  1. 'Bout time the Hawks hammered the Stars!
  2. The pitchers walking the world and throwing BP was pretty bad however, the most upsetting aspect of yesterday' game may have been the defense. Theriot playing a pop-up into a hit, Lee with whatever that was on the attempted F3-F1, Zambrano' throw into the stands on Prado advancing to 3B. We saw too much of that stupid [expletive] last year and here we are, seeing it on opening day.
  3. It appears to me that the Blackhawks will have some tough cap decisions to make but, in no way shape or form was this season a one-time all or nothing shot at the Cup. My mother-in-law and her father, both diehard Red Wing fans, keep insistng this is situation with the Hawks. Of course, they also insist the Red Wings recent streak of 19 playoff appearances is some kind of a professional sports record - it's not even close - Bruins 29 straight years. Happily, they'll be disappointed to learn the Hawks will be very good next season as well.
  4. Holy jump to conclusions, Batman. Look, Soriano has his obvious flaws and is overpaid, but it's ridiculous to act like he's already a non-factor this season when he's played one game against a pitcher who would eat him alive even if Soriano was even in the middle of one of his hot streaks. How long does he have to crap the bed before this becomes a reality? I may be jumping to conclusions as well but, he was terrible in spring, pathetic today. I don't think it's far-fetched to conclude he's nearly done and a liablity. Is this serious? THEY'VE PLAYED ONE GAME. Lee, Aramis and Soto sucked in spring training, too, so you better get their replacements lined up as well. He's coming back from a season that he played most of while hurt and he's played one game against a pitcher he likely has little chance against even at his best. To be a liability he'd have to go on a stretch of crappy games at least longer than his usual cold streaks. Deciding that they need to think about benching him after the first game of the season is absurd. Agreed I'm being a bit irrattional, give him a chance maybe he'll rebound, I guess, we can only hope.
  5. you know what gets old even quicker? people who have no connection to duke or the ACC or the southeast hating duke with a passion for no reason. I have no connection to the ACC, but can't I hate Duke with a passion because Coach K is scum? I was going to ask a similar question as well.
  6. And it looks like he got it without comitting a foul which is astonishing in itself.
  7. Oh, you're a [expletive] dead man. Maybe when Scheyer making one of his faces and ssr is taking a dump.

  9. There's an excellent chance that's true, he slow spot up shooter, they don't get drafted by the NBA.
  10. It really sucks when a POS like Coach K wins.
  11. Giving up on Soriano after one game? You know, Colvin didn't get a hit in his at bat either. Keeping in mind I don't know Nady' health status, I'd say there's a fair chance he or Colvin will starting in LF within a month.
  12. Oh, c'mon. You know very well -- in fact, I think you've even mentioned it before -- that many of Duke's McDonald's All-Americans are such because they are committed to Duke, not because they're actually worthy (the same principle often applies to actual rankings, as well). Further, while it's hilarious to say "Duke hasn't been to the Final Four since 2004, ahahah" -- what a loser, he went five whole seasons without a Final Four -- Duke won 27-32-22-28-30 games over that stretch. Barnes has had four double-digit losses in the last six years, Coach K has had two since 1984 (not including the partial season he missed due to his back). I'd also argue Barnes has had more actual talent over the past six-eight years. This is a really stupid comparison and I'm going to stop now. You got me on your first point. All I can really argue with in this post is his ludicrous my team sucks so I'm getting back surgery and putting all the losses on this fall guy. [expletive] you K Yeah, i pretty much lost all respect for K after that. Let's not forget the profanity laced triade he unleashed on William Avery' mom after he left early for the NBA. Funny when Vitale' creaming in his paints over Duke and Coach K he never considers that as well.
  13. Dusty Byfuglien is leading the Hawks in shots tonight, do Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews still play for the Hawks? Seems to me Kane and Toews have been invisible for near a month now.
  14. He chose Duke over Illinois. You would have done the same. I don't think I would have, grew up an Illini fan, had and still have a strong dislike for Duke, just don't see me picking Duke over Illinois.
  15. George Mason, maybe. It wouldn't have an impact on Butler this year or next year. They shouldn't really be mentioned with George Mason. Butler would have had a bye this year into the 64 anyways. As far as Sweet 16's it all depends on who they give the byes to and how they sort it out with the last 64. You're right, Butler is damn good and shouldn't be considered a surprise FF contestant, I was trying to get at the Cinderella factor a 96 team tournament is going to kill it.
  16. Interesting they had Felipe Lopez as a possible bust for the Cards, I would have nominated Ryan Franklin. Closers with stuff as ordinary and hittable as Franklin don't sustain success, had a 2009 .269 BABIP and was definitely the beneficiary of some good luck. I'll take our bust candidate Marmol over sure thing Ryan Franklin any day of the week.
  17. A 96 team tournament is going to drastically reduce the chances of the mid-majors, more games to play, eventually, the mid-major will be knocked out. No more Butler or George Mason, etc., Sweet 16's, Final Fours - I believe this faction of tournament lends to its popularity.
  18. Some Duke/Scheyer fluff - http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-spt-0330-haugh-jon-scheyer--20100329,0,3157171.story By the way, I'll boo and dislike Scheyer if want to and I do, he didn't go Illinois and that's, that.
  19. How the hell did Duke manage so many offensive rebounds?
  20. Amazing isn't it? The slower, less athletic team manages to have the foul advantage, simply amazing.
  21. I'm hoping Baylor and Butler because it would be something different (and I hate Duke). Seconded about Baylor, I hate Duke as well, but, Baylor' far more fun to watch. They're aren't just a bunch of jump shooters like Duke, also, being quicker and athletically superior to Duke I'm trying to figure out how they've more team fouls than Duke.
  22. 7 goals on 20 shots, doesn't really matter how well the defense plays when he's in goal. He can't even keep the game close, really shouldn't be anywhere near the playoff roster.
  23. You really need to shut up. Bring 'em on, I hope the Hawks meet them in playoffs, it's not last season. This time around the Hawks are the better team and they'll take the Wings in 6.
  24. Well, that was a fitting end to the Illini' season, start out disinterested, get down big, decide to play, make it close, lose, typical.
  25. I don't know. They might play like crap, they might get on a hot streak again. Nothing to do but hope for the best. Sports are fickle like that. I definitely *wanted* a better goalie. I just don't think the season's over because we didn't get one. As we showed last night, we are perfectly capable of beating the best in the Western Conference with what we have now. I agree there's nothing to do but hope for the best. For the cost I don't know if there was a significant goalie upgrade available before the deadline. I had read about and mentioned Marty Turco but, at the cost of good young player or prospect, would he have been much better than Huet or Niemi? Probably not.
