  1. This blows, but isn't the end of the world. It's not that big a downgrade from 2005, in which the baseball player formerly known as Larry Walker played right field. Still don't know why Jocketty didn't just resign Sanders to a one or two year deal. Even at his age he's still better than Encarnacion.
  2. At least bad pitching always beats bad hitting. Cubs, consider the Jacque Jones trade officially parried. Here's a thought, instead of trading Marquis for a corner outfielder, we should just make him a corner outfielder. How bout' an outfield of Ankiel, Edmonds, and Marquis? Preettty, preettty, preettty, prettty, pretty good.
  3. I vote yes, for obvious reasons.
  4. Ha! I'm just glad the Cards didn't sign him.
  5. Ponson probably won't even make it out of spring training. The only way I like this deal is if it allows us to trade for an impact corner outfielder. Otherwise Ponson is a fat alcoholic waste of space and I would much rather see Reyes get his chance.
  6. Looking at Drew's career he has alternated betwee seasons of 140sh games to 100ish games. Hes due up for another 140ish season. I'll take it! Just say no to JD. He will only break your heart. One moment he will wow you with displays of pure baseball brilliance, but then he will spend the next two weeks on the DL with a strained left earlobe. Sanders, however, would be a solid pickup for any team's corner outfield, at the right price. He was having a 30-30 season before he crashed into Edmonds during the first game after the all-star break and broke his leg. He got hot again just in time to personally defeat the Padres in the NLDS, only to again get freak injured in the outfield incident of Fark.com photoshop fame.
  7. Perez is a great addition to any bench. The Cards should bring him back to platoon the outfield with Gooch and John Rodriguez. I hope Jocketty checks in on NSBB once in a while.
  8. To be fair, Bo did have a spectacular offensive and defensive month that justified his adoration beyond his WHUFF status. But then his production dropped off the face of the earth . . .
  9. With what resources? Right now at OF, there is little supply, greater demand, and a higher price since the supply can't meet the demand. 2B- There's no supply, somewhat of a demand unless you're comfortable with Luna, and once again no money. Last year, when he got Grudzielanek, Eckstein, and Molina, they was decent quailty avail. as well as the money to get them or in the case of Molina slide him in there. Don't forget Bo Hart! The fans love him! What fans? Cardinal fans think he's horrible. Unfortunetaly, he is.
  10. Ha! Missourians said "screw you" when billionaires attempted to strong arm the taxpayers into financing a new stadium, the only purpose of which is to increase revenue for said billionaires. Don't get me wrong, I love the Cardinals with all my heart, but tax money, especially in a time of huge budget deficits, should not go to building cash cows for private billionaires and their millionaire employees. The city of St. Louis will benefit greatly from the new stadium. Don't kid yourself. The owners are to thank for that. You're one of those people who wants nothing but the very best, as long as somebody else is paying for it. You mean like it benefitted greatly from Busch II, the purported savior of downtown St. Louis? Oh, wait. Don't forget, the Cardinals did get over $100 million from the city, county, and state in various bond sales and tax apportionments. Does that count as a "screw you?" You should do some research on how publicly financing new stadiums has revitilized urban areas. I'll save you the time; it rarely does. You're one of those people who would probably let the local school district cancel after school programs because of budget shortfalls in favor of a tax cut for the rich. Illinois was willing to pay for a stadium for the Cardinals. You think there might be a reason for that? Busch Stadium actually DID revitalize downtown St. Louis. The point is that the owners are building a new stadium, have raised payroll to the point of being in the top 6 in all of baseball (despite being bottom 1/3 in market size), have consistently put a high-level product on the field, etc. Yet for some people, it will never be enough. Personally, I'd rather have them continue to spend the money wisely (which they have done), rather than simply spend more of it. It's THEIR money. THEY are the ones making the investment, and reports say that they lost money every year until last year. If they want to pocket a little bit, then so what? Wouldn't you? Hey........ there's any idea!! You figure out a way to making billions of dollars, then YOU can show us how to run a baseball team. It's always fun spending money......... when it's somebody else's money. Do you live in St. Louis? Is there any way that downtown St. Louis can be construed as vitalized? Personally, I think the owners are great. They have done a tremendous job since they bought the team. I'm glad they didn't give Burnett 5/55. I'm glad they're building a new stadium. Nowhere in my posts did I tell them how to spend their money. All I said was that the stadium should not have been financed with tax dollars. But had it been, would you be saying that the people of Missouri should be allowed to vote on Cardinals' team moves? Because it would then be THEIR money that built the stadium.
  11. Yeah, I grew up in STL and I say soda. Anyone who says "pop" is just flat wrong, by the way. Get with the times people.

Selig's mafia will be by soon to silence you. If I don't post for a few days somebody tell the police who did it. And if I have to sacrifice my life so that Selig can never install the DH in the NL, I will not have lived in vain.

  15. This Cards fan feels lied to. We'll see what Walt can pull out of his bag o' tricks to make up for it. I'm not optimistic.
  16. Is that pic (avatar) you? yes Wow! Sorry, I had to... LOL, shhhh :-$ Haven't I seen this picture on Cards Talk?
  17. I guess it's a question of how much is a real shot at a WS worth to Burnett. For a difference of $5-$10 million I would go where I might actually get to win a WS or two. $50 million is already enough money for multiple lifetimes.
  18. If we're signing him to a minor league deal I think it's worth a shot. But if we're betting on him being our starting 2nd baseman I think it's terrible. What happened to that rumor about signing Bill Mueller from Boston and moving him to 2nd?
  19. I've got to stop coming to this forum. Every day there's a new rumor about the Cards going after some POS free agent. This better not be true. Vance, do you mean all those hot models and actresses that Jagger has dated or been married to over the years?
  20. Yeah, right. You expect us to believe that you didn't recognize Julian Tavarez the moment you saw him?
  21. With the combination of Walker retiring and Morris, hopefully, going elsewhere I'm praying that the Cards can sign Giles and Burnett. To do this Jocketty trades Marquis, saving about 5 million, and brings Reyes up. Carpenter Mulder Burnett Suppan Reyes That could be an awesome rotation.
  22. Wow, they really should have imploded the sucka. That wrecking ball is doing nothing. They would be better off handing out a thousand sledge hammers and just letting the public go to town.
  23. hyperbole If Prior, Z and Wood are all healthy, the Cubs can beat anyone. That's proven to be a big if. very big if. It's also a very big if that Rolen and Edmonds will stay healthy for an entire year or that the Cards' bullpen will remain solid. Or that the Cards rotation will remain healthy for that matter. I'd just like to remind everyone that Rolen was injured because of a freak collision. He is NOT an injury prone player. And while Edmonds had a down year compared to the last two years he still played in 142 games and put up a .918 OPS. Rolen had back problems on a couple of occasions in Philly. Once someone has had back problems, they're always susceptible to more. yes, and he's had them while in st. louis too, but it rarely takes him out of the linuep.
