  1. Look, you two need to stop fighting. I mean, c'mon dudes, you don;t see the vets fighting w/ Dusty b/c he plays them all the time. And the rooks can learn a lot by sitting on their keischters (sp?) and watching how the vets stink it up.
  2. An anchorman quote in the post, and in the signature. Nice. Thank you. And now for a musical interlude: "The Cubs b-ow. The Cubs b-ow. Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubbies sure did b-ow today."
  3. *channeling Vince Vaughn as Wes Mantooth in Anchorman*: I HATE YOU JOSE MACIAS, I HATE YOU!
  4. It just seems like Manny is eactly the sort of presence thislineup deperately needs. If we are going o be stuck w/ Dusty, might as well force some guys on him who understand patience at the plate and have high (or in Manny's case, enormous) OPS. I know: the dead horse called, and he wants me to stop beating him.
  5. His baggage frightens me to death. It would be difficult to root for the guy. And Kent is flat out more productive than Bradley is, has less of a history of injury (if you do not count that incident where Mr. Pornstache was "washing his car" ), and to the best of my knowledge has never thrown anything at a fan.
  6. Agreed X 2. I love Nomar, but we can't keep trotting out guys who we can't rely on. Injuries happen, but if you have a bunch of expensive guys whose history suggests that they are more prone to get injured than the avg. player, that's a big problem.
  7. That's a well-reasoned and realistic prediction, JC. But we already have one exteremly injury prone high-priced position player (Nomar), so I don't think I want another (Drew).
  8. He isn't blocking Pie. Felix is probably out of the year. Based on the minor league director's (Oscar something - I can never remember his last name) comments in today's Trib, there's an outside shot that he could get a Sept. call up. He's supposed to start playing this week, of I remember right.
  9. Agreed. And if we do manage to sign Furcal, I doubt the Braves will be anxious to tradeus the rest of their middle infield.
  10. Desperation? They gave up Jody Gerut, who's basically a 4th outfielder, for him. It was a calculated gamble given Lawton's 2nd half struggles in the past, and it's not paying off. I definitely wouldn't call it a waste, it was worth the shot to upgrade. Yeah, at the end of the day, I don't see Gerut as any great loss. Essentially we dealt DuBois for Lawton; also not a bad deal.
  11. I am bumping this again b/c to me, its a no-brainer. Who would you deal to get Manny if he were available? I'd be willing to give up a lot: he's only 32 and has a career OPS of over 1.100, including a career OBP of over .400. His alleged defensive issues are well documented, but you know what, the Sox managed to win a title with him in LF 6 out of 7 days a week. If you hae a CF with good range, you can mitigate that problem. Would you trade Patterson, Rich Hill, and Pinto to get him? Would the Sox (they might want another position player)? The Sox certainly need young pitching, however, and as we know, Theo (like his mentor) values payroll flexibility.
  12. BUMP again: ESPN Insider article today on Jim Leyland being ready to return to the bigs. One current manager whom we all respect has thisto say about Leyland: Sounds good to me. Or at least better than the current situation.
  13. I think Giles is a realisitic possibility if for no other reason than we have a long history of signing over-the-hill OFs to long-term deals. I guess I'd rather have Damon.
  14. This has been a highly unsettling and frustrating season, and comments like the one above only make it worse. And of course, the Bears stink.
  15. They'll give this until 9/1 and see where they are; then JH wiull turn over the roster (I hope )
  16. Bears out the notion that they get more guys on base.
  17. Agreed. As I noted in the Burnitz thread, though, what will we really get for some of these guys? And congrats on your thousandth post.
  18. I agree the season is lost and Burnitz is just blocking guys like Pie and Murton, but I dunno who would want him. What's he worth? He looks clueless up there right now.
  19. I would take Torre in two shakes of a lamb's tail. That said, I feel the same about Joey G.
  20. I think that TC3's point here is that the current Cubs seemingly do not put the so-called "fundamentals" first, most importantly, defense and "contact-hitting". And when I say defense, I mean hitting the cutoff man with a good, accurate throw; cutting balls off in the gap; etc.
  21. I very much doubt it, as that would be the loss of 25 jobs. The union would have a fit. 25 plus 15 come Sept.
  22. Moreover, while Damon gets to a lot of balls, he has a popgun arm; and according to Dusty, so does Murton. Still, I could live w/ Damon and Murton in CF and LF.
  23. Seems like this whole thing is a bunch of miscommunications. In any case, I think Big Stein prefers broken down picthers over the age of 30. Thus, Wood does not fit the bill.
  24. Wow again. Sorry, Officer. Wasn't meant to be rude or degrading to RynoRules, and is he (she?) took it that way, my apologies. But there's not a GM in any league, major leagues to fantasy leagues, who would make that trade. Just you, indeed. I thought your response was abrupt and belittling, but since I try not to reply to personal attacks (as I believe to do so only encourages more of them), I chose not to flame back at you. Abrupt and belittling? Well, for what its worth, I didn't read it as any kind of personal attack on you, as insulting to you or disparaging to Hendry. Any time "pantsing" is suggested between GMs in a post, I don't generally take it very seriously. Oh, sorry. I thought the rule around here was to attack thepost and not the poster. Thus, say the Yanks wouldn't do the deal, instead of "Just you...", which is a clear reference to and insult directed at the poster (yours truly). In any case, I put the A Rod thing out there as an idea. Folks don't agree? Hey - that's just life in the Big City, and may be you guys are correct, and I am not.
