  1. Wow again. Sorry, Officer. Wasn't meant to be rude or degrading to RynoRules, and is he (she?) took it that way, my apologies. But there's not a GM in any league, major leagues to fantasy leagues, who would make that trade. Just you, indeed. I thought your response was abrupt and belittling, but since I try not to reply to personal attacks (as I believe to do so only encourages more of them), I chose not to flame back at you. That said, I think Big Stein's thirs for headlines and the Yankees' desperation for pitching could help such a deal along. Moreover, it frees up salary for them to pursue another pitcher, such as Burnett. So the deal for all intents and purposes would be: Wood, Burnett, Hill, and Dope for A Rod and some cash. That's not too shabby if you are the Yankees, IMHO.
  2. I'm not sure it that's crazy an idea (the A-Rod thing), but then what do I know. I would agree that it might cost more than Wood and Dope. But even if itcost Wood, Dope and Rich Hill, I'd still do it.
  3. This and the T.O. stuff is proof positive that NSBB should have a forum devoted to athlete police blotters and malcontents.
  4. There is no chance that the Yankees are dealing Matsui. I think there is a greater chance they would deal A-Rod; but then you have to eat a substantial portion ofhis deal. What about Wood and a single-A prospect (Dope?) for A-Rod (forget Wood's no-trade for a minute), w/ the Yanks picking up 25% of A-Rod's remaining K. A-Rod goes to short and we let Nomar walk away. That would be a pretty imposing IF.
  5. I am glad to see I am not the only one who has noticed this. He does seem to me to have some baby fat in his face, and his whole physique lacks muscle definition. I wouldn't even care about his appearance if he could stay healthy, but since he can't I do care. The type of injuries he gets are consistent with trying to play sports while being insufficiently conditioned. I would like to see him show up to spring training with a harder-looking body. I agree with both of you. You can sort of tell by the shape of his face, but the way his jersey "fits" him is even more indicative (contrast this w/ the way D Lee's jersey fits). It may be he prefers baggy jerseys, but I think its more likely that he is just soft in the middle. A little conditioning would not hurt him. He should get on Lee and Burnitz's program - those guys look to be in great shape.
  6. Scoop's next article: NSBB should be shut down. Its a hot bed of racism towards all people of color. And they hate Italians, as evidenced by their distatste for the Cardinals and Tony LaRussa.
  7. Nevermind in the booth - how about chewing on a toothpick, wearing wristbands and managing in blue pinstripes.
  8. Frostwyrm, what the heck is that in your sig? I take it's a horror movie of some kind. Scared the crap out of me last night when I was scanning the boards last night. Large Marge!
  9. He's fourth in the majors in OF win shares, and 17th in baseball in rc/g. OK - I was wrong (see JC's thread in Rants)
  10. Check his OBP and SLG. .392/.533 Oh. Nevermind.
  11. AHHHHHHHHHH! ARam should have set his feet! He had time!
  12. Wow Jimmy Eat Edmonds has been pretty ordinary stats-wise so far. Burnitz-like. HIT HIM!
  13. It would be huge if we could get out of this without further damage.
  14. Can't believe that Wiliamson is this bad.
  15. He might, but that's not what I am talking about. You made a statement like you know something. The only thing we know is that your team is going to win the Central. Nothing else is certain, at this point.
  16. unnecessary trolling. unnecessary trolling? It's a very relevant stat that Pujols has stepped it up as the Cardinals locked up the division, while Lee went 0-for-forever during that 8 game losing streak that crippled you guys. the cardinals have had the division locked up for months. don't act like they haven't. lee had a slump - okay, big deal. pujols, too, has slumped. it doesn't take away from the fact that lee has been an overall better player all season - note that i said ALL SEASON, which is what MVP voting is based on, not an 8-game stretch in august. All season? Have we played the whole season yet? I was under the impression we had a month and a half left. Seems to me that Lee had a good half and has been average or slightly better in the second half. The real difference between the two is that Lee's slump isn't quite through yet. When it is, Pujols will have the better numbers. Who are you, Nostradomus? Being able to predict the future must be something inherint in in people from St Louis. And Barrett just jobbed.
  17. Actually, you are right. He does have very good movement on his pitches. If he doesn't learn control though, it will probably be for nothing. Yup. He's really young though, so may be we just have to be patient and give him to get it. If he's not walking guys, the Cubs probably lead this one 2-1.
  18. Ya' know, Williams could be a slightly watered down version of Z if he'd stop walking guys. His stuff is really good.
  19. Nice play by CPatt. That's the sort of stuff that will allow me to be patient with him for one more day.
  20. I am not so sure. I like Z very much, but he's a bit unpredictable in terms of his emotional outbursts and temper. Prior, when healthy, is more of a solid presence, I think. That said, I would not be opposed to adding Z to the list. But if keeping him meant Prior does not make list, I'd lose Z.
  21. Tim: agreed; my point was only that based on his argument - that the Yankee way (which he appeared to associate with excessive spending and building from "without") "is not the way to go" is contradicted by the fact that the Yanks are winding down a fabulously succesful dynasty, and our last dynasty took place about 100 years ago. I agree that the the truly dominant Yankee teams were built around their self-made core: Jeter, Pettite, Rivera, Posada and Bernie. Note that these guys basically represent a Noah's Ark of baseball: one player from each general position (IF, SP, RP, C, OF). The problem the Cubs seem to be having is identifying who their core ,will be. My two cents: SP: Prior C: Barrett RP: Wood (if he remains a reliever; if not, like The Waterboy, "the search continues") OF: Pie? Murton? CPatt? Other? IF: Lee and Aram.
  22. Well, let's look at the Yankees system. They traded away most of their minor league talent for higher-priced stars, leaving them with a $200 million budget and no exceptional talent pool to draw from. And as we can see, $200 million does not guarantee a WS. For the Cubs to trade away the majority of their farm only to buy them back in free agency leaves the team at a financial disadvantage and potentially gets back guys who have already hit or passed their prime. The Cubs are doing a good job of trading prospects for quality players. Especially in this market, I'd be more apt to continue their SOP than to sell the farm. Your argument is hurt by the fact that the Yankees won 4 WS in 5 years using the philosophy your describe. If that philosophy netted the Cubs just 1 title, I'd be for it.
  23. BUMP Gammons on ESPN Radio responding to a question from Mike Greenberg on whether Dusty will return next season: "I don't know." Thanks Peter! He went on to give the usual "Dusty excuses" about how much bad luck they have had w/ injuries, etc. Greenberg caled him on it, saying that they have been disappointing. Next asked whether L.A. is a possibility for Dusty. Gammons said DePodesta would probably have to be gone for that to happen b/c he and Dusty are opposites in terms of baseball philosophy. At least Gammons got that part right.
