  1. Levin says he has heard Izturis, but no confirmation yet. Kill me now. :headz:
  2. You're probably right, its just a shame that we can't get any immediate value for our MLers. Well, any immediate value we were going to get was going to be very mediocre. It looks like Hendry found someone who at least has a chance to be something special. The reports that Jon posted leave me with that impression also.
  3. Exactly. Why are people continuously thinking that a guy the Cubs signed for cheap and had no interest from teams 2 years ago, had no interest this offseason when the Cubs were knowingly trying to get rid of him, and has had a down power year was gonna bring back something of substance? Same with the Williamson deal. Hard to disagree, especially on the Williams deal.
  4. You're probably right, its just a shame that we can't get any immediate value for our MLers.
  5. Ugh. Well at least he strikes a lot of guys out? What a mess.
  6. Hendry needs to go. Before I jump on the pile, who is this Ceda kid?
  7. Richard Justice, the Houston reporter who broke the "Trade Lidge" story, is on the DPS and reporting that Clemens went to McClane and demanded that he do something to turn the team around.
  8. I'm willing to bet the well will run dry at this point  So they will trade for Tim Raines Jr. :puke: :D
  9. Levine says the Walker deal is nearly done, for a "minor leaguer".
  10. ESPN Insider reporting that three seperate sources have confirmed that the Pirates will send Kip Wells to Red Sox, a deal that could be announced very soon. Unknown who the Bucs are getting in return.
  11. 1) your avatar scared the living crap out of me 2) Nobody is discounting Maddux possibly having a positive effect on our young pitchers, but the season is basically over. He's overpaid for his production and declining. We have a perfect opportunity to get something of value for him instead of just letting him walk. We'd have to offer arby to get draft picks for him, and I'm not sure that's a risk you want to take. Sentiment will get you 0 wins in 2007. I thought we had seen the last of him. At least he's wearing the colors of a now defunct team.
  12. FYI - Lidge will be on the The Dan Patrick Show soon. I'll try to post a recap if I can. EDIT: He'll apparently be on after the 1:40 (central time) update. I may not be around my radio then, so if someone else listens, please post here.
  13. I think it's pointless to look back and try and find good moves and bad moves. What matters is the big picture. A general manager's job is big picture. If the team sucks, it's his fault. You can't really get pissed at a GM who builds a 91 win team that falls a game short. But when you have an upper echelon payroll and build two consecutive horrible teams, you've done a horrible job. Trying to look at a deal or two that weren't all that bad on the surface is pointless. I don't know if its "pointless", but I agree with everything else you posted. I gave Jim a one-time pass in 05' b/c he had built up a team that should have won in 04' and looked like it was well on its wau. However, he has used up his free passes with me after watching the team he built for this season.
  14. It seems the air in Houston has savaged Mr. McClane's cognitive abilities. Either that or he realizes his team stinks and he wants to save money.
  15. Well that should do loads for his trade value. That's straight from the Sammy Sosa/Corey patterson school of trading. With little more than 3 hours to do it. Right now Purpura is wondering why he accepted this job.
  16. This is a case of quantity over quality.
  17. How about Josh Fields for Murton and McClain, and then we trade ARam for Aybar and Santana. Then we will resign ARam during the offseason and move Fields to LF. How you like dem apples?
  18. A guy in my office (Tigers fan) is speculating that Shelton could be part of a package for Soriano. If so, I would guess Shelton would play in LF in D.C. b/c Johnson is firmly entrenched at 1B.
  19. I read that too. Not a bad move by Beane since they won't have to worry about his contract next year and they are struggling to score runs. They are a bit thin in ML-ready prospects though, and all indications are that Bowden wants the sun, moon and stars.
  20. I read that Oswalt was discussed only with the O's in a deal for Miggy, and even then, since Roy is in his walk year, the O's didn't want to do the deal unless they could spin Oswalt off some where else. This after the O's turned down the Aybar-Santana deal with the Halos. Conclusion: The O's are on crack, and the Stros must have some understanding with Clemens that he won't be dealt, because they are going nowhere.
  21. I don't want to see them do better. I think Coletti overvalues Maddux, and I hope he makes us happy because of it. Agreed. Let Coletti do the thinking with his heart instead of that lump three feet above his you-know-what.
  22. If JH really believes that he has the inside track on resigning A-Ram regardless, then he needs to do this trade.
  23. The implications of this deal make my head hurt. If ARam is going to opt out, I say do the deal. If there's any chance of resigning him, do it, and then please grab either Lee or Soriano in the offseason: CF? LF: Lee/Soriano RF: Jones 3B: ARam 1B: Lee SS: Aybar 2B: Cedeno C: Barrett Not bad. Leaves Murton as a 4th OF / platoon partner with Jones, or you can use him as trade bait for another SP and/or a CFer.
  24. That's a different story, I think. Soriano is in his walk year, so the Nats aren't encumbered by his salary in 07' the way the Phils would have been with Abreu. Bowden can get a lot more, especially relative to his production this year.
