbrel, Chafin, and, assuming he doesn't implode, Winkler. If he's healthy and pitching well, Wick will be high enough on the food chain to where they probably won't be optioning him even though he does have options remaining. Hard to know what they think of Underwood, but they've kept him around for a long time. If they carry him, he can't be optioned. Nor could Fenter in the unlikely event they carried him under Rule 5. If they sign Jeffress or Tepera or another non-optionable, that'll be 5-7 of the 8 spots that are locked in. That assumes that one of the eight bullpen spots doesn't go to a sixth starter. Let's hope they have the guts to rotate Williams and Alzolay in and out of the rotation via option.
  5. A walk rate like that would make Dillon Maples seem like Bob Tewksbury! Per 9 IP...
  6. Chafin will join Kimbrel and Winkler as bullpen "locks" who cannot be optioned. Assuming that the Cubs don't carry either Fenter, Maples, or Underwood (all also not optionable), that leaves 5 of 8 bullpen spots to be filled by optionable guys, such as: Adam Holder Norwood Ryan Stewart Stock Wick Wieck Even though Wick is optionable, I don't see him getting yoyo-ed. Still, could be a lot of traffic on the Iowa shuttle this year.
  7. Unlikely that they carry eight wide receivers.
  8. https://www.mlb.com/cubs/news/addison-russell-recalled-ben-zobrist-on-leave
  9. A limited stuff reliever who could pitch a clean 6th or 7th would be very much welcomed.
  10. Alabama 101, Oklahoma 6
  11. Jim Adduci is back? All is right with the world!
  12. Brendon Little.
  13. This is 54. Somebody else is going to have to go.
  14. Game 3 - Warriors 133, Rockets 91
  15. Shouldn't the Browns take Barkley #1 and then take whatever QB is left at #4? Is there really anything that meaningfully separates these top 4 QBs? None of these guys is Peyton Manning.
  16. I'm almost 100% certain that this is not true. The Cubs can option them freely, but, if the Cubs remove them from the 40-man roster and attempt to send them to the minor leagues "outright", then they can elect free agency. If this comes to pass, they will have proven themselves not good enough to worry about.
  17. Tommy is out of options.
  18. That would mean for luxury tax calculations for the next two years, it would put the Cubs at $30M each year. Unless I'm mistaken, LT is calculated as the AAV of each segment until an opt-out. So I don't think the Cubs want to give him $30M a year for the first two, as that would put them over the cap. But it might be AAV of $25M guaranteed for 2 or 3 years, before it drops significantly. I don’t think that’s how it works at all I don't think so, either. What you have to keep in mind is that the club is guaranteeing to pay the player the entirety of the deal. That, I believe, is the basis of the luxury tax calculation.
  19. If Alzolay is our best pitching prospect, we're doomed. Guy looks like a reliever. Strop-ish. There's nothing wrong with that, but as your top guy? Ouch.
  20. I'm not sure how I feel about Britton in particular, but, if you're going to trade prospects for a free agent to be, the offseason is the time to do it so you can offer a QO and collect the draft choice to partially offset the acquisition cost.
  21. It's not necessarily them killing it because they don't want to go to the new club. It's them requiring some enhancement to waive the NTC and that enhancement being something that one of the clubs cannot abide, thus killing the trade.
  22. No. He has 10 days to decide to accept the QO or not. Can get no offers before then. Why can't he get an offer before then?
  23. Yes.
  24. Odor hit 30 home runs with a slugging percentage below .400. That's got to be hard to do. I wonder how many times that's been done in the history of MLB.
  25. Obviously a tremendously small sample size, but Alzolay looks like a reliever.
