  1. I keep looking at the schedule and thinking it looks pretty difficult. There are a lot of winnable games, but not a ton of games that just jump out as gimmies, and the ones that are (STL, CLE) are on the road. The home schedule looks especially tough. Cincinnati, Minnesota, New Orleans, NY Giants, Detroit, Baltimore, Dallas, Green Bay. I think 5-3 with that slate would be great.....obviously think we can take Minnesota and Detroit at home, and Dallas should be a winnable game. STL on the road ain't a gimme anymore. In fact the Jags and Raiders are only two teams I've seen that just about everyone should beat no matter the location. Maybe the Bills are a shade above now that they have no QB's.
  2. Would be funny if it weren't true. We all seem to think its definite that Castro's horrendous season is an aberration.
  3. That's an incredible leap if that's directed at me. Look at the past Bears threads on this site and you will find no bigger Jay apologist than me. All I'm saying is that I'd like to see him make better decisions now that he (hopefully) has a better OLine , skill players, and coaching staff. In the past I never faulted Jay because he was often running for his life, throwing to third-rate receivers, and was "supported" by a crappy coaching staff. Things have changed some, so my expectations are higher. That said, I agree that - unless we wind up with an early 1st Round pick (Bridgewater? Boyd?) - there isn't anyone who can step in.
  4. Well if you can't live with it you best get your affairs in order. QBs throw INTs that appear to be "forced". It happens. It is going to happen with Cutler. The Bears can still win Super Bowls with Cutler throwing forced INTs. Not if it happens too frequently. Again, I'm not saying he can't throw INT's. I'm saying he needs to consistently make better decisions the one that led to this particular pick, and if he has to force passes to Marshall because no one else can gain separation, we aren't likely to win a SB.
  5. Fair or not, this is true. I follow a lot of the sports radio guys on twitter, and it's funny. Bernstein last night was laughing at the overreactions to a preseason game last night, but then goes on to criticize Cutler for the one int, despite a 98.3 rating. Mully has already called Cutler "Jeff George" this morning on the radio. I know I'm a Cutler apologist, and he wasn't perfect last night, but for a guy in his umpteenth offense, I was happy with what I saw last night. He needs to obviously find some other guys besides Marshall to throw too, but it's hard to know if that's on Cutler, or if it's on the WR's for not getting seperation. I'm thinking it's probably time to put more of that on Cutler at this point...but still hard to tell. The pick was frustrating, and that was all on Jay..no doubt. But he's gonna throw his share of picks. As long as they're in areas of the field that don't hurt too much, I think we just have to accept that. Agreed, he's going to throw his share. What concerns me is the "quality" of his picks. If Jay is throwing deep down the sideline to Jeffrey and its under-thrown or the kid gets out-worked by a corner, I can live with that. What I can't live with is throwing into double coverage on a seam or crossing route. There may be something to the argument that the ther guys aren't getting enough separation. I'll watch that more closely this week.

    Castro

I like the way Dale handled his gaffe yesterday. Hold him accountable and then state support for him going fwd. He's had an awful year. Hopefully it's a blip and due to the change in approach scenario you guys have been discussing. It's also not too late to turn into a "meh" year by playing well during the last 40 days.
  7. Cutler's pick was nothing short of horrible. He's forcing a lot to Marshall. That said, I wonder whether they were purposefully trying to work the ball to Brandon last night since he didn't play last week and might not in Week 4. It's something to watch carefully next week. I thought the OLine played great. D was solid. I have some concern about our secondary. But let's be honest - this is all about Jay.
  8. A friend of a friend's boyfriend said she saw Pip pass out at 64 Flavors last night. Guess its pretty serious.
  9. by not having 20 feet of open ice in front of their own goal at all times Easier said than done. Last night was a good example of what is meant by "skated into the ground". You can't simply say to a less talented group, "Cover the high and low slot areas!" It's like telling the Cubs that they have to get more hits, like the Braves do. They don't have the same ability, so it doesn't matter how much you encourage them to do it.
  10. They won't win the series (can anyone beat the Hawks outside of Pitt?), but they might take a game or two because - as you saw in the mid-3rd period - the Hawks do have stretches where they get back on their heals and the forwards do a bad job on the back check. Every now and then (Game 3 v Wild) they have games like that.
  11. God I love beating Detroit
  12. What is bab [expletive] saying to Zetterberg?
  13. W'oh - great play by Seabrook
  14. How does that happen in a professional game...and a playoff game at that
  15. Holy crap the high slot is open every time....
  16. I stil don't get how they beat Anaheim...not cause the Ducks are great, but they are certainly better than this.
  17. great I hear that Brown now feels good about his chances of making the team.
  18. If it really is Lehrer, I could understand Kruk's incredulity, although I doubt he reads the New Yorker. He's quoting stats researched and published from FanGraphs. What does that have to do with Lehrer's professional mistakes? Kruk can look them up and see if he's full of [expletive] or not.
  19. Playing now on BBTN. Lehrer pointed out that Jordan Zimmerman's BABIP is .211 and therefore his numbers are likely to regress. Kruk had nothing, so he responded that since its on FanGraphs, "...well then it must be true." In other words you are too dim to understand, John, so you condescend and mock. Got it. Jackass.
