  1. I'm very bullish on Marquez, to the point where I think he's a possibility to be the first/primary SP. Part of that is the salary though, his post-trade LT number is north of 15 million and unless they trade for someone like a Lopez they'd be betting a lot of money on SP. Also, to your later point, Marquez isn't a clean fit in a bullpen role if he falters or others surpassed him, which is I think the answer to how you address that second SP. They need to either be cheap enough to move on from and/or be a good fit for a bullpen role if others outpitch them. Did something change in the CBA? It didn't used to work that way.
  2. '70s football was great. Not for the Bears, but in general.
  3. #1 sleeper in the organization. How’s his defense? Excellent. A super athletic guy. This is not a "square peg in a round hole" situation.
  4. To borrow a bit from George Carlin, "My High-A affiliate has a bigger dick than your High-A affiliate".
  5. #1 sleeper in the organization.
  6. Craig, Gallardo's a piker. Matt Swarmer gave up 36 in 2019.
  7. For fun, I looked up if an Eberflus defense had ever faced Rodgers. Sure enough, in November 2020. In Indy. They gave up 31 points, but did intercept Rodgers once and recovered two fumbles. The Colts won 34-31 in OT.
  8. One thing to keep in mind when thinking about adding guys to the 40-man roster is that there can be no more than 14 guys on optional assignment or a non-60-day IL at any one time. True - but that doesn't matter in the offseason. During the year I was thinking of it more from the point of view of adding an extra starter with MLB experience through FA or trade to have more certainty in that rotation spot. If you still view Steele as an unknown as a full-load starter, then there's really only Stroman that we can count on in that fashion. Basically, I'm wondering if we should swap out Hendricks for someone with more certainty. But dropping him at the beginning of the offseason also allows us to add another player to the roster for now that could be used in trades during the remainder of the offseason. It does matter if the idea is to use the spot for a guy that will have zero chance of contributing at the big league level, like Kohl Franklin. You can realistically only have so many such guys on the 40-man roster.

  10. Why is it going to take MORE than PCA to acquire a guy with only one year of control remaining? This isn't Ohtani we're talking about.
  11. The Eberflus administration seems to have a fetish for tall cornerbacks. I can't see any other reason to prioritize Lamar Jackson over Thomas Graham.
  12. I'd even say he's worth trading a vaunted OF prospect for. LHH flyball hitting CF with 24 HRs this year, top defense, pre-arb next year...terrific fit and probably not crazy different from the player Crow-Armstrong can be + offer an emergency catcher. League average OBP from a CF is .305, Cubs at .303 I want to be active in FA, just am not sure they need to obligate themselves to a $30 million dollar SS for the sake of spending the money. I do think the team’s best off moving Hoerner to 2B, really like Swanson’s fit and flip flop on Correa, but am not sure that’s absolutely necessary to get a very good 2023 team with room to grow I don’t know about this unavailable thing in 2020s MLB. They're 6(!!) LHHs deep at the position: Varsho, Carroll, Thomas, McCarthy, Smith, and Fletcher in AAA. Beer’s another younger LHH with some OF experience…I wonder how far Steele, Wesneski, and Canario can get? Good horsefeathering grief. Are you on dope?
  13. Joey Bosa is a problem He definitely is, but he's not playing in this game.
  14. Most likely, he's a fringe prospect. Of Tom's three fetishes, I wholeheartedly support Howard, I definitely understand Hearn, but I don't get Gallardo.
  15. Please be age 24-33 Jim Thome. Satan, you may have my soul if you make this so.
  16. Always bet against the Chargers. Always.
  17. Maybe Coulter (or Webster) gets moved to the 53. That would make room for ZThomas on the PS.
  18. Shelley, Thomas, and Tonga cut. That's two more Pace guys gone.
  19. So, who are the likely candidates to get dropped for the new additions? OL Alex Leatherwood - Carter or Thomas DT Armani Watts - Pennel DB Josh Blackwell - Jackson, Jones, or Shelley DE Kingsley Johnathan - no real obvious candidate LB Sterling Weatherford - Johnson or Sanborn TE Trevin Wesco - Tonges
  20. If the Bears play Mustipher/Patrick at C/RG in any combination, that will be proof positive that Jenkins fucked Mrs. Eberflus.
  21. While he's still got a chance to be useful, Herz has always been fool's gold to some degree. Those that ranked him above Wicks were simply delusional.
  22. https://www.chicagobears.com/news/roster-moves-bears-reach-nfl-s-53-man-roster-limit
  23. Any rating that shows Mustipher with zero pressures must be discarded.
  24. Are we thinking he comes up next week when rosters expand? Adbert replacing Farrell and Estrada getting the open spot seems to be the most reasonable path forward, especially since it seems like the org really doesn't want to call up Kilian. Maybe, but that would require opening two more 40-man spots. DFA Farrell and Miley to the 60-day?
