  1. I don't understand this Ibanez thing some people have. He's not more valuable than Walker. At all.
  2. That's a good point, Treebeard, but what ballclub has a good history of winning in recent years despite some relatively tight payroll restrictions?
  3. fixed Well, I suppose that would make getting her pregnant rather difficult, now wouldn't it?
  4. Don't be silly. Market forces caused Eyre to sign a huge contract this early in the offseason.
  5. This is Andi's first post in over 4 months.
  6. When did he ever call Choi a target?
  7. He really isn't. The first sentence here was tongue-in-cheek, while the second is completely objective. There really isn't any room for mischaracterization.
  8. I don't think it's a given that Walker is gone if the Cubs don't get Furcal. Maybe I'm giving Hendry too much credit, though, Miles seemed certain that the Cobs wanted Walker gone.
  9. Surely, you can't be serious. Pointing out a spelling mistake is pure, comedy gold.
  10. Baseball is so [expletive].
  11. I think both of them have too much service time to count as rookies in 2006, but I don't know if that means they're big leaguers.
  12. I honestly wouldn't care if the Cubs went with Cedeno/Walker instead of Furcal/Cedeno. The former has to be a much better value, and it would hopefully provide Hendry some incetive to make big improvements to the outfield. That's certainly a more pressing concern than the difference between Furcal and Cedeno.
  13. I understand what he's saying. There's no problem there. What I'm saying is that the difference between Dunn fourth and Dunn second is probably not material over the course of the season. Having Dunn in the lineup is far more important than having Dunn bat second in the lineup.
  14. Do VORP and winshares take into account playing time? It seems that way, as both OPS and Eqa have Bradley pegged as the more productive player this year. I guess it depends on how much time you expect Bradley to miss next year.
  15. Lucky for us he does still walk in the number four spot, .374 OBP batting fourth over the past three years. On this team his OBP is certainly what we're most interested in, but Dunn had 77 XBH this year and 80 the year before. Not nearly all of those were homers, so it's not like he's an all or nothing hitter.
  16. Ideally I would, too, but I really don't think it will make all that much difference. I would be surprised if it even accounted for a win over the course of the season. It's not like Dunn is a bad middle of the order hitter.
  17. I think you're seriously overrating the effect that position in the lineup has on production in this case.
  18. Especially if the Cobs are going with Furcal, it's a better use of the money to keep Todd for 2nd and use Cedeno as the primary backup. I guess I'm expecting the Cobs to be able to figure that out when that obviously doesn't seem to be the case, though. So am I, but I'm not willing to guarantee much.
  19. Regardless of what other shortstops make, it's a bad signing for the Cubs, since Cedeno can provide comparable performance for much less.
  20. Among shortstops with at least 400 outs recorded, Neifury's .234 equivalent average placed him 14th of 16. Only Jack Wilson and Adam Evertt were lower, and this is in Neifi's career year. Neifi's saving grace this year was his glovework, but even that was uncommonly good. He's not likely to give as good performances in either category next year, which pretty much makes him junk.
  21. That would be a lot easier to swallow if Hendry actually had a good idea what it takes to win, though.
