  1. But would JH have insisted on the Phils paying some of his K? Moreover, I recall that Abreu waived his NTC only for the Mets, Yanks and Red Sox. Thus, there was nothing JH could have done to get him. Gillick must see this as a total salary dump. If the Phils don't spend some serious loot this offseason, he'll need to enter the witness protection program.
  2. If the proposed deal goes through, the Yankees will have a payroll that is more than $100M more than any other team in baseball. What a joke. Thanks God for the luxury tax! \:D/ Selected OFs by OPS: Abreu .861 Damon .827 Sheff .811 Matsui .807 Bernie .754 Melky .745 Bubba .557 Abreu's number is probably a little park-inflated compared to the other guys, but he's still a big jump over what they have. Despite Matsui's heroic comeback efforts, there is reason to doubt he'll be able to match his pre-injury performance this year. Just ask DLee. Good point.
  3. Just having him in the dugout is enough to keep him. Not if you can get a good young player for him. I love Maddux. I loved him in 89' as the Cubs won a division title for only the second time in my lifetime, and my heart was broken when that putz Himes let him go in 92'. I welled up with tears of joy when JH brought him back three years ago. But I still think we should trade him.
  4. Not so sure about that. I think that largely depends on who is looking for a 3B and is willing to shell out $12-14 mill a year for him. Obviously you could argue that both LA teams would, but I wonder about that b/c the Dodgers have a ton of money tied up in Drew, Fural, Lowe, et al., and the Halos have cheaper in-house options. We'll see.
  5. Guys with OPBs over .400 who hit from the left side and play their home games at Yankee Stadium (where the RF porch is a mere 315 feet away) do help you win, plain and simple. Money is no object for the Yankees, so please don't even bring it up.
  6. Bell doesn't seem to make much sense for them, but what do I know.
  7. Hill's lack of velocity means that he will need to learn how to pitch as opposed to just blowing guys away. He'll need to hit spots and vary speeds. Unfortunately, the only why to find out of he is capable of doing this is to keep trotting him out there.
  8. I see your point, but his OBP is over .400. Even if he hits only 20 HRs a year, what's the big deal? ARam and Lee will both hit 30 every year. That sounds like enough power.
  9. Agreed. Very goo deal for the Brew Crew. Nice job by whats-his-name.
  10. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2532028 I thought I'd read somewhere that the Bears weren't interested in Lelie. Lovie has said that he likes what he has in Moose, Bradley, Currie, et al.
  11. I am in Chicago and the ESPN feed is blacked out - what are they saying?
  12. Lets not forget Maddux was 20 and 21 in his first two years in the bigs. Hill is 26 years old. That's the other thing - he is closing in on his prime years.
  13. Look, I completely agree that we should be trotting Hill out there before Rusch. Of that I have no doubt, nor qualms. What I am trying to say is that what he is doing on the ML level is throwing up some major red flags, IMO. He reminds me a lot more of Lance Dickson than Greg Maddux. EDIT: And Wuertz needs to be up here all day.
  14. if he has trouble thowing K's he should'nt be in the bigs Then every pitcher should be in the minors, they all have games where they struggle with the strike zone. Yeah, but Hill has not been consistent enough in the strike zone to stay in the big leagues. His minor league stats are so impressive though that you know it is mental. I'm pretty sure the guy can throw strikes, he just needs the confidence that he can go out there and get the job done. Just for kicks look up Scott Ruffcorn minor league stats... just for kicks look up greg maddux's 86 and 87 stats. People keep saying that, but no one acknowledges that we are essentially comparing Hill to a once in a generation talent. Do you truly believe Hill will even approach Maddux? Isn't it more likely thaat he will be, at best, serviceable?
  15. Again, can someone opine as to why this kid's stats in AAA are so impressive but he can't anyone out in the Bigs? I mean, I would not expect him to be nearly that good here, but at least he should be solid, no?
  16. if he has trouble thowing K's he should'nt be in the bigs Then every pitcher should be in the minors, they all have games where they struggle with the strike zone. Yeah, but Hill has not been consistent enough in the strike zone to stay in the big leagues. So send him back to the big leagues to drop that sub-2 ERA, sub-1 WHIP, .171 BAA, and increase that 6/1 K/BB ratio? Or how about we let him try to improve his control at the big leagues. I mean, we could always send Rusch back out there. This has nothing to do with Rusch. At what point do you conclude that he doesn't have the stomach for the Bigs? Probably not now, but when?
  17. Can somone explain to me why this kid can't get MLers out?
  18. He might as well manage out the year. This is so frustrating.
  19. Jurko is speculating that this is a cover up and that Jones will be traded soon.
  20. GIS for "props": http://www.foamprops.com/images/homepage/boy.gif
  21. Tick Tock Raisin, Tick Tock. why are you putting all that pressure on him? he'll propose to you when he's good and ready. By all means marry. If you get a good wife, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher. -- Socrates
  22. Says: - Soriano will be in Det. - Lee will go to Minni. - Abreu will be a Yankee. EDIT: He is also hearing that the Red Sox are trying like heck to create a three-way deal.
  23. while I don't want yet another injury riddled season for yet another one of my teams, this could be a blessing in disguise. positional controversies in training camp tend to tear teams apart . this goes along way to eliminating said controversy which was already starting to bubble over. Good point. If he misses time I will be sad because I'll miss his enourmous arms. http://widewordofsports.com/images-thomas%20jones2.JPG Sick.
