  1. No, I was actually pointing out your false dichotomy. If you believe the issue is nebulous, then you are certainly welcome to try and obtain some clarification from Bruce. Given how often he visits the board, this is almost certainly within the realm of possiblity. However, for me personally, the fact that Bruce would post that at all -- regardless of whether it was a proposal, whether he knew for a fact that it was Hendry's actual value judgment, or whether it was merely an inference -- is pretty powerful evidence that it's reasonably indicative of Hendry's true feelings at the time.
  2. There's no reason it has to be one or the other. It could be Hendry's actual valuation of Hill compared to Dunn even if the trade offer was not discussed.
  3. Peralta's WARP3 in 2005 was 10.8. He has a whole lot of room for regression before the Indians have to worry about overpaying.
  4. It's not like playing LF this year means he can't play 2b for his new team.
  5. I think Williamson has a better shot at being good than either Eyre or Howry. That would certainly be another poor Hendry move if true.
  6. You guys have a lot of faith in the Cubs' pen. A whole lot of faith.
  7. Yanks. I cheated though.
  8. I don't know how you feel about the metric, but according to WARP3, Sosa was worth 47.7 wins during his peak while Hack was worth 42.5. That's close, but Sosa still has a significant edge.
  9. Yes, I do believe that is a floppy man-boob. Good call.
  10. Seems like Rusch found it, then. Here's hoping fatty can pitch like it's 2004, though.
  11. I think Joe Sheehan is my least favorite BP author. I'm surprised he didn't just go right out and say that Kenny Williams does all the little things.
  12. Pomp is baseball's foundation, and the other teams will play along because it's just as important to them, too.
  13. He was born in Mobile, Alabama.
  14. The one you're thinking of is a Bill James excerpt.
  15. Jeter is definitely a name that keeps popping up in my head when people talk about Tejada compared to other shortstops. His career OPS is comparable, but he actually has a good OBP so he's probably more valuable offensively than Tejada.
  16. Tejada isn't even close to that class.
  17. He didn't consistently sit against lefties this year, about 25% of his ABs came against them, and he has several full seasons under his belt. ESPN has all the details I do.
  18. A quick glance at his stats doesn't seem to indicate a consistant history of platooning.
  19. That's the problem with you statheads. You get so caught up reading words that you never bother to look at the posters.
  20. That's far from certain. Abreu's career OPS is almost as good as Tejada's best, and the team almost certainly takes an overall OBP hit with Tejada/Mench as compared to Abreu/Cedeno.
  21. So much for even a sliver of hope for getting Dunn.
  22. I'll be happy if Prior isn't pitching. I wish none of the players I like would play.
  23. I'm not sure that word means what Rubby thinks it means.
