  1. That was the one inning I missed - can someone post a video of the pitch or the sequence? I recall Floyd had a strike called on him (IIRC the inning before the Everett AB) that I thought was at least a few inches off the plate, but the trouble with judging balls and strikes on t.v. is that it is difficult to see where the ball crosses the plate. The catcher can fool you if he catches it in what appears to be the zone, but my understanding is that the ump is looking for where the ball crosses, not where the catcher receives it (or at least he/she should be).
  2. Well said. I must admit I was initially skeptical with respect to Wuertz, but he has won me over. I think Eyre and Howry might be good trade bait in light of overall relief pitching depth, especially if Woody comes back healthy and Ryan continues to look as good as he did in his short appearance yesterday.
  3. People forget that he was pretty dominant for a couple of yrs prior to becoming an FA. He and Neagle were never the same after picthing at Coors for a couple of years. Both of them shredded their arms pitching there, I think. The Braves got him on the relative cheap, IIRC, b/c he was acquired through FL who (incredibly) picked up part of his contract. In any case, it seems like wasted potential. His career is very likely over, I would think.
  4. Wolf - I think Wainwright can be as good as Carp. based on what I have seen. Do Cards fans / analysts share my assesment?
  5. Murton hasn't looked too great at the plate yet, but its six games in. I have been happy with how Lou has handled the lineup so far.
  6. DeRosa is the new Merker. He'll have a steel cage match with Len by Memorial Day; mark it down. :)
  7. I'd trade Barrett for the right price. But that price would have to include a serviceable catcher in return, and I don't know who that might be.
  8. I think only b/c Lou gave Barrett the day off. Murt dropped down to the six hole. That said, I'd rather see DeRosa hitting second if my options are he and Izzy.
  9. I think you may be correct, however, I am hoping that, like the 04' lineup, we can make up for it with increased depth and better hitters overall. But who knows...
  10. Grady update: HR RBI SB AVG OBP SLG 3 4 0 .438 .500 1.000 A G-d amongst insects. And TT - thanks for the props on the Akron bobblehead. I chose it b/c it looked most like the sort of idol one might worship.
  11. I support this opinion. Third.
  12. My son will be 4 in Sept. I am toying with the idea of taking him b/c my first game was when I was 4.5. I will probably wait till next Summer though.
  13. I agree with what you are saying, but experience tells me that otherwise intelligent business people often cut off their noses to spit ethier faces, and purely for personal reasons. He who sets out for revenge should first dig two graves.
  14. Hey, I hope Gammons is wrong, but he has credibility in my book.
  15. I think is a very cool idea and a nice way to educate youngsters (and some of the players too).
  16. This has anti-trust suit written all over it. I'm not sure if it is worth it to Cuban though. Not sure about that. I am not very familiar with anti-trust law, but people ding each other in business for personal reasons all the time.
  17. Well Reinsdorf influence didn't keep Mark away in Basketball? BTW - Another reason I hate the W.Sox. Apples and oranges according to Gammons. MLB is a very different network of ownership, and for its it worth, he said that Reinsdorf "warned" the NBA but did not fight. He believes Reinsdorf will fight here and that he swings a much heavier stick with his fellow owners in MLB, and Selig in particular. I think Gammons has much credibility in this respect.
  18. FYI: Gammons reiterated on Mike & Mike this morning that MLB will not accept any bid put together by Cuban, and that Reinsdorf has much influence in that regard. Also noted that Collangelo would have no such problem, but that he (Gammons) doesn't know where Jerry would get the money.
  19. Larry Anderson for Jeff Bagwell Ivan DeJesus for.... <---------------------------- (no, not Phil Jackson)
  20. Grady hit a HR for the third straight game this afternoon vs. the Pale Hose. I think he's my fave non-Cub. Let's all just show our appreciation for this highly skilled, spirited ballplayer who is really fun to watch. Forget Mercker - all hail Grady! http://www.skiltech.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000006/grady.jpg
  21. If Marquis gives us avg of 7 innings, giving up 3 runs, I will be happy.
  22. He may have just wanted to get his head straight after the disappointment of not making the opening day roster. Let's give him a chance and see how he behaves.
  23. But there are other owners who might see it as a good thing to have him as well because he brings competitiveness and a winning Cubs team would be good for all of baseball. Revenues go up for every team when a flagship franchise does well. The same reports indicate that Reinsdorf has the clout to swing many votes.
  24. I have heard in several places that the major issue will be the owners approving whoever comes up with the largest bid. For example, it is believed by some that Reinsdorf so hates Cuban due to their running NBA feud that he might attempt to clock Mark from acquiring the team.
