  1. sure they are. chan ho park, a-rod's deal, etc, etc Ok, may be they used to be that stupid. They just ain't doing that deal. Throw in Wood or Big Z and they might. But then, we ain't doing that deal.
  2. I think that the point is well taken, its just a difficult thing to pull off. That said, most thought the same was true about trading Sammy.
  3. True, except Park pitched in an extreme pitcher's park before moving to Texas. Also, you can compare all sorts of people at various stages of their career -- for example, Wood is much better through age 28 than either Randy Johnson or Curt Schilling were. That's a very fair point. However, I would note that Wood's injuries are an "aggravating" (pun intended) factor...
  4. Identical to Chan Ho? I doubt it. On top of that he has one of the worst contracts. There is no way Chan becomes a cub. I think you misunderstood the point of my post: The stats are very similar, and SI was implying therefore implying that Wood may not be as good as advertised. Its not an implication that their contracts are the same or that we are acquiring Chan Ho-lio.
  5. Probably not true, but consider this: SI had a blurb this week where they compared Wood's stats to Chan Ho Park's at the same point in their respective careers. Nearly identical. EDIT: Also would note that this is the second time in a week that we are getting excited about a rumor posted by a new member that no one else can confirm regrading a possible major trade...no offense intended, BTW.
  6. How about CPatt, Mitre, Wellemyer for Soriano and cash? Or Soriano and and Nix?
  7. I may have mentioned this already, but I'd judge Soriano's acquisition based on what we have to give up to get him. So long as its a Mitre / Wellemyer / Single A OF type deal, I will be fine with it. I am not sure I'd feel too good about giving up someone like Hil or Pinto for him.
  8. If we got Soriano in as part of some sort of three way deal where we only had to give up, say, Mitre and lesser minor league prospect, it would be hard to argue w/ the move.
  9. For those of you who thinking dealing Wood and Murton for Manny is giving up too much of our future, I note that we have not a WS in 100 years. Lets worry about the future after we win one.
  10. Agreed that I would not do that deal -ARam is playing at 3B in a way that almost no one else in baseball is. That said, would you do Wood (I know, but forget the "NTC") and Murton for Manny and cash?
  11. Yeah, Walk is not a problem. And besides, my wife thinks he's a "hottie". Must be those sun glasses. (thread-killing-comment; though I suppose Gracie's Girl and Serena might have opinions...)
  12. The problem is you aren't the manager, Dusty the Dumbass is and he won't play Murton unless he absolutely has to. LoneStar: you really need to get off the fence re your opinions on Dusty.
  13. You'll need an "Insider" subscription, but the article is here: Link Basically its Phillips comments on the NL (and AL) GMs, their personalities, how they operate, etc. His thoughts on JH are interesting (and note the Beane reference): Also, check out the pic of Ed Wade - he looks positively frightening, like a an old-time general or nasty law professor. And most importantly, congrats to me on my 500th post! \:D/
  14. Check out his column in the Trib this morning: Link I think he's right - the 'pen is mightier than the sword (or bat). In all seriousness, adding another arm to the pen to team w/ Wood and Williamson would be huge, and might be of greater importance than another bat, particularly in light of what appears to be available. Unlike many of you, I am not at all sold on Kearns. I'd rather let Murton play. When you look at some the teams that have made deep runs over the past few years, one of the common denominators is three or four very reliable relievers.
  15. you gotta be kidding me. I know you some of you have an allegiance to billy beane, but this is a ridiculous series of implied conclusions. - Tim Hudson's career ERA+ is 138. He is an established pitcher who supplies a lot of quality innings at the top of a big-league rotation. - Juan Cruz is "dominating" AAA? HE'S TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS OLD! His ERA in oakland this year? 8.49 - Dan Meyer is either injured or just not a good pitcher: 55 IP, 67 H, 27 BB, 12 HR to date I don't see how you can suggest Beane didn't get the worst of this deal. They'd give Cruz and Meyer back for Hudson in a heartbeat...but at this point I don't think they'd get anything more than a AAA reliever for either of these guys. $$$$$$$$$$$$$ if you're only spending 55 million, you can't keep everyone. it'd be awesome if they could've kept everyone who's come up through their system that they wanted to, but this is not the reality the a's deal with. Agreed, but lets call a spade a spade - the Hudson deal was underwhelming in terms of what Beane got back.
  16. Wow. The Nats schedule is just brutal.
  17. Mora for Jerome Williams and a mid level guy? Not nearly enough. The O's want pitching with some track record of success and consistency. Marquis has nearly three years of that under his belt. We'd have to give up Maddux (no trade), or may be Rusch and Mitre. But even that's a stretch. Its realy not a good fit. Three years of success? Correct if I wrong but wasn't Marquis not successful in Atlanta? http://www.baseballreference.com/m/marquja01.shtml I stand some-what corrected: he has had two good years in a row and was solid in one other with the Braves, but had a couple of poor years in between. That said, if he or someone like him is what Balt. wants, we really do not have it available.
  18. Delluci walks a bunch and will cost much less than Soriano. That makes a lot of sense to me. He'd look good in the 6 hole, driving ARam and Jeromy home.
  19. Mora for Jerome Williams and a mid level guy? Not nearly enough. The O's want pitching with some track record of success and consistency. Marquis has nearly three years of that under his belt. 20. Carlos Quentin and Connor Jackson plz. My bad; I don't know those guys. Stats? I was also hoping we'd get some proven talent back for him, so I was not thinking of AA or AAA guys.
  21. Good one. Or may be he was teaching Jerry some US History: "No, Jerry, there was no St. Louis back when George Washington was President! You owe me 5 bucks!"
  22. 99.9% of what we do here is supposition/speculation, so why not try and figure it out? My guess is that the list might look something like this: 1. Texas 2. Houston 3. Arizona 4. Atlanta Base this on some of the usual stuff, but also that he is from the Southwest, and I believe he makes a second home in AZ. That said, there's no way we are trading him to Houston for a plethora of reasons. TX would be a good fit, but we'd want Mench and another; who knows if they'd do it. AZ does not have anything particularly attractive. Atl. is a "no" for some obvious reasons. Oh, and if he and Sarah want to stay in Chicago, trade him to the Sox.
  23. Support? How about their won-loss record. And my point was not that they are scoring more runs, just that their lineup seems to have benefited from SPod's presence at the top, and the team is winning.
