  1. Read something in Monday' USA Today apparently, the Wings are going to have only around 4 million in cap space this off season. If that's true I gotta believe one or more of Hossa, Hudler or, I can't remember if the other name FA was Stuart or Samuelsson, is gone. Of course, my arrogant Wings fan mother-in-law thinks they'll all resign for a combined 1 million!
  2. Maybe my math is off, but 10-11 doesn't look like a .784 winning percentage to me. ;) I was going to highlight the same line, I don't know Fred will enough to joke with him. But given Fred was there in 1907 you'd think it'd be correct. ;)
  3. 8 for me, Der Sting in 1981, remember how desperate Chicago was for any kind of a championship in '81?
  4. I believe this is a great idea, with Fox in LF do we really lose that much defensively? At least there's a good chance Fox will do things like hustle after gb's.
  5. If it’s true the Rockies are desperate to dump Atkins, Hendry should take a flier. Something like taking his contract off the books may be all that's necessary perhaps; the pending sale has held Hendry up. If not Atkins, why not take a chance on Branyan, if neither work out, it won't be any change from what the Cubs are getting now at 3B - a whole lot of nothing.
  6. A few things that ticked me off, walking Pence not once but, twice, he swings at anything close and Lee' gb single, I'm thinking a SS with average range would had that ball.
  7. Look at Wandys last 3 outings, Id say its already been fixed. Lets just hope he keeps on that trend and doesnt go back to the early season Wandy. Unfortunately, it's not just early season Wandy. 2007 home: 95.0 IP, 2.94 ERA 2008 home: 81 1/3 IP, 2.99 ERA 2009 home: 39.0 IP, 2.31 ERA Wandy at MMP is a really bad matchup. He has seemingly figured out how to pitch to take the best advantage of the strange dimensions in that ballpark. Hopefully the Cubs can keep it close and scratch a few across against him. His recent starts do encourage a little bit although just one was at home. His last outing against a terrible Rockies team in MMP his line was 5 inn 10 hits 7 ER. Add that into his previous 2 starts when he didnt make it past the 5th inning, I like our chances against him right now. Plus Bradley gets to bat RH which is always a plus. Unless, of course, he somehow manages to pull muscle X while walking to the batters' box.
  8. Seriously. Actually no offense, I can't believe a die hard Hawks fan would be cheering for the Wings. I'm sure you understand what I'm saying. As an example from another sport, you could have threatened my life and I still would have cheered against the Packers in the 2007 NFC Championship game. There was nothing that would get me to root for the Packers. Its akin to a Cubs fan rooting for the Cardinals, the only circumstance I would cheer for the Red Wings is if they were matched against a group of aliens for the fate of Earth - maybe.
  9. Caught B&B the other day, they must filter the callers seeking those that are going to say things for B&B to ridicule on air. One fellow claimed the Bears mortgaged too much of their future in trading for Cutler another was picking out individual Cutler statistics claiming the Bears were better off with Orton, in both cases B&B had a field day. All I know is it's sure going to be refreshing to see a Bear QB hitting his receivers in stride most of the time this fall.
  10. Correct, Turner played a role, as did Angelo by letting the line deteriorate. But it sure as hell wasn't the fans' fault that Grossman crapped the bed, especially when so much of that defacation was on the road. Hell, he couldn't handle or execute basic QB - get the snap from the center - on a consistent basis.
  11. Is something like the following possible? Cubs offer to pick up Atkins and his contract thereby, taking the money off Colorado' books, and a PTBNL. The Rockies get the PTBNL if Aktins performs otherwise, it just the money off the books.
  12. Is no Datsyuk starting to catch up with the Wings? This is in no way detrimental but, a good portion of Wings goals have been of the bad bounce for the opposition and good bounce for them variety - I known a good portion of goals are scored this way. However, it seems Wings offense has consisted primarily of this, which can turn on a dime, eventually, you're going to need the play makers like Datsyuk.
  13. Has anyone grown frustrated of the apparent fragile-ness of baseball players most especially this year' Cubs? I certainly have, seriously, I never seen a group of players get hurt so often by simply breathing.
  14. I believe the time has come for either sending Soto to the DL or Iowa in both cases he's got to be informed in no uncertain terms to get in shape.
  15. I think I mentioned somewhere after both games that the Wings have been fortunate to win. I dont think they have been outplayed, but they havent outplayed Pittsburgh either. They have gotten the more of the lucky bounces. Maybe I am just a homer, but I surely have picked up on an Detroit gets away with stuff theme that NBC(Enzo) and ESPN have picked up. I generally dont complain that much about officiating and announcing, but I would hope when Enzo's 2 favorite teams(pen/hawks) make/win the cup the announcers point out the merit of the victory, not the bending of the rules. If Detroit was getting away with stuff that no one else was doing, then fine. The "subtle" interference is common practice in the NHL, so it is very unprofessional of Enzo to make a Detroit issue about it late in the playoffs I think the thing that bothers me the most is that I have defended Olcyzck before to Wings fans for being a pretty even headed announcer...He is really disappointing me in this finals though I wonder if it's more an outgrowth of people growing tried of the same team winning most of the time? I don't know for certain but, it's probably not a reach that people felt the same way about the Habs in the 60's and 70's. I'd sure like to hear/see the Black Hawks with such a "problem" in a few years and someday maybe our Cubbies - different context but, the same problem media, etc. tried of their success, looking for reasons beyond the rule book why they're so good, etc.
  16. There's one thing you've got to admit - the Wings have had a tremendous amount of good luck lately. What lose puck hasn't bounced their way or into the opponents goal?
  17. At least you're willing to admit some of your Red Wings embellish penalties and deliver questionable hits which is more than I can see for most Red Wing fans.
  18. As terrible has its been I look up and see the Cubs only 3 games behind in the lose column and this is with the Cards and Brewers going through hot streaks. A healthy Cub team is going eat this NL Central up.
  19. That could have been one of cheapest goals I've ever seen.
  20. Sooner or later one of those Wings is going to get laid out by such a shot.
  21. I've been taking a lot of crap from Wings' die hard mother-in-law and sister-in-law about Kronwal' "clean" hit on Halvat, not only do I want to see the Penguins win. But, I'd like to see one of your diving Swedes get smeared in the process - cleanly of course.
  22. Worse, if one believes the scouting reports. What about LF? I thinking he, unlike, Soriano may be actually able to cleanly field gb's that make it out to LF.
  23. What about Fox today at 1B? Based upon what I saw yesterday he's locked in and would destroy someone like Wolf.
  24. I'll watch if the series goes deep, or if I'm sitting around and there is nothing else on. But yeah, I'm pretty burned out and don't think I can watch hockey at this point without having a big rooting interest. Rooting against Detroit only takes me so far. When the Red Wings have lost in the conference finals, I barely even paid attention to the finals. When they lose earlier in the playoffs, I usually take a round off and then get back into it. I certainly understand Hawks fans not wanting to watch the finals at this point. I also didnt watch the WS in 2003 Should your Wings win the Cup I believe they ought to consider sending Brian Campbell a note of thanks. The Wings were going to win the series, no doubt, but, he sure made a little easier for them.
