  1. If CPatt can't handle the pressure here, imagine what happens when he goes on one of hsi prolonged hitless streaks in The Boogie Down... They wouldn't want him.
  2. I agree that the majority of this bd tends to blame Dusty first and ask questions later (my initial attempt at a user name was rejected b/c it was supportive of Dusty; mind you this was in early 04'). I don't think labling them in general is productive. That said, I have lost a great amount faith and resepct for Mr. Baker over the past year or so.
  3. I know the game is not over and the win isn't salted away, but this hot-cold stuff proves just how fragile this team's psyche is. If they aren't given a full-on loud wake up call (like demoting a regular and a semi-regular), they don't seem to get it. That said, it sure is looking like the right button was pushed....
  4. Good things happen w/ real leadoff hitter at top.
  5. Agreed - that inning was a very positive sign and things may finally be turning...
  6. same Likewise
  7. where have you been? that's the cubs' philosophy on trading their players. see farnsworth, sosa, cruz, hawkins, etc. Yeah, glad that Hawkins trade netted us a load of nothing. I assume that you are being sarcastic....?
  8. IMO, we are in better shape in the OF than it may intially appear: How about Murton, Pie and one big bopper via trade or FA? (i.e., Dunn or Huff)
  9. Tonight I told my two year old son that some day a few years from now he'll be wearing his fave player, Matt Murton's, jersey and that I will tell him how he saw Murton's first big league hit...and CPatt's last game as a Cub...
  10. Have not seen this one proposed yet: Hairston CF Murton LF Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Burnitz RF Walker 2B Barret C Cedeno SS What's really sad is that I look at this, my prefered lineup, and think, "Why does it suck so much?" :(
  11. There may be some truth there. The way he has handled this team is inexplicable, and you can see the fabric breaking down before our eyes - Ramirez not running to first; Prior's comments in the paper this morning, etc. If this were any other franchise, Baker would probably be gone by now. But note: if the Cubs fail to win a game in FL this weekend, he may not make the trip back to Chicago.
  12. Sign me up, bay-bee!
  13. I hope not. This season is tanked. The players are ignoring the manager; he's lost them. We need to find out whether guys like Murton, Cedeno, Greenberg and Pie can help for next year.
  14. I think the chances of Wood waiving his no-trade to go to Philly are about a trillion to one. Agreed, but that's not what I meant. Just asking whether you think such a trade would be worth it, if Abreu were available.
  15. Would you do Wood, Mitre and Dubois (or Kelton) for Abreu and a pitching prospect?
  16. Time to back up the bus? Turn JH into Earl Shibe (sp?): "I can sell you that Cory Patterson for $29.95!"
  17. I posted a thread re Durham a bunch of weeks ago. I think he would be a good option if no other reason than he is likely to come cheap, but now that we have fleeced SF once this year, I don't think Sabean will be as quick to take JH's calls.
  18. Not a bad idea. I am not ready to throw in the towel on the season just yet, but if I were, that's a good deal.
  19. Buddy, there's no one out on the block that we need, or do you want us to pull the trigger on Preston "I hit .200 on the road," Wilson? Be patient. "Friend": Patience officially gone after personally witnessing yesterday's game and watching tonight's on tv.
  20. I wish I was "The Man," but I thank you for your compliment anyway. I think Texas wants to dump Soriano for young talent - they can't afford him next year, his 6th year of service, where he could earn $10M. But to your point, it may take more to get him. I would guess that if you added Rich Hill to the deal, it gets done. I like Soriano, but I wonder whether a streak hitter is what we need. I mean his OBP is so poor. But his slugging is good. Its a tough call. That said, after what we have seen over the last two weeks, may be its worth it. :-k
  21. LISTLESS!!! The team is an embarassment right now. Their body language really says it all. What a waste of Lee and Ramirez's talents.
  22. Hoops - I know you are The Man and we all respect the heck out of your sources, but why would TX do that deal? I mean, if I am JH, I do it w/out a second thought, but isn't Soriano alone worth more than two middling, unproven pitchers and one underachieving OF (and Walker)?
