  1. In the old days Piazza placed a pitch like that one firmly over the RF wall.
  2. Is there any question whether Rothschild will lose his job if the Cubs do not make the playoffs? This staff has underachieved.
  3. I would be suprised if he ever makes it back to the big leagues. He's easily fooled by off-speed stuff. He could make it back, but I agree he is easily fooled.
  4. Season is a bust. Dusty has shown that, unlike in SF, he cannot get the best out of this group. Time to move on.
  5. And how exactly do you know this to be true? Well, they sell all of those newspapers....
  6. I sent Scoop the following email in response to his article:
  7. According to the Trib, the Pirates agreed to pick up some of Lawton's remaining salary(presumeably half), so its really less than 3 mill. Cubs probably owe him something like 1.5 mill for the rest of the season. That's not bad.
  8. Insider said they wanted both Hill and Pie. Might want to merge this w/ the Dunn/Soriano thread. (*steals mod's thunder*)
  9. Seeing him in a Cubs uni is a dream come true. I'd rather it were 1995 as opposed to 2005, but beggers can't be choosers.
  10. Good thing its ending soon; my wife might divorce me if every day were like this.
  11. And Reynolds and Brantly will be his coaches. And bring Olney along as an adviser.
  12. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Agreed that's a bit much.
  13. He's bluffing. If he isn't, he's trying to get fired.
  14. The really sad part is that we are quickly becoming like Red Sox fans. They scream "Yankees suck" at every home game (no matter who they are playing) and boo the stuffing out of their guys for minor infractions. If Pedro ever pitches there again, he'll be booed, which is ridiculous. Hawk deserved to be booed, I agree. But "Hawk sucks" was over the top and no what Cubs fans are about.
  15. The fact that none of the major outlets are reporting that the Cubs are heavily involved in any trade talks is a good sign (for those amongst us who want a trade to be made). Its also evidence, IMO, that Hendry handles the things the right way.
  16. This ain't gonna happen, no matter how much Dusty wants it to. If Tracy is fired, DePodesta is not going to hire the anti-Moneyball manager. That said, depending on how things end up this season, its not in any way out question that Dusty heads for the hills.
  17. I have a funky feeling that Manny will be a Cub by 2:59:59 pm eastern...we'll be Red Sox Midwest...which also should make the Beaniacs and Sabermatricians happy.... And me also! Career OPS of 1.100!!!!! \:D/ I can't remember who had it as their sig back in the Fall, so I apologize and give credit where its due: I WOULD GLADLY EAT THE CHILDREN OF 1,000 PLANETS TO MAKE MANNY RAMIREZ A CUB.
  18. Why don't we just trade Dusty for Tracy and call it good? Nevermind that: how about Dusty for Sgt. Pornstache, straight up? I'd do Dusty for Edwin Jackson.
  19. Blurb in the Trib this morning, citing the LA Times as their source: If Jim Tracy is fired, Dusty wants the gig. According to the story, he's putting the word out to his friends to help generate buzz.
  20. When will the "Month of Troll-dom" end? Just kidding. Welcome! Check out this section for several threads on the topic.
  21. You can just see Piniella losing his mind... ](*,)
  22. That's some pretty good reasoning. If we did not have the injuries that we do in the rotation, he might be a good chip to use.
  23. I just don't get it when people say they "want no part of Manny". I understand having reservations based on his contract and reputation. I know he's not a great OFer and his hustle ain't exactly legendary. But please check the stats! Let me help: http://www.baseballreference.com/r/ramirma02.shtml Don't even bother with this year - the man's OBP has been greater than .400 seven times in the last ten seasons! (sometimes substantially greater). And he's still doing it! He's 32 and does not have a history of nagging injuries (unlike a certain flame-throwing Texan on our roster) and therefore is likely to keep it up for another 3-5 years. Please Jimmy H! Make it happen! EDIT: Please also note that he has a career OPS of over 1.000!!!!
