  1. Pie scares me. I hate hitching our wagons to one kid; we don't have too many other position players of note in the system. If someone like Dunn or Jones could be had for Pie, I'd do it without regret.
  2. I wouldn't want Bruce to write for that rag.
  3. If I am Jim I make a big time play here. Pie and pick any one of the following: Hill, Marmol, Gallagher, Guzman and Ryu. Its a salry dump, so if we eat the contract, they should take fewer prospects.
  4. How much do we stand to lose (financially) if we DFA him in the offseason?
  5. What about using Dempster as part of a package to get something we need - like another starter, a corner OF or a middle infielder who can hit - and re-sign Wood at 1 yr and 2 mill with incentives tied to appearances and saves? If Wood falls on his face or gets hurt, you have several candidates to replace him - Howry, Eyre, Wuertz, etc.
  6. After what Jones has been through here in his first year, think there is any chance he'll ask to be dealt during the Winter? I assume that is not a realistic possibility.
  7. Hope so. The Bulls have 4 second round picks for next year. You could almost fill the court with all those Kalid El-Amins!
  8. That's nice, but he doesn't get on base nearly enough. No thanks.
  9. According to The Fielding Bible, Byrnes is above average in LF. PMR agrees with that as well. I was going to comment that he has looked pretty good in CF so far in this series, but there you go.
  10. Lee and Abreu would work. Tejada and Abreu would work. I could also live with Lee and Tejada, though I know many here could not.
  11. Yeah, I can't understand why anybody would even consider Pierre at $5-8m over Byrnes at $3-4m. Agreed. .350 OBP with pop (the HR he hit two nights ago still has't landed) and decent speed at 3-4 mill. Sounds like a nice fill-in until Pie is ready.
  12. Hoffpauir is hitting around .250 at AAA after his hot start...he's really been struggling. I wouldn't call him up. I would trade Nevin a.s.a.p. to get full "value" (if he is added after 9/1 he would not be eligible for the playoff roster), tread water with Mabry until September 1, and call up Hoffpaur for a look. One month wouldn't hurt him, I don't think. If he plays well, his trade value goes way up going into the offseason. Definitely a high risk- high reward issue.
  13. Eisley's contract wasn't guaranteed. The Bulls traded Smith and waived Eisley to make room for Griffin's salary and open up a roster spot for Adrian. Right, they wanted the draft picks but had to take the player, so they dumped the player right after acquiring him. They actually wanted that player because they could dump him after clearing Smith's salary. The two second-round picks will be lucky to make the Bulls roster next year. Basically they traded JR Smith for Adrian Griffin, but you never know: One of those two second rounders could be used in a future deal.
  14. Mean People Suck.
  15. Um, yes you did. Well, fine, you got me. Everyone is imperfect except myself. I am god. Happy? My point was that if I complain, it's due to the lack of optomism on this board in general. When other people complain, it's over the sky being blue or water being wet, whatever the current topic of the day is. You might want to qualify your commentary in the future with, "it seems like", or, "lately". BTW, who cares if Mabry plays first because we trade Nevin? Do you see this team going somewhere I do not?
  16. We ruined him? Does anyone have to take responsibility for their own career after leaving the Cubs? I wouldn't mind having Choi back (to play where I have no idea), but his slugging is pretty poor for a 1B.
  17. Oohhh, didnt even think about that... That is an amazing point. But why trade for him when you get him as an FA this winter? I'd hate to rent him in a season that was long ago lost and have to give up something like Marmol and Hill to do so.
  18. I got that impression also. It looks like the the first step was acquiring Cesar. I guess we will see.
  19. I really think Ronny is not going to be here next season. Call it a hunch, but it makes a lot of sense when you really think about it.
  20. Anyone have a link to the exact quotes? he said something to the effect of when you get a bad night's sleep it effects you for days thereafter b/c of all the day games.
  21. On the Salisbury-Rosenbloom "show" (quotes used b/c the show is horrendous, but I use it for background noise). I'll try and post a recap, even though he likely won't say anything worth reading. BTW, this is the most Hendry has made himself available in a long time. Like a politician trying to convince his base that everything is going to be "OK". You can listen at ESPN Radio 1000's website, by the way.
  22. Didn't we actually spend less this year than last year? And this year's team will lose 100 games as opposed to just 90-something. Makes sense.
  23. They ought to ban your sig. :club:
