  1. So then you can have two offensively challenged players on the court at the same time? I realize that Oden isn't as bad as Wallace but he's been built up much more for his defensive ability than offensive. Oden definately needs to put in a ton of work in that part of his game. Not saying that Oden can't play offense and will never be good offensively, but he does need to show a huge improvement to be a star in the NBA. If you're lucky enough to draft the best big man of his generation, you play him. Having an all-star center on the roster to take some pressure off the kid will only help. It would be an outstanding problem to have.
  2. Not quite, the Bulls get $8M in cap space next offseason if they trade Tyson for Brown, about half the cap space they started with this offseason. Sam Smith reported Wallace's deal is frontloaded (starting at $17 million in the first year of the deal and steadily decreasing to about $12 million in the last year). In that case, at least $1 million more can be added to that original figure of $8 million. That's a pretty decent chunk of change to plug whatever holes are discovered this season. Remember that Kirk is likely to sign an extension this Summer, and Deng and Gordon will be eligible to sign extensions next off-season. Noch's contract is also up after this season. Since he was signed as an unrestricted free agent, I'm not sure if he'll be a restricted free agent next summer or not. My guess is yes. Either way, the Bulls will have lots of uses for that money besides signing another free agent from outside the organization.

  5. Lots of details from the Detroit News:
  6. The hot rumor is Tyson to the Hornets for P.J. Brown and J.R. Smith. Another possibility would be a sign and trade with Atlanta -- Tyson for Harrington. I would do that trade as I think that Smith is a player too. I doubt Smith gets much playing time from Skiles unless he works twice as hard on the boards and defensive end. But he'd be an improvement over Piatkowski at the end of the bench. Brown's biggest value is his expiring contract, but he doesn't back down from anyone and is a vocal locker room guy -- a couple of intangibles the Bulls lost last year when they traded Davis.
  7. They need size and are looking to play an up-tempo style with Paul at the helm.

  9. No, but some are significantly downplaying his value. He's no Tim Duncan, but he provides more overall value than say, Ilgauskas. I'd say that's highly debatable. I'm not surprised. It's a loaded question anyway considering who you used, if I disagree with you I come off as a homer. Replace Z with Kaman, Gasol, or Diaw and the point remains. Wallace is awful at the offensive end, is the contract he got worth it for someone who is such a liability for half the time on the floor? You think Chris Kaman provides more overall value than Ben Wallace? If that doesn't prove my point that you're significantly undervaluing Ben, I don't know what will. Seriously.
  10. Don't forget his awesome free throw shooting. Yeah, and his rebounding and defense too. Is it at all a concern of yours that Wallace wanted an offense to run through him? Nope.

  14. I like that a lot less than, 4 years, $52M, but I still like the move. Wallace is a game changer. I can't think of another player outside of Artest that makes such an impact on the defensive end of the floor, and I think he has two, three dominant years left in him. 4 years instead of 5 or 6 makes all the difference.
  15. The NBA's over 36 rule comes into play. If the Bulls -- or any team -- sign Wallace to a 5-year deal, then the dollar amount of his final year counts against their cap, spread across the first four years of his deal. So a five-year deal at $16M per season would count as $20M a season against the cap over the first four years of the deal, for instance. For what it's worth, Wallace has said he isn't looking for a fifth season. I just think the Bulls need to blow him away somehow to pry him from the Pistons.
  16. I don't think an additional $4M over 4 years is going to do it. 5 years, $65M might.
  17. Have they made an official offer, or is that what the Pistons would like to pay Wallace?
  18. The Bulls won't sign Przybilla for less. The market for centers is silly, but that's where it's been set.
  19. This, I would be in favor of. He'll probably get similar money to Pryz and Nazr because of injury concerns, but the upside is pretty darn high given that he'll only be 24 by the start of next season. He'd be a great CENTER (legit size too) to add to the winged nucleus. Nuggets, Nene agree to six-year, $60 million deal Dangit.

  21. That would be around, 5 years, $80M. The first two years would be fun and the last two could be hell. Not doubt, but losing Wallace would hurt the Pistons significantly.
  22. As he bulks up, maybe not. Next year, easily. He's much more athletic then either Noch or Deng. Longer too.
  23. If the Nuggets fail to move Martin, the Bulls could make a run at Nene, a restricted free agent.
  24. Unless they trade for an expiring contract or two, it'll be difficult for the Bulls to save FA dollars for next season.
  25. 2.6 BPG and 7 RPG in 24.9 MGP is solid. I wouldn't want him and Tyson on the floor at the same time much, though.
