  1. Lucas Patrick was destined to be a Chicago Bear. https://www.nfl.com/news/clay-matthews-suffers-broken-nose-in-softball-game-0ap3000000935442 A charity softball game took a serious turn Saturday when Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews took a line drive to the face. Matthews, who was pitching to Packers offensive lineman Lucas Patrick in the Green & Gold Charity Softball Game, was slow to react to the ball, which Patrick hit directly back to him. As seen in the above video, Matthews didn't have time to deflect the ball, which appeared to strike him in the nose.
  2. Jonathan Villar and Marwin Gonzalez would be your choices here.
  3. Build through the draft, yes, but we need to put in an infrastructure that will enhance Fields' development. Protect him, give him weapons, and install a system that favors him. If, to accomplish that, the OL and skill positions (OL especially) have to be built with "old guys", so be it.
  4. Depending on how the draft falls out, how would we feel if the Bears went WR with both second rounders?
  5. Signing a quality veteran center would be one of the best moves for the future of this franchise. Not only because Mustipher is bad, but it would indicate that the new leadership team understands that he's bad. That would simply be huge.
  6. All hail the GDOAT! Greatest douchebag of all time.
  7. In addition to acquiring the draft capital, I think they wanted to open an "every down" spot for Trevis Gipson.
  8. The one good point that Coach Eberflus made is that a defensive coordinator schemes against offenses. Seems obvious, but it's not talked about much. A defensive-minded head coach can support an offensive coordinator in that way, as opposed to an offensive-minded head coach possibly just echoing the same ideas.
  9. There aren't many games where Patrick Mahomes is "the weak-armed guy".
  10. Remember the scene in "War Games" where "Joshua" the supercomputer goes through the process of learning that tic-tac-toe (and, by extension, nuclear war) is a no-win proposition? I'm reminded of that scene - but the opposite - when I watch Matt Nagy coach. He is actively getting dumber before our very eyes with each hour, minute, second that elapses.
  11. 1:11 into the first quarter and NumbNuts has to call a timeout.
  12. I'll take Kiermaier and his contract if they give us Taylor Walls.
  13. Connor Menez will get a 4th minor league option in 2022 if he is added to the 40 at some point next season. It has to be used in 2022, however, so it won't be available in 2023 if it isn't used in 2022. - Arizona Phil
  14. Vogelbach sucks. No offense to him personally. Just put Alfonso Rivas into spots where he can be successful.
  15. You still like Howard. Performance doesn't matter if you have pedigree. Pay attention.
  16. The way to appeal to Correa is to enthusiastically offer him an opt out, with the contract front loaded in his favor. If other teams decline to do that, so much the better. $280/8. 40-40-40-opt out-32-32-32-32-32 Massage the numbers as you see fit. If you get him in the door and he indicates a desire to opt out, you have an opportunity to retain him.
  17. I wonder if any other pitcher in MLB history pitched his second highest seasonal IP total in his age 41 season. Such a fun guy to follow.
  18. Volume of innings out of the starters. Some sort of diversity in pitch type, approach, velocity within the rotation, to whatever degree is reasonably possible. Power arms and strikeout stuff in the bullpen. Home run avoidance in general.
  19. A couple of minor corrections, one meaningful, one not so much. Frazier is optionable. Davis isn't on the roster yet.
  20. That would be the "no c o c k out lockout".
  21. Bravo.
  22. The worst organization in professional sports.
  23. Tim, how many slots on a 13-man staff do you imagine they will want to leave open for "optionable" pitchers? Two? Three? That will kind of help identify how many "salaried" free agents they might target. Right now, there are five "unoptionable" pitchers on the 40-man roster and two others who have options who, barring unexpected poor performance, you won't likely choose to option. Alzolay Hendricks Miley Mills Wieck (kind of an odd case, because he's not so good that you couldn't DFA him in-season in a roster crunch situation) Heuer Wick That would be 7/13. If you set two spots aside for "optionables", you could sign four "salaried" free agents (maybe two starters and two relievers). If you moved Mills because he doesn't fit what you're trying to do, that would add one more spot for either a youngster with options or another veteran FA. Wieck would possibly be another one, depending on what you wanted to do with him.
