  1. You clearly miss the point of the White Stripes To play poorly and make millions? I'd like to see any 6 month vet of the guitar play Ball and a Biscuit. Jack White's minimilistic style is just ironic because he's actually a fantastic Blues and Rock guitarist. Exactly. The point is they sound like anyone who plugs in in the garage and cranks it to 11. You call it "sloppy", I call it "not processed through ProTools 173 times before going on the CD" Trust me, I'm as big a critic on over-produced crap as anybody, but the White Stripes just play POORLY. There's no other word for it. Here's an analogy - the White Stripes are the Neifi Perez of music. They don't play at a professional level, yet are rewarded with millions of dollars for that mediocrity. that's not a bass line on seven nation army. it's a guitar, but played a few octaves down, right? me too. i would consider jack white a great musician, period. he can play several intruments well.
  2. you're kidding, right?
  3. because Mettallica isn't universally appealling enough, or hailed enough to have a landslide win. 100 million total albums sold. not quite the beatles, but that's pretty dang good
  4. the closeness of this poll is really disturbing
  5. i think slayer could justify a 13 or 14, but jimi is/was better
  6. i'm pretty sure it says, "vote for your fav." it doesn't say, "vote for the band you think influenced 60's culture and rock music the most," does it? stop getting your panties in a wad because, gasp, some people don't like the beatles
  7. that's not true. 2004-2006 LD%: 2004: 19.1% 2005: 17.7% 2006: 22.0% his HR/F is also higher this year: 2004: 12.5% 2005: 10.7% 2006: 12.8% THT
  8. Barrett was left off because he wasn't having a good enough year. I've been trying to tell everyone that all year. I like him a lot, but he just isn't an allstar this year. Why this is a shock to everybody is beyond me. barrett is second to mccann in terms of VORP among NL C with a minimum of 200 PAs.
  9. Thank you. My only explanation would be that they wanted someone on the squad who actually played first base more than 5-7 times a year (not to say Konerko is a wizard with the glove). Hafner: 11.4 RC/G Konerko: 8.5 RC/G Was this directed at me? no, i was just giving another stat indicating hafner's offensive superiority.

  12. Why would you call Pierzynski undeserving? VORP among C in the AL 1. Joe Mauer 44.7 2. Michael Napoli 21.7 3. Ramon Hernandez 19.1 4. Victor Martinez 18.7 5. Jorge Posada 18.0 6. Kenji Jojima 17.5 7. A.j. Pierzynski 16.7
  13. David Ross: .320-12-28, .395/.708/1.104
  14. gary matthew jr.'s catch was much more impressive than rowand's in my opinion.
  15. man, how would that feel, to be DFA for your little brother?
  16. 763. Dobson's Supermarket
  17. He's not good because he has no control, which is exactly what I posted above. True, but you also claim that with better control, he would be a filthy closer. If I had more control and could throw in the mid 90's, I could be a closer too. Alas, I'm just not that good. the likelihood of him improving his control is far better than you throwing in the mid 90's with good control.
  18. jacque jones is 10th in RC/G and 13th in VORP among RF in both leagues. pierre is 53rd with a VORP of -7.8
  19. I went to the game. Had great seats. It was pretty awesome. Everyone gave him a huge ovation and all.
  20. you're wrong
  21. Isn't there speculation that Maris and his contemporaries were on amphetamines? Players have been skirting the rules since the rules were made, I don't really see the point in getting so upset at Bonds, and I don't like him one bit. that's what i was thinking. no one says anything about maris' sudden jump in power.
  22. We both agree that Pierre has to get on base more, but as far as Youkilis goes, he was shoved into the position of being a leadoff hitter when Crisp went down and other than striking out too often and having little speed, he's done exactly what's been asked of him. As far as Ortiz and Manny are concerned, neither of them are setting the world on fire right now. Manny has been pretty much equivalent to our own A Ramirez and although Ortiz has plenty of RBI's which is great, his average isn't where it should be either. Manny has been significantly better than Aramis thus far. I guess it's up to personal opinion as to what "significant" means. A Ram - 25 R, 9 HR, 24 RBI M Ram - 27 R, 11 HR, 29 RBI Considering one plays for a 2nd to last place team and the other plays for a 1st place team, Manny doesn't qualify as being "significantly" better in my book. Manny: 8.6 RC/G, 9 Win Shares Aramis: 3.9 RC/G, 4 Win Shares this is my favorite Aramis stat: HR/F - 11.7% edit: i forgot about VORP! through 5/28/06: Manny: 19.4 Aramis: 1.7
  23. Thank you! If Bonds was on the Cubs, people on this site would have such a diffrent attitude on Barry. If you support Sosa especially, then how could you hate Bonds? Ludacris. Best hitter of our generation, people. Well then, I guess I have an alibi to hate Barroid because I think Sosa cheated too and for that reason I couldn't stand him and he's getting his just desserts sitting on his butt wherever he is. And I'd argue Tony Gwynn was the best hitter of our generation, not Bonds. Gwynn's avg was 338 lifetime, Bonds 300. Gwynn achieved that average without being walked a billion times too. since when did batting average become the only way to measure the skill of a player? bonds drawing as many walks as he did (even before 1998) only adds to his skill as a hitter.
  24. You MAKE Francouer make the throw. He hasn't earn the respect to hold runners. You bet on him making a bad throw more times then not, till he proves he's a threat from RF. Until then, the decision to send Barrett, was an alright move to me. ? francoeur is regarded as having one of the best (if not THE best) arms in the majors. there's no way you send barrett there.
