  1. The Hall of Fame is becoming a joke. I can understand some of the arguments for Rice, but am not really swayed. Dawson deserves to be in. There was something like Dawson is one of only 3 or 4 players with over 2700 hits, 400 HRs, and 300 steals. The guy was also a great defensive OF. It's just a crock. Morris was the winningest pitcher of the 80s and was great in the postseason, so I could see him being in. Being in MN I've heard a lot of the pro-Blyleven and it's made me a believer. His biggest problem was being a great pitcher on a horrible team for most of his career. His stats in the W-L column are the only place he's short. Tim Raines was one of the best players I'd ever seen for a good part of his career.
  2. My feelings exactly. It's a minimal upgrade. For that kind of upgrade you sign a FA or give up some lesser prospects. Burnett on the other hand interests me because his cost might be less, but his potential upside could be a huge upgrade.
  3. Everytime I get tricked into checking this thread and nothing ever new or interesting.
  4. I can live with Marquis as a 5th starter, but not as a #4 with Dempster as #5. Dempster was above average as a closer, but horid as a starter and set up man.
  5. Maybe he's going to be super-sub part II as DeRosa can't play SS or CF. I agree about Murton, Cedeno, and Marshall having good careers elsewhere.
  6. Agreed. I have a feeling a deal for Roberts is going to look like the Pierre deal.
  7. I read in the Sporting News that Cedeno is currently playing CF and SS in Venezuela and hitting and fielding well. Sounded like the Cubs are considering making him a super-sub. Not really part of the topic, but I didn't feel like opening a new thread. I think Muskatt is their contributor, but I hadn't heard anything about this.
  8. I finally got a chance to talk to the Twins beatwriter at the Bears-Saints game. He said the guy is huge and throws really hard. He said he was very raw, but he could be a decent pitcher in a few years. Nothing overly new, but I thought i'd throw this out there since it's pretty slow right now.
  9. Wont he be a FA after this season? Yes he will. So you could make the same argument with Santana in that you're not going to trade too much value as you can get him as an FA the following year. I agree that he's not a need, but man that would be a great bullpen.
  10. I'd rather target someone like Blanton or Burnett over Roberts as well. If Murton, Marshall, and Patterson got us Blanton or Burnett, I'd be fine with the rotation as long as it doesn't include Dempster.
  11. I've never seen Gonorrhea pitch. What's his WHIP?
  12. It sucks because you think of what was and maybe he could come close to that again. That said I think it might be best for both sides to just move on. I think setting up a rotation last year that didn't depend on him coming back was key to having the success that we had. At some point it's a shadow on the organization that becomes a curse of false hope expecting a savior to come out. Hopefully he signs with the Twins and all the rubes who cried about how evil Prior's dad was by supposedly saying his son wouldn't play there have to choke on it.
  13. Zambrano, Lilly, Burnett, Hill, and Marshall looks great to me. I'd think one of our youngsters could spot start for Burnett where necessary. He gives you a lot more upside than Marquis.
  14. I'm guessing Soriano Roberts Lee Fukudome Ramirez (4/5 could flip flop) Soto Pie Theriot It'd be great if we pulled a TLR and bat Theriot 9th and the pitcher 8th. Agree with both of you. I think that's exactly the lineup we'll use, but I agree that having Roberts lead off makes more sense.
  15. I think the Twins beatwriter is blogging in Nashville, so I didn't get a chance to talk with him. I
  16. Definitely try to get out there sometime. I just found out about it 3 years ago and it's a blast.
  17. Which bar is that? I'm in Minneapolis. I think I may have seen a story on it sometime, but there's times when I might be able to sneak out to catch a half at a Bears place. Alary's. http://www.alarys.com There was an article in the Star Tribune last year as the founder played for the Bears in the 1940s. He passed away a few years ago and his son runs it. If you listen to KFAN they have some bits sponsored by Alary's and when LaVelle E Neal III comes on to talk Twins they often mention Alary and the Bears. It's a lot of fun. The pics are somewhat outdated, but some of the waitresses do answer the age old question of "what do strippers do on Sundays?" I'm at the reserved section of the bar counter between the two angriest fans. I'll definitely try to get the information from LaVelle, unless he's boycotted the Bears season already.
  18. Roberts vs. DeRosa alone isn't a huge difference besides Roberts being able to hit lefthanded and speed. On that alone, don't know if it's worth it. However, as was mentioned DeRosa playing 3rd, SS, 1B, and OF 5 out of 6 games in a week might since he seems to be able to play anywhere and you know that he's going to be needed. Not going to get into the leadoff hitter debates.
  19. I've never heard anything about Lahey and usually I can pick up stuff on most of the minor league players living in MN and wife being a Twins fan. I'll try and talk with the Twins beatwriter tonight if he's at the Bears bar in St. Paul to watch the game. Normally he is. So maybe he'll have some insight.
  20. http://images.teamsugar.com/files/users/1/13254/47_2007/RickAstley_0.jpg I felt the need to add to this topic.
  21. I wonder how many places like stores and restaurants won't let you in if you're wearing that? I just wish Harry was alive to pronounce it on the radio.
  22. I have a feeling we get him, but the question is how much? In today's baseball economics, I don't know what overpaying is anymore, but I have a feeling we'll do something like 3 years and $40 million+.
  23. If Baltimore is really looking to dump Tejada's salary and would accept a less desirable package for Bedard to get it done, then I think we have a chance. But no way Markakis is included.
  24. AND Jacque! LOL. ESPN also said Bonds said he wants to play for Leyland again. Not saying any team in their right mind would sign Bonds, but could you imagine him at DH.
