  1. "I've got rhythm! I've got music!"
  2. I also have always felt like Snyder is an arrogant a** and that he lived in large part off his Duke pedigree. With regard to the afor mentioned rumors; they are not rumors, but facts. The fact is that he was cited for recruiting violations stemming from his first year, 1999, through 2003. That's not good. Thus, the program is on probation:
  3. Kyle Farnsworth's buddy was never a Cub. There was a Steve Wilson on the team, as well as Paul Kilgus and Paul Assenmacher. All of them were pitchers. Ad please don't ever forget my main man Curt Wilkerson. he wa sthe original Neifi (or Macias, if you prefer).
  4. Stick to the argument. The Neifi thing has been beat more than Rocky was in all 5 flicks. There's some good threads with detailed analysis of his woes (and his few strengths). Unfortunately the search is still down, but if you back track a bit, you'll find it.
  5. Agreed. Doesn't make it "right", but it is what it is. They are a business, and one with actual shareholders to answer to.
  6. Ah, my bust. I forgot that it was Ryne and Grace who played well and Hawk who didn't show. I was 13, and even then I recognized that there was no way Mike Bielecki was going to repeat the year he had in 89'. And who was that Maddux kid anyway? When he came up all I knew was that he has a fu-man-chu 'stache.
  7. Baseball Reference says Salazar only played 26 games as a Cub in '89. He came over on August 30th. True, but Mr. Salad Bar saw a bunch of ABs down the stretch and in the Giants series, as I recall. I cried my eyes out at the end of the Giants series. Sandberg and Dawson were brutal, only Grace showed up. Will Clark yanked an HR out of Wrigley towards Sheffield that would have hit the "el" tracks if not for the buidlings. Matt Williams announced his presence to America with some rockets over the old chain-link at Candlestick. That series sucked.
  8. I just don't get this.... [then I remeber who the Nats GM is.]
  9. Actually I drafted Brand and LeBron, traded Mike Redd in a package for Davis back in November, I believe. Anyone would know to draft Brand and LeBron. I prefer to receive proper credit for trading Redd for Baron and some of my "lesser" picks like Harrington, Bell and Jamison, who inexplicably fell into the latter half of the draft.
  10. Kess: your point, as usual, is well taken. That said, I wish that Jim would have prepared better, as this situation should have been relatively predictable if he did his homework.
  11. I know you wrote Carlos would disagree, I was merely replying after seeing a few posts that questioned Hoops for writing what he wrote. It appeared to me that many thought he was nuts for thinking some GM's would think what he wrote they might think, and I happen to agree with his theory. That was me. I still think the notion is ridiculous. I'll eat my hat if the deal as proposed goes through Lets hope you have some ketchup available then.
  12. No matter how much of the text I included, the point still stands. The Cubs plan was to draft and develop pitchers, then trade for and sign big bats when the time came to contend. The time has come, they aren't signing the bats, and can't trade for them. That is the fault of poor management. Agreed in general. I dunno if we can kill JH re a possible Abreu trade based on this point, but may be we can.
  13. For the love of G-d, JH can't come up with something better than Dye and Contreras?
  14. I am not sure about Pie either, but I would not deal him for Lugo. I would deal him for Dunn or Abreu.
  15. I think it's more that a healthy Williamson > Wuertz. I don't think anyone's really "down" on Wuertz. We have a surplus in the pen right now, and Wuertz is right on the fringe. It's a good thing. The two posters I replied to said "I have zero confidence in Novoa or Wuertz," and the other "i agree. wuertz and novoa are the weak links." If that's not down on Wuertz, I don't know what is. I agree though, that a healthy Williamson is tough to beat. If both of those two guys have the type of years I think they're capable of behind Howry, Eyre, and Dempster, then we could have the best pen we've ever had. 1980 - Bruce Sutter, Lee Smith, Willie Hernandez, Bill Caudill & Dick Tidrow in the pen at one time. Schnikes!!! I forgot about that one. Two of the five or six best relievers of all time (arguably) and a guy who won the Cy four years later for one of the greatest single-season teams of all time (84' Tigers).
  16. For the love of G-d, man! Don't you pay attention to every thread?!
  17. Nice observation; read "Juicing the Game". Its an entire book based on that premis.
  18. I agree. I think its romantic to assign credit to Sosa and McGwire, but I thought this thing really turned in 03' when we had classic playoff series involving baseball's three most popular teams. Ratings and attendance all went up the following year. People forget that the 02' WS was the lowest rated in history (even though it was a lot of fun to watch).
  19. Don't take this personally, but you can't be serious. You're openly calling for clubhouse discontent as a way to win more ballgames? Perhaps, when it means taking away one of your biggest obstacles. I think that's a bad idea. Couldn't we just fire him the old fashioned way? It also would not bod well for the guy who replaces Dusty. Lets not turn this into the NBA. Plus Lee appears to be a class guy and likely would not get involved in such nonsense.
  20. Wow, Meat. Fantastic summary. Thanks much. He did not say anything unexpected, and I am thrilled that Murton and Cedeno will be starting. If those two play at a high level, this an entirely different team. Just one optimistic view.
  21. This may be the only time men can comment on a man's legs and not arouse "suspicion".
  22. Very fair question - you should call in. I'll likely be hung over b/c I am having a couple of drinks tonight (yes, I am a light weight:  )
  23. - This was a very nice signing by the A's; may be not as earth-shattering as a few people might think, but still avery nice job. - If Thomas is healthy, you can realistically expect .275/.350-60, IMO. - I don't think Thomas has taken or is taking 'roids. - Stop calling people names - all of you - whether it be "moneyballer" or "martyr", they're equally stupid. Cut the nonesense out. The WWf analogy is a good one and was promulgated by media sensetionalism and Michael Lewis, IMO. Stop giving in to it.
  24. or maybe you just want to see her avatar? And who can blame him? O:)
  25. Haha, if you think this is bad, wait until the Cubs lose 5 games in a row. I don't think it will ever be worse then when neifi got his 2 yrs and 5 mill. Pure venom. This place was toxic. Edit: and the guy above me had it right. Lets all take step back and deep breath.
