  1. Last year's draft is going to be among the worst in Cubs history. It's really inexplicable. lol "Irresponsible hot take"
  2. Actually, he still has the option to refuse to accept the outright assignment and declare free agency.
  3. 6'0", 115 lb? Has he been diagnosed with AIDS while simultaneously being held as a prisoner of war?
  4. Counterpoint: His actual nickname is "Mash" We need to make the "Mash" moniker go away. "Never Nervous" Matt Mervis The guy you want up in the biggest of big moments.
  5. That belongs in the Tweet Hall of Fame.
  6. Lovie ain't gonna be there. A good FU parting gift to an organization about to fire him after a single season. The Houston Texans is the worst organization in the NFL, by far. And, quite possibly, the worst organization in professional sports.

Is there a more despicable and evil entity in the history of human civilization than Tom Brady? He must be destroyed.
  11. $18 million under.
  12. Two years. Kind of surprising. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/cubs-drew-smyly-agree-to-two-year-deal.html
  13. One other thing to consider is the major league IL. If a big leaguer is on the IL and replaced by a minor leaguer, you're paying an extra $800k. I thought the tax took into account the 40 man, wouldn’t that amount just be prorated for the time on the roster? A relative pittance One of the salary tracking websites figures that, based on historical data, you will need an equivalent of 33 "full time equivalents" due to IL time (10, 15, and 60) on the 26-man roster over the course of the season. The delta of (33-26) is priced at the major league minimum.

  15. Yeah I got $56m from Sportrac which has their estimated luxury tax number at $176.8m compared to the $233m luxury tax threshold. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/chicago-cubs/payroll/ To answer your first reply, how do you see $56m vanishing quickly without Swanson? Yeah Fangraphs has right around 55 too, I guess the disconnect that I can see is they have 14 million for pre-arb contracts(not including 40-man minor leaguers) and I'm not sure how they come to that considering they have 7 players in that bucket. Even doubling it for the likelihood of Estrada, Wesneski, Mastrobuoni, etc being major leaguers, there's only so many slots considering those minor leaguers + guaranteed + arb salaries. One other thing to consider is the major league IL. If a big leaguer is on the IL and replaced by a minor leaguer, you're paying an extra $800k.
  16. Considerably less than that. I've got right around $56. Without Swanson, I can see another $10-ish position player beyond that (Drury?).
  17. Considerably less than that. I've got right around $56.
  18. Even without Swanson, that $56 is going to vanish pretty quickly.
  19. Watching the Astros win isn't fun at all. Against the Yankees, yes it is. That said, I'd prefer it were the Guardians or Mariners that humiliate the Yankees.
  20. It'll be quite fun to watch the Yankees get destroyed by the Astros yet again.
  21. Why would the Red Sox give Swanson more than they were reportedly willing to give franchise icon Bogaerts?
  22. Only one year of control for Devers.
  23. Based on their unwillingness to spend, I can't see them moving their top prospects who they're going to almost entirely depend on to make the team relevant in the next few years. Oh I don’t think they’d make the move, more just wondering what a hypothetical trade would look like. I think that’s in the ballpark for 2 more years of control of a 26 year old Devers. Only one more year of control.
  24. Play Morel at 2B every day to start the season. If Madrigal shows up with a reworked body and performs in the minor leagues, then you can perhaps readjust depending on how Morel is doing.
