  1. Or as your sig used to say, "All is well." :^o What a load of (bleeping fowl-mouth cursing) horse manure.
  2. In light of how things have gone on this bd. for a while now, I am surprised to find so many of us defending the Cubs in this instance. In the past I defended JH and company b/c I felt they deserved the benefit of the doubt. They have used up those free passes with me. IMO, you can bury your head in the sand or face facts: the Cubs current regime is not forthcoming with the fanbase about its intentions or the staus of its players. I personally believe this tone is set at the top by MacPhail; as long as the team continues to sell tix and bring in big bucks, he has little to worry about. Accordingly, unlike the Yanks or Red Sox, there is no requirement that Cubs officials be accountable for their actions or inactions. The result is what we have seen with Wood and Prior this Spring. Of course, my own argument is contrasted by the fact taht neither JH nor Dusty have received extensions. Here's hoping that I am proven wrong.
  3. Exactly. Lighten up, people. As pissed as we all are, its still just baseball, and there ain't nuthin' we can do about it (except complain).
  4. Hm. They did it with Wood.
  5. For what's it worth: Levine is reporting that "as soon as the Cubs can trade Todd Walker, they will."
  6. I thought that Illinois should have got a 3 at the worst. yep, we got the ol' joan collins special, like Big Ten teams always do. Wasn't U of I a no. 1 last year? EDIT: Again, I think U of I got jobbed (particularly since Tenn. got a no. 2; what the hell was that?), but I reject the dead-horse "east coast bias" argument.
  7. Agree with whoever said it above: shut up and earn the job with your bat. You're pissed? I don't blame you. But vent to your wife or your agent. If you really desire to stay here, you are not helping things out by calling the GM (and I think its clear that he is refering to Hendry) a liar.
  8. I thought that IL was a 3; very surprised to see them as a 4.
  9. You seem to have quite a Big Ten bias. There's been no greater underachiever this year than State. On the other hand, I think OSU deserves a no. 1, and if not, they are no worse than the 5th best team in the nation.
  10. Redick is a lot better than Langdon, although he's going through a Jay Williams slump atthe end of the season. Langdon had better players around him otherwise he likely would've shot as much as Redick does. Bigger shooting guards in the NBA will eat him alive, and he's not quick enough to defend NBA PGs. He's a great college player. Who cares what he may or may not do in the NBA. I am a Tar Heel fan, and I will tell you that I respect this Duke team as much any I have seen in the last 20 years. They get a lot of production out of players whose skills are more limited than most believe they are. And BTW, BC's players are a bunch of goon, particulalrly Marshall.
  11. Just to clarify - LSU got spanked by FL in the end. And Cuse won the Big East. Accordingly, they beat four straight teams ranked in the Top in the RPI, specifically nos. 3, 7, 38 and 41. Who cares if they did it in four days or fourteen. Highly impressive, IMO.
  12. That's nice - really. But how is any of that comparable to beating UConn, the "cheese" between "sandwich" wins over Cinci and G-Town? I like Bucknell, but lets not compare them with Cinci or G-Town, nevermind UConn. The Big East was arguably the toughest conference in basketabll this year, and if it wasn't, it was no. 2. Cuse is getting ready to go for "four-in-four" against most of the top 5 in the league, sans Nova. Too impressive to ignore, IMO. Sorry, I can't lend more credence to the wins just because they came on consecutive days. It's also very important that both UNI and Syracuse hosted Bucknell, with UNI winning and Syracuse losing. I don't really see how Bucknell is worse than Cincinnati, and UConn/Georgetown(3/38 RPI) is pretty comparable to LSU(beating Florida right now)/Iowa(10/14 RPI). I completely disagree that Bucknell is on par with Cinci, or that beating Iowa or LSU is on par with beating UConn (at any time / place). We'll have to agree to disagree here, I think.
  13. Dude, chill. I wasn't intending to "crap" on the MVC. I think they are great. I was making a case that Cuse is as deserving as any of the NSBB bubble teams, and, specifically, more derserving than No. Iowa. I don't know why you felt the need to use the pronouns bolded above. I wasn't addressing the MVC as a conference.

  15. Jay Bilas just listed Notre Dame as a team Michigan beat in a case for them to be in the tournament. Yeah, I even like Lunardi, but I think putting together a bracket in mid-January, it's tough to get rid of teams they had up high earlier, and tough to get teams in that were way out earlier. Absolutely no respect for the CAA or MVC. It's difficult to convince me that Seton Hall, Maryland, Michigan, or Florida State deserve to be in over Missouri State, George Mason, Hofstra, or Northern Iowa. Agreed, but how did the NSBB panel rank No Iowa ahead of Cuse in light of what they have dones over the last three nights? 3 nights is 3 nights. The rest of the season is different. It's like saying Temple is an at-large viable team just because they beat GW last week. Agreed. UNI is 8-7 v. the RPI top 50, Cuse 5-9. But its not just three nights. To say that is to ignore what they did. They beat Cinci - a top 30-35 RPI team; UConn, the no. 1 team in the country at that time; and Georgetown, a top 20 RPI team. What has No. Iowa done that compares to that, forgeting (which is silly) that Cuse did it over three straight nights. BTW, Bradley beat No. Iowa twice, IIRC.

  18. I think its a nice job by the Indians, but that's just me.
  19. What time? undecided on the time, its at noon right now, but that will probably change to later around 7 or 8 at night. That would be much better for me.
  20. In. As usual, the team name is: "Coached By Dusty" Its a great excuse if my team stinks.
  21. link What the [bleep]?!? Fixed. And I don't want to say "I told you so", but...
  22. If you were Dusty, how would you answer the questions about Bonds and the book. I am not looking for generalisms or philosophies. Be specific, as though you were speaking to a reporter.
  23. That is fine for you, but usually the argument is used to try to convince others to change their minds. If the book has no interest for someone, it sure doesn't make it wrong. Just because someone writes a book with their bias in mind, doesn't necessarily make it must reading. What bias do these reporters have that you know about? What is their ax to grind? I read the SI article tonight. I'll be reading the book.
  24. Damn straight. I am almost 30, and have observed a noticeable difference between my ability to recover (particularly in the lower half of my body) as I have gotten older. Imagine how that feels once you get past 35. Or 40. The better comparison pics are 98 (before he supposedly started) to 99 (the first season afte he started). Look at the back page of today's Trib. Or see below: 1998: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/1998/allstar/news/1998/07/08/all_star_post_coors/bonds_ap.jpg 1999 http://www.geocities.com/taku_bagwell/card/bondsauto.jpg Look at the difference in head size (and chest size).
  25. Read it. Liked it. Its a nice summary of the history behind steroid use in baseball, but boy does it feel old in light of recent events.
