  1. Plus add a RF, but I'd be happy with that and think that's the way it's going. I think it's way to early to criticize the moves that have or haven't been made. But Hendry has been making the moves for years now, and his moves have brought the Cubs to where they are now, a sub .500 team coming off back to back seasons that finished up in various forms of disaster. It's last call for Hendry. He's got to acquire some very good players and turn this team into a championship caliber team, quickly. I don't think it's too early to criticize the direction of the team over the past few years, and it's certainly not too early to criticize the organization's blatant disregard for the one problem that has consistently haunted this team for several seasons in a row; that is the lack of walks taken by their hitters which leads to a low OBP which leads to fewer runs scored which leads to fewer wins. Sorry for the confusion I meant to soon to judge this offseason. I think he knows that this year is important and that he can't just do a Sosa for Hairston trade and Burnitz FA signing as his signature move.

  3. I had heard this too and was talking with the Twins beatwriter who's a big Sox fan (he watches Bears games at the same bar I do) and he agreed that it made more sense to go for Overbay who was a pretty productive player. I have to agree with Outshined One's assessment of Thome's concerns.
  4. If it was for individual MVP then it's TJ hands down. However if you were going to ask what's been more important in gettting to 7-3 Defense or the running game, I'd have to go D.
  5. Favorite line: "Dude, remember when I asked your mom to prom?" I don't know about Rocky 6. The first 3 are classic. 4 is alright, but I refuse to acknowledge the 5th one ever being made.
  6. Maybe they thought it was a poll on egg incubation because it actually takes a few clicks to get to, so it's not like it was in someones face as soon as they went to northsidebaseball.com and was something they could ignore. However, that's the way the world is and while I might not agree with those opinions, I agree that it's Tim's site and he has every right to control content accordingly.
  7. What's his $ because even if he's overpaid, he might be a bargain in relation to what Beckett gets.
  8. That does make sense. While we paid too much, I've always thought Neifi was only insurance against a total Cedeno meltdown and it's going to be Cedeno and Walker if it's not Cedeno and Furcal. Of course I have a gut feeling Walker is part of some deal and you see him shipped to Texas for Soriano. Then we go with Pierre in CF and a power hitting RF. CF-Pierre LF-Murton 1B-Lee RF-Abreau 3B-ARam 2B-Soriano C-Barrett SS_Cedeno
  9. Then maybe Hendry should use the Rule 5 guys for something useful before we lose them. Great point. I think we have plenty of guys to trade that would qualify as "better than nothing" to the Dodgers.
  10. I like it. I also think Giles would be a good signing, but his possible pricetag at his age does cause me to worry a bit.
  11. Being a little bit younger the trade that chapped me was Lee Smith for Schiraldi and Nipper. I didn't hate those guys (at first) but after seeing them being the reason (not Buckner) that Boston lost you knew they were going to be mental cases. I didn't really see anything too far out of line or unexpected in what was written by Muskat.
  12. I really want Furcal, but agree that those 3 don't necessarily excite me into thinking we'd be contenders. However, I look at Furcal as having the Lofton-catalyst effect of a few years ago, allowing us to mix small ball with the long bal.
  13. New York for $3million. Either Mets or Yankees.
  14. Len and Bob are alright, but Stone was one of the best. The guy knows a lot about baseball and I think he brings up a good point about Giles age, especially if you're looking at 4/$50mill, despite how good his OPS and other numbers are. I know a lot of guys have a jones for Giles, but just because Stone isn't driving the bandwagon, he's not qualified as a GM, manager, and now wasn't a good announcer? C'mon. If I had to chose I'd select Furcal too. Scared about Nomar's health and I want a leadoff hitter and dependable shortstop. Both would be fine, but I agree with Stone's point. I want no part of Damon.
  15. 1. Sign Giles 2. Sign Furcal 3. Say goodbye to Nomar. I just don't see him staying healthy and I'd rather have Walker at 2nd and let Cedeno back up SS and 2B. Plus I'd save the money for the OF. 4. Address CF by trade or FA. 5. Dotel or another pickup to shore up the pen. SS: Furcal LF: Murton RF: Giles 1B: Lee 3B: Ramirez CF: ? 2B: Walker C: Barrett Zambrano, Prior, Wood, Williams, and Maddux as starters.
  16. That's one of the greatest ideas in the history of reality TV. Veronica Mars and Rescue Me are two shows I haven't watched, but know that I need to. Arrested Development, Entourage, and Curb Your Enthusiasm are the best non-animated comedies on TV right now.
  17. If Wood waived his no trade clause, would you consider trading him for someone like Zito? Zito's had a rough stretch, but a change of scenery might do both good. Plus we'd have a LHP to put in between Prior and Z. Not sure if I would, but I thought it was an interesting idea that I had read a few years ago.
  18. I think it's more likely we trade Maddux for young prospects. SD makes a lot of sense, but if I were to look at the AL, Baltimore needs pitching badly.
  19. Having watched more Nuggets games than I care to, Nene is a pretty good player. He's not a scoring PF, but he can rebound and is actually built for the position (unlike Chandler). A PJ Brown-Charles Oakley type of PF is pretty accurate, more athletic though. I think it's not a bad trade of Chandler for Nene. Heck, I'd trade Curry to some team for a SG right after that. Curry to Phoenix for Joe Johnson, draft pick and filller. A 1 through 4 of Hinrich, Johnson, Deng/Noicini, and Nene with Gordon as a Bobby Jackson type combo guard sixth man is the right nucleus to build around, IMO. I haven't watched as many games of the Bulls now that they're not on WGN, but that's my plan.
