  1. More to the point, guys like Schwarber usually get moved away from Catcher to get their bat in the lineup at a less demanding position. Why not just fast forward to the part where he plays LF and hopefully out hits his mistakes?
  2. On the plus side, Torts' system works better in the East. He'll go in and yell at guys to play better. Maybe that's what they need. He's probably a placeholder until they find somebody better. It seems to me every hockey coach is a placeholder. It may be the most disposable head coach position in sports. The good or even decent ones can hang around at the same job for a long time since half the league makes the playoffs. It's the same 5-6 teams that are always hiring and firing a new coach that make it seem like there's constant turn over. Baseball Managers are a lot more disposable. In hockey, the coach has to actually develop a game plan and adapt his system to the talent available. There's not much strategy in baseball.
  3. Thanks, that makes sense.

  5. I was hoping that an up and coming guy might see it as an opportunity to make a name for himself. The rest of the world doesn't have a real healthy respect for the US so if you could win there, wouldn't it turn a lot of heads? Or has the US already made enough progress/ earned enough respect abroad that he'd have to reach the cup final or something for anyone to care?
  6. You're better of not watching the Hawks until November. That's true most years.
  7. Why did you exclude 1984? 6-18 in their last 24 NLCS games. The pattern there is the lack of good starting pitching. 1984 Sutcliffe wasn't that great in game 5. 1989 Maddux wasn't very good. 2003 Zambrano wasn't very good, Wood and Prior ran out of gas. 2015 Lester and Arrieta didn't get it done.
  8. This was a missed opportunity and nothing is guaranteed but I take a lot of satisfaction in having eliminated the Cards.
  9. This reminds me a lot of the last days of Don Baylor; a lot of people were excited when he was hired but he turned out to be a disaster. Given your choice of available/ interested candidates, who would you want? How desirable is the USNT job as compared to say the bottom half of BPL? I'll hang up and listen.
  10. If nothing else, this will definitively answer the question of whether Rundblad will ever be a capable NHL player. Three different teams have thought very highly of him. Two have given up on him ever reaching his potential. If he doesn't grab this opportunity by the balls the Hawks might as well send him through the waiver wire.
  11. CBJs fire their coach and hire... John Tortarella. LOL I suppose there are worse options but I can't think of any off the top of my head.
  12. damn right.
  13. I guess thats why they signed Cumiskey Really going to test our blue line depth Apparently the Hawks were already trying to trade for a defenseman and I'm guessing they will speed up that pursuit. Damn that's killer. The goal should be to not drop very far behind in the playoff race. I know its early but you don't want to dig a big hole that will be tough to get out of. 1. Cumiskey is lousy. His signing is an emergency plan in case they can't get anyone else (admittedly a very real possibility) 2. What Blue line depth? 3. The caps might be able to get cap relief while Keith is out. That might allow them to make a deal right now. The problem, if I'm understanding how this works, is that they have to get back under the cap once Keith returns. That might be possible if they could put Bickell on LTIR with his vertigo issues. That might be asking for trouble though since they've already let him play with whatever issues that might be causing him.
  14. That's the theory, the question is if the actual numbers support it. I think that in a wind aided game with everything blowing out that the defense might not be as important as it would in a game under normal conditions. I think it would be pretty hard to quantify if it's worth it or not. I'd guess that most of the time it doesn't really factor in at all. Or at least I can't readily think of a lot of examples where the defensive replacement made a huge play that potentially could have affected the outcome.
  15. If Ken Tremendous says it's a planet, who are we to question it?
  16. If Neil Armstrong had played by baseball’s stupid unwritten rules of decorum, he would have whispered, “Yeah, I’m on the moon.” “Act like you’ve been there before, Neil,” he said to himself, quietly, as he slowly descended onto the surface of an alien planet. This
  17. Check Bobrovsky's stats A coaching change to shake things up seems like something that might happen.
  18. . The cardinals are presented with the MLB crown immediately upon completion of the regular season. (Note: it's a real [expletive] crown with jewels and stuff, not some [expletive], loser metaphor.) Remaining teams are allowed to play a for second place. The "winning team" is awarded a framed photo of Stan Musial receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Remaining teams get participation ribbons. The only crown the Cards really want is Crown Royal. Which they would then mix with Coke. Or maybe Pepsi, because they like to believe they're more sophisticated than the average baseball fan.
  19. That's my line whenever a kid says "Mrs. X let's us Y" "I don't care if Mrs. X let's you shoot heroin into your eyeballs, you're not doing it here." I don't blame people for being fatalistic after seeing Arietta fail. But for some reason this reminds me a lot of 2013 when the Blackhawks were down 3-1 to the scum of the Earth which led to an epic comeback. Cubs in 7.
  20. Very excited. He looks good. As opposed to almost everyone else on the Hawks who've looked bad, disinterested, or confused.
  21. Umm, he's been her ex-husband for some time now. The Kardashians are big-time. I believe he's just talking about the fact that they are referring to him as her ex as opposed to just Lamar Odom. I just blame all the idiots who watch that [expletive]. If it makes you feel any better, when talking about the fall of the Roman empire I use the fame of the Kardashians as a good metaphor for the decadence of American society today. How's that for lipstick on a pig? No pun intended.
  22. With all the people hanging out outside the park, they ought to let people pay $10 to sit in those stands and watch it on their phones. I assume the bar below those seats have TVs and are open.
  23. This may supplant the malfunctioning robot as my favorite post in the history of NSBB.
  24. I've been thinking that the Mets young pitchers might hit the wall soon. I haven't looked it up but I'd guess all of these guys are setting a career high in IP right now. This may be a dumb question but if it is the Dodgers, won't they make them start their games earlier so as not to lose ratings on the east coast? I can live with 8:30 EST start times.
