  1. Here here. That was one of the most lucid posts I have ever read here, free of melodrama or nonsense. A well reasoned opinion; I don't necessarily agree with every word, but still, well done.
  2. I assume that you are being sarcastic, since that's often your approach, so I must ask: Why are you mocking those who dislike him? Hasn't he done plenty to make a reasonable person find him abhorent?
  3. I agree completely, that's my opinion (though plug in Andre Dawson for Ryno and you have my exact case). All the same, R.I.P. I forgot to add Hawk and Sutt. I loved them as much. I guess it would be accurate to say fave non-Cub (and by a wide margin).
  4. When I was young, Kirby was my favorite baseball player not named Ryno. I loved the fact that he was short and stocky, yet ran his a** off, hit like a fiend and ran into the hefty-bag Metrodome walls to get fly balls. His performance in the 91' Series is one I will never forget. Its very difficult to resolve that adoration against the man he apparently was in private life. Its too bad that the fondness I have/had for him has been stained by later revelations.
  5. I'd take it, only b/c its likely to be freezing that day, and accordingly I don't see them getting more valuable as the date nears. I could be wrong.
  6. People on this bd. who know me understand that I am not the first guy to pick up the picthfork and torch, but I agree with Goony here. Something stinks; mainly b/c I have heard all too often that Cubs Pitcher X is fine, and he's just being "brought along slowly". Surely the Cubs' history of doing this sort of thing counts for something.
  7. IMO: With no basis for this whatsoever other than my own instincts and history, I think Hendry and the Cubs may have sent a message to the local media that he close ranks on them if they put him under the hot lights in an interview, thereby making it difficult for beat guys to get on him or interview him "tough". I don't like Levine, but I would not be surprised if this were the case. Again, just my opinion. I am sure Bruce Miles has a more informed opinion.
  8. More: Levine: - Nobody wins titles without a good pen. Look at the Sox. The Cubs have an opportunity to have that sort of pen. - Williamson is throwing hard; doubt they will trade him, unless its for someone like Zito. - Wood will be throwing sitting-down on the tramp (ugh) soon. - Its fair to criticize Cubs for the Wood and Prior issues, but let the pitchers be responsible for what they do.
  9. As I write this. Says Levine did a "softball" interview with Hendry yesterday; acted like a "Cubs PR" guy. Good stuff. Silverman killing Cubs for being less than fwd re injury issues, particularly Prior. Levine fighting back by saying that Cubs haven't misled the fans and that Silverman acts like a fan. Good radio. Listen in if possible.
  10. If we manage to trade for Dontrelle Willis I'll change my name to DouchebagMcGee. Until then let's put away the drugs and stop proposing Willis trades. :lmao: What's really great is that the proposed deal is a soon-to-be aged 2B with injuries, a completely unproven young pitcher, and garbage.
  11. Positive spin on Wood's injury: I won't have to stay up late to watch the playoffs for the third straight year.
  12. Let jerome and Angel pitch. Bring me Dunn or Abreu. Or both. :)
  13. Maybe Ryan's success had something to do with his lack of injuries? Injuries and surgeries take a toll on a pitchers stuff. Agreed, but that wasn't what you argued above. You argued that Wood's nos. are "average" b/c whenever he has led the league in stat like "Ks", he's also led it in walks, plus his ERA has never been better than 8 or 9 in the league. That sounds a lot like Nolan Ryan. The difference is, as you pointed out, he has been hurt much more often. But that does not mean that he is "average" when healthy, which is what you argued.
  14. Injury prone, yeah. Average, no. There's a difference between being bad, and just being injury prone. Kerry is injury prone, but not near "bad". BTW, how's Ben Sheets' latest rehab going? Im not saying Kerry Wood is a bad pitcher i'm saying at this point he's average. Maybe that's due to all the injuries, but the last two years have been pretty average. Even in his best years ('01 and '03) he was only 8th and 9th in the league in era. Every year he's been in the top ten in K's he's also been in the top ten in BB. I don't think after all his injuries he can ever return to that 03 form, therefore I think of his as an average pitcher. Ben Sheet's rehab is going well, no set backs yet. He's on pace to start opening day for the 5th straight year. First ST game for him tomorrow. Guess that means he's an injury prone Nolan Ryan, and what an "average" pitcher he was!
  15. Convert to Judiasm. I always get what I wish for b/c I get 8 shots at it. Next year I am wishing to travel back in time to be raised a Braves fan. Our *expletive* luck is just unreal. And I don't believe for a minute that this a minor setback. See you in July, Kerry.
  16. In. The defending champs - UNC Tar Heels. Big "ups" to my alma mater the SUNY Albany Great Danes as well (if they win their conference tourney - and they are favored - they are in).
  17. Just so long as he doesn't cut into Matty's PT in any significant way...
  18. Where's my love? Many of you panned me early in the year. Good news is that regular season records mean squat come playoff time.
  19. Agreed. I'd offer any three of our so-called top ten.
  20. Dark Horse: UNC. If they win out (UVA and Duke) and then win the ACC Tourney (including beating Duke again), they'd have to be considered. That said, this scenario is very unlikely to happen.
  21. Cabrera in Yankee pinstripes makes a lot of sense. The question is what do they have to give the Fish; not much, I think.
  22. Levine now reporting that Thomas and Williams spoke over the phone last night. Thomas told Williams that he was misquoted on several occassions. They agreed to bury the hatchet.
  23. We've grown accustomed to players doing this. GM's should be above it all. Remember when Grudzielanek cried collusion or Moises was upset at how Hendry handled not re-signing him. Players whining like this happens all the time, but you didn't see Hendry calling these guys idiots. I distinctly remember Wagner calling out Hunsicker in Houston. You didn't see Hunsicker call Wagner an uneducated hick. GM's have to be above this. It's called professionalism. And I agree. But for how long should the Sox remain mum while Thomas bad-mouths them to anyone he can find? He has been doing this since the parade ended - its not like this was the first time. By my count, he has made incindiary statements on no less than 3 occassions, and I am probably missing something. Wouldn't you agree that the Sox have the right to stand up for themselves? Or should they just crawl into the fetal position? I see what you're saying, but there's definitely a point somewhere between simply taking abuse and "He's an idiot. He's selfish. That's why we don't miss him," A fair point. I agree. Williams could have been more general and professional in his statements.

  25. I can't believe none of you guys think Thomas should shut up. He's been running to anyone with a microphone. If anything, they should all pipe down, but it seems pretty clear that Thomas got all of this started.
