  1. Yep, the '27 Yankees and some of those '30's ear Philadelphia A's teams pale in comparison.
  2. How about an off season philosophy of looking at your core and then trying to improve it with good baseball players? Not left handed, or glove men, or speedy guys but, good baseball players.
  3. I'll acknowledge the Cardinals are good but, superior talent? Come on. Lohse, Wellemeyer, Pinerio, Lugo, Thurston basically, anyone not named Pujols, Wainwright, Carpenter or Holliday are not good or superior at anything.
  4. Saw some of the highlights, wow, is CB Buckner is terrible, didn't realize how bad he was. Missed two fairly easy calls the past two nights.
  5. Marquis, I hope the Rockies aren't foolish to count on him in playoffs.
  6. Seconded about Uggla, sure he'll hit a few HR's but, I never considered him to be a very good hitter.
  7. I know you previously mentioned 2006 but, even this kind of crap has a way turning around in the playoffs. Wouldn't be one bit surprised if they lose a few games in a similar manner.
  8. I know there may be references to 2006 but, all those journey-men garbage arms pitching out their collective minds are going to implode in the playoffs - provided they make the playoffs. That smoke and mirrors act has a funny way of turning around in the playoffs, seen it time and time again.
  9. What about Tejada? He's a FA, he's got way more in the tank than Soriano, for year or two he could take care of offense from the SS. Given he's a FA next season I wonder if the Astros would be interested in moving him now.
  10. I don't believe Fukudome is or has been the problem, its the complete lack of production from Soto, Soriano and 2b. Add Soto with a little more luck and anything from Soriano or 2b and I believe the Cardinals would been looking up at the Cubs.
  11. Soto' numbers are unbelievable, it seems like every time he's smoked the ball its right at someone. Last night was a prime example, he crushed that ball (think it was 3rd), if he pulled slightly would have probably been a bases clearing double.
  12. Did anyone who remained up and watched this clunker find themselves wishing the season was over after Blanks inside the park HR? It was the perfect ending to the night in which Lou showed he's mailed in for the season, that terrible, blown call at 1b was the perfect opportunity for him to show some fire, that he's not going to let this bs of season get to him or give up.
  13. I think we've learned how this season is going to end by the very fact that Lou just sat on his fat ass after Buckner blatantly missed the call at 1b. By the way, think anyone (besides Dempster) on the Cubs staff has figured out Blanks can only hit one pitch?
  14. Removing Gregg from the closers roll could be a step in this direction although, it's going to take some doing on Lou's part to keep him from hurting the Cubs. Perhaps, he be used in a mop up roll the rest of the way because, I don't think DFA' is a realistic option. Soriano getting hot for the last two months could help along with Soto hell, I'd take just one of them getting hot.
  15. The most irritating facet of the night was the BB to Eckstein, that was unforgivable, how do you walk that little sh*t? Why didn't he just throw the ball down the middle of the plate - here it is ,you little sh*t, hit it is as hard as you can. By the way the Cubs are going to get swept in SD again, book it.
  16. I'd let him walk, as illogical as it sounds this is the Cubs and should they re-sign him he'll spend most of the season on the DL, take the picks.
  17. Did you miss '06? You're right, what am I talking about, Franklin will probably set some kind of a post season save record along with Lohse and Pineiro throwing a combined 18 or so shutout innings.
  18. Because the Padres and Dodgers are guaranteed to play all-world baseball against the Cubs after quietly laying down and letting the Cardinals have their way with them. Remember, they got swept by the crap on a stick that is the Padres in July, wouldn't shock me a bit if the Padres managed to all of sudden quit struggling vs the Cubs.
  19. I guarentee you, Cardinals pixie dust or not, Lohse, Wellemeyer, Franklin, Pineiro, ie anyone not named Carpenter or Wainwright will implode in the playoffs. Holliday and Lugo both OPSing 1.200 or whatever, this is baseball, and sooner or later regression to the mean will play a role wouldn't suprise me a bit if they went stone cold in the palyoffs. Same applies to the Rockies, Marquis? Yeah, he'll get destroyed in the playoffs.
  20. What is it about the Cubs and crappy hitting catchers? Why can't they get them out?
  21. Kent played 269 games in the minors at second base and started 1,986 games in the majors there. UZR has him as a -8 UZR/150 defender there. Fox has never played a professional inning at second base. It's not something you can pick up over an offseason when you've never played there in your life. OK so it was a completely far-fetched, unrealistic idea but, there are some things I believe I know about the 2010 Cubs: 1. Unless they're released nobody' going to trade for Miles or Fontenot 2. Nobody' going to trade for Soriano - he's here for 2010 like it or not
  22. Why not see what Fox can do at 2B? I don't have the defensive numbers in front of me but, if Jeff Kent could play 2B there's no reason Fox couldn't do at least as well. Fox at 2B gets Fontenot out of the lineup and back on the bench - where he could excel once again. The rest of the lineup is going to remain the same. I believe we'll see improvements from Fukudome and Bradley add a healthy Ramirez and Soto along with Lee being Lee and the Cubs will improve significantly. With the above in hand maybe Soriano could be moved to the 7 spot, besides left out, where can he do the least amount of damage? 7 or 8?
  23. Hey, look on the bright side, at least, Marmol didn't walk anyone last night.
  24. Embedded quote constraint got me but, wasn't it someone named Victor Diaz? An OF who, ironically, was graduate of Chicago Vocational School (CVS).
  25. If the Bears could somehow generate a consistent pass rush many of the concerns/problems with the secondary could disappear. But, as excited as I am about the very real prospect of the Bears having a competent offense, I'm not so about the DL. New coach or not, they couldn't get to the QB last year, now, they're year older and I don't see them getting to the QB.
