Back when I thought Mitch had a chance to live up to the draft pick, he told me not to get my hopes up. thats interesting Weren't there whispers of the defense abusing Mitch in practice? That is doing things like showing one look but, go another on the snap, etc. confusing the hell out of him?

this is dumb because while Mitch turned out not to be the answer, Nagy knew who he was when he took the job and at the time glowingly talked about him. Nagy was brought in to develop Mitch, not install his offense. Somehow, that has reversed. Nagy shares responsibility in the mess FWIW I know that the offensive coaches had relatively low opinions of Mitch very early on, it was why I've thought all along that Nagy would survive a Mitch collapse. I am assuming they were honest with Pace about what they (and the rest of the league) thinks about Mitch and felt they'd have an opportunity to help pick the next guy. The prospect of replacing Mitch with Jimmy G does not seem like much of an upgrade. If that's avenue might as well sign Mitch for a year, tank while keeping draft capital.

Gutless coming from the playoff game, literally no expectations, playing with house money and still wasn't aggressive. If they ever was a game in which to let it all fly, consequences be damned, that was certainly the game. Yeah, that pissed me off too. He could've let Mitch be aggressive and if he was bad, go to Foles. I don't think anyone would have blamed him for it in that situation. But look at it like this, if the Bears do get a marked improvement at QB, and there is no significant uptick in offense....then in 2022, we get a new coach in here that can run an offense and hopefully, for the first time in franchise history, the Bears already come equipped with a franchise QB. Just get the QB worry about the rest later. The QB part, as many have said perhaps, the hardest part to get right, is Pace capable? Thus far, he has a very poor QB track record, this time the job is on the line, desperate people sometimes, do stupid desperate things.

Yes, some of Mitch's success was also do to the fact that he had a good deal of talent. But he was dumb as a box of rocks and incapable of making basic plays against decent teams. I think referring to Nagy as gutless is a reach when the fact is he didn't have any faith in Mitch and that lack of faith was entirely deserved. I trust that Nagy can make this a productive offense with a good QB. It's still way up in the air whether they can actually accomplish that part of it, but I doubt they still struggle to score so badly if they actually do get a real QB. If we're being as objective as possible about Pace, while he is agressive, it's not like he gives up high level assets for super dumb things. Like sure he gave up a lot for Mack, but that was a really big, cool, piece. And he's given up smaller pieces to move up for guys like Trubisky, Floyd, Jackson, and Montgomery, which has arguably added up over time, but it's not like classic late 90s Bears giving up a first for Mirer. If he goes and trades like 2 first rounders for Carson Wentz, I guess we'll say the other moves were warning signs, but I actually don't read him as a guy just wildly misreading the market. I agree with this 100%. Mack was his bold move because he thought he had his QB. I guess Robinson could be considered a big move, because he was the highest paid FA WR that year. But every move Pace has made has been with the frame of mind that Trubisky either was his QB or could be his long-term QB. Even down to the Brady and Bridgewater interest last offseason. The Bears probably could have gone a little more for either QB, but wanted to give Trubisky 1 more shot. I think this year, Pace is more desperate than he has ever been. As mediocre as this team is, they still have gone 28-20 with 2 playoff berths with bottom 1/3 QB play. So, I have no doubt Pace will give up as much as it takes to add an elite QB or elite QB prospect. Say Pace is able to get a marked improvement at QB, do we trust that'll translate to an uptick in offense under Nagy? I'm not certain it'll happen, he's gutless and has a tendency of playing not to lose against good teams. Sure Mitch sucked, didn't help he was deliberately handcuffed, not all of the success Mitch had was because he was facing bad defenses. Most of it, maybe, 95%, but, still, not all.

This about Watson.

I think one was definitely on Brady, crappy throw which, of course, Amos intercepted, the other was on Evans. He had the drops for most of the game except for the TD. I disagree that the one pick was on Evans. I thought so at first but on replay the pass was way high. Evans was barely able to get his fingertips on the ball and he's 6'5". No way he could've caught that one. Think you're correct on that one. When you think about it, if wasn't for our crappy Bears there's a good chance Rodgers may still be looking for his first SB.

TB went conservative in the 2nd half even with the turnovers. They could do that vs GB, that won't work vs KC. I doubt KC will go to man to man coverage at the end of a half. I was trying to figure out what is the most Bears outcome to this situation and figured it was either giving up too much for Darnold or acquiring Wentz without any relief for his salary factored in. But I don't think Wentz is going anywhere now so the second most likely may be Pace bidding against himself and somehow giving Mitch 3 years with no cap relief in years 2 and 3. Give up 3 1sts for Rodgers and then he retires next year after an 8-8 finish. Packers select HOF QB Mac Jones with one of those picks. That is the most Bear outcome. I liked the one above however, this one is most fantastic and damaging. With the Bears its what's the dumbest current move that'll negatively impact the future this one is certainly comes close.

He'd probably be working on winning his 3rd straight championship in 3 seasons as a starter if Dee Ford had just lined up correctly in the 2018 AFC title game. I think a shoot out between him and Rodgers in the SB would have been fun to watch.

I thought the same thing, except when Brady was throwing INTs I also thought the same about TB. All around there were mistakes being made that were beneath these teams. It got pretty bizarre at the end, with LaFleur's call being the capper for me. For Rodgers' part, after the game he said the call wasn't his to go for the FG. To me that's really close to saying it was BS, but maybe I'm reading into it. I agree if you are a Packer fan you've got to be wondering what it takes to get over the hump. When you look at the statistics Rodgers was amazing, even for him, every chance he took worked, it was all going for him, how many possible int's hit Bears defenders in hands and were dropped, 3, 4? I thought last year' 13-3 team was a fraud but, this year' version was genuine, legitimately good.

Too bad for Packer fans their beloved decided to be Bear-like for the NFC Championship. The TD before the half? That's Bear 101, Eddie Jackson with his arms in the air saying WTF happened, LOL. But, seriously what tremendous disappointment for Packer fans, your HOF QB arguably having a career year, with a well rounded offense, solid defense, a really good team, I thought them to be the SB favorite, KC not withstanding. Now they, like Bear fans, can watch another team in the SB maybe, Amos can watch it with his best buddy Mitch.

if you are frustrated with the qb play this year, how does that make any sense on improving it next year? You get MUCH worse at the starter. resign Trubisky and roll the dice on Jones. There is no reason to get worse while trying to get better You have to try lots of options. Put a guy in a new system and who knows, he might improve. But if the worst case is you actually get worse QB play, then you'll also get a much better draft pick in 2022 and an entirely new regime to make that selection. Without getting Fields, Wilson, Lance or Watson, I'm thinking loading up on the offensive line while waiting for the next QB opportunity is way to go. So go with that bridge or patch work QB, having that OL in place will certainly help to hasten the development of your franchise QB.

And that doesn't sound like a QB solution for the Bears.

3 first rounders and some additional day 2/3 picks. Texans wouldn’t want Mack. With Mack I was thinking about offsetting the additional salary they'd have to take on or something such. Saw someone mentioned the Texans not having much cap space so, trading a big salary and taking on a big salary is probably not in their interests.

Hypothetically what would it take for the Bears to acquire Watson? 2021 1st round pick and Mack or, firsts in '21 and '22? Do not know much about NFL trade mechanisms nor am I certain Nagy can get it right with Watson. Do know Watson managed to put up impressive numbers with a collection of receivers arguably worst than those of the Bears. Along with a worse OL, RB and TE.

KC was my last hope to keep GB from winning the SB, KC sans a healthy Mahomes really makes GB the favorite, by a significant amount. Hell, I'm not so certain they weren't the favorite, regardless. Don't believe the NFC Championship is going to be very close, man, I loathe the Packers, respect them as a good team, etc. But, so horsefeathering tried of Rodgers and his pisshead porn 'stache beating up on the Bears and laughing about it, some day, year, century the Bears will do something about it , I hope.

Until we get to see Brady with a truly awful coach like Matt Nagy though, we'll never get the full sample we need. Along those lines was wondering if Nagy had Watson could we finally see the Bears with a real NFL offense? Not so certain the answer is yes.

Its lack of effort, plain and simple, out rebounded by a shorter team, you're not trying that hard. The potential is there but, they allow themselves to pushed around, out hustled, don't know what it'll take to light a fire under their asses. I'm certain Underwood has tried all sorts of methods, must drive him crazy to sit there and give credit to the other team, strength of Big Ten, etc. when it's obvious his team really isn't putting forth its best effort.

Agreed doesn't hurt they're playing Bears extra, extra D, same terrible offense, with a crappy when healthy QB who is hurt.

I've said this before but people have to realize why the Bears haven't had that luck. It's not that they are the Bears and it will never work, but it's that for the majority of their history they have purposefully been a defense first and run the ball a very close 2nd. They spent a high first on Trubisky, but they also made the mistake of having a first time GM making that pick without any input from the head coach, or anybody with an inkling of NFL offensive smarts. The Bears need a real focus on offense, not Canadian offense, NFL offense. There is a chance Nagy is that guy. Maybe he can help pick out the right draft pick. We know Pace can't. Also, everybody comments about the Packers but it's 2 times. They found a QB twice. It's not like they've found a QB every 5 years or something. They found two QBs who lasted a long time each. Prior to that the Packers were joke. They sucked for a very long time. They hired an absolutely Grade A offensive head coach and it changed the trajectory of the organization. Yes, I slighty exaggerated and I believe you're correct regarding the hire of a Grade A offensive coach.

yeah, biggs was on the score this morning saying he has no idea what's going on...said that the bears could have easily scheduled end of season pressers for pace and nagy with firm date/time and they haven't (just an open ended TBA), so as to suggest that it may mean something. Why does anything need to happen? They've a horsefeathers-ton of excuses to retain the status quo besides the customary we tried real hard, made the playoffs, excuses for being terrible end of season press conference what more is necessary?

Hell, I'd even take an offense that could overcome a negative play, so tried of knowing a false start means a punt in four plays. Over the last few years the Bears must be last or next to last in teams being able to overcome a negative play to get a first down, its uncanny and pathetic.

I don't like this line of thinking. The goal shouldn't be average anywhere. People have suggested getting rid of Fuller and Hicks, trading whoever you can on D to built the offense, but that's not how you build a team. If you have good players, keep them. Offense, defense, special teams. If you have to build the Rams, build the Rams rather than chasing a pipe dream of mirroring KCs talent. Obviously if the choice is a potentially great edge rusher vs a potentially great QB, you go with offense but you can't ignore the defense or you end up with Trestman's Bears.
