  1. He would have to proved intent to hit him with the bat for battery which, despite a lot of conviction here, hasn't happened yet. However, that still doesn't show intent to cause harm. While battery may not require harm or even intent to cause there's still a big ethical difference there. Intent really does matter.
  2. Well, Murton may have been hitting 250, but I guarantee you that his OBP was quite a bit higher than Pierre's even with that low average. For that matter, he's .294/.377/.456 right now, which blows Pierre away. As for the rest of your post... 6/19 = .316 avg 6/17 = .353 avg (!) 6/23 = .261 avg That .261 may represent an improvement over what Pierre has done previously but it's still significantly worse than what Cedeno and Walker are producing. Seriously, why did you even post this? Did you think no one would divide the numbers out or anything?
  3. I was replying to this specific statement: It's far from clear that Young acted with "intent to do serious bodily harm", and, yes, intent absolutely matters. In civil terms, intent is one of the defining features of battery. But beyond even that, it's the difference between being a jerk with a bad temper and actually being a threat.
  4. It didn't look like a soft chuck, but that absolutely did not look like a bat thrown with the intention of causing harm.
  5. After seeing the video on ESPN, I don't think that's what happened. I couldn't see Young himself, but it looked like it probably hurt the bat more than the umpire. He hardly even flinched.
  6. Wuertz is already one of the best in the game at missing bats. I don't know if he'll make the adjustments to become consistantly good, but I like his odds of being good a lot more than I like Tony Clark's odds of repeating is good year.
  7. It would be hard to replace Wuertz's stuff, but Clark of 03-04 would be pretty damn replacable. I really don't like our odds of coming out ahead on a trade like that.
  8. Len reported that Maddux was moving up one and Rusch would start on Saturday.
  9. You should. OPSLAKDKAHGO +/- VORP is one of the most exciting new stats in the game. You'll probably see it beign reported right next to batting average during TV broadcasts soon.
  10. Yeah, I know.
  11. Not really, no.
  12. That's not quite what I had in mind.
  13. Then the solution is clear, isn't it?
  14. E-Pat should be ready by 2007. I would like to see the Cobs give him a shot at second.
  15. How about that pathetic throw he lobbed in from center today?
  16. I hate seeing Mabry's swing. Something about it really bugs me.
  17. You can't assume everything would have stayed the same. Nevertheless, a terrible decision. Why did he pull him? Anyone know?
  18. I hope you don't get it. Silly to jinx while the team is actually still doing well in spite of the injuries (knocking wood). WAY TO NOT JINX THE TEAM, KATJ.
  19. Actually, Daske had a problem with this specific article for being a "downer".

  21. Hey is this the thread that had ZZ's crazy "Dusty gets laid more than you guys" post? Man, that was classic.
