  1. I had this idea for a thread where each post completely summarizes the discussion for a particular player. The idea is that we'll only have 1 post for each player but we won't need more. I'm curious to see how it works. I'll start with Mark Prior: loved him in 2003-04 disappointed how things turned out ruined by Dusty Baker questions about his manhood towel drill jokes sad/ disappointed/ relieved/ glad he's gone That takes care of Mark Prior. Now I want to see people summarize different players.
  2. You are a pretty shady source. Yeah like that time when he said Zambrano would be better than Juan Cruz.
  3. I think that would be in doubt this year. The OBP different may make up for the power difference. What if you could trade Soriano for a good young SS but still had to pay part of Soriano's contract? How much of it is too much to get rid of him? The next problem is who has an extra SS that would actually want Soriano. Soriano,Cedeno and $25 million for Khalil Greene?
  4. Right...he's the standout in the whole farm system. I believe the writer was trying to say that Clevenger's patience made him stand out in a system that is typically known for its aggressiveness....not that he is the standout player in the system. He's not patient at all, though. He simply makes a ton of contact. Maybe he was saying that it's the only thing he does well. :D
  5. Lost in all of this is the fact that the Cubs entire pitching staff was spent. Prior had nothing left. Wood in game 7 showed he had nothing left and no one in the BP could get anyone out. So how do they beat the heavily favored Yankees if they went on to beat the Marlins? ESPN generally sucks at most things they do but their "Top 5 reasons you can't blame Steve Bartman" was pretty good.
  6. Did he ever actually play LF? I had always heard that the Harry Caray statue was faster than Dopirak. How much longer do they hang on to Ryan Harvey?
  7. Are people voting no because they are about the same? I'd bet that Fontenot is fatser but not my as much as people think. More importantly, the Cubs seem to believe Fontenot is faster based on the fact that they seemed OK with him batting 2nd but they were hesitant to put Murton in that slot.
  8. I forget, because Delino played 2B/SS. Unless you mean somebody I don't follow. And I'm not sure what Simon did to deserve disdain. I actually quite liked him. Cliff/Pagan I'm not sure about either, although neither were very good, so I suppose that could be the only reason. Fat Delino = Lenny Harris Fassero has to make the list too.
  9. C Todd Hundley 1st Randall Simon 2nd Neifi Perez SS that guy that Baker played because he "knew his way around Yankee stadium" 3rd Fat Delino- how quickly we forget LF Cliff Floyd CF Angel Pagan RF Jaques Jones SP Steve Trachsel RP Kent Mercker
  10. An important and often overlooked point. :good: Fukudome Soriano Lee Ramirez Soto Derosa Pie Cedeno Piniella has already said that he won't have Fukudome leadoff because Pie batting 8th is LH. Cedeno solves that "problem". That "problem" only exists because the Cubs don't have any RH bats to come off the bench- I guess that's a different rant.
  11. I vote for locking this thread but I'd also like to see transactions renamed Cubs set to acquire Brian Roberts or something along those lines. Yes, that is a ripoff of the Pedro for Delino forum at Dodgerblues.com
  12. The official reason for this change is that it's for competitve balance in case of scheduling anomolies. In our league we play twice a week usually unless there's a rainout which means that a kid can only pitch once a week. That means I need to have at least 4 pitchers. I know I have 3 and can probably come up with a 4th. The other teams in our league on the other hand... I guess the good news is that the kid that pitches game 1 can catch game 2 later in the week and vice versa.
  13. Flight of the Valkyries by Wagner Much respect to the first closer that uses the Darth Vader theme music.
  14. Another new rule this year: a pitcher must have a game of rest between pitching appearances regardless of the number of pitches. A 9-10 year old can throw 70 pitches before they have to be removed. Under the old rule, rest was determined by number of pitches thrown: 0-20 next day 21-40 1 day rest 41-60 2 days rest 61+ 3 days rest I think by doing this LL is making a big mistake. Last year I'd throw 3 pitchers for 40 pitches each. Now people will be more tempted to just leave the kid in for all 70 pitches.
  15. I'm going to guess they start with: Blanco Cedeno Fontenot Johnson Ward Cintron will be on the DL and will replace whichever young backup MI plays worse by May. What do they do with Murton? Since they have Lieber to eat innings out of the pen, I could see sanity prevail and the Cubs start with an 11 man pitching staff with Hart sent to AAA.
  16. fixed i think just about everyone on this board is willing to give him an extended chance in CF. but, i think it would be wise to understand that he is not a sure thing, and that there may be a point this season where the cubs have to throw in the towel on him and find a guy who will perform at a higher level. this is not a 70-win team; the cubs can't throw guys out there and allow them to fail for an entire year. They seem to be willing to do that with Theriot. Why is it that some people are worried about Pie yet everyone seems certain that Soto will be fine despite very bleh numbers this spring? Based on their respective minor league numbers Soto is the one that people should worry about.
  17. A guy that gets on base a lot, has good speed, can steal a few bases and has enough power to get about 15-20 HRs sounds like the ideal leadoff man.
  18. I was thinking about the lineup Dusty Baker would make with the available players. It would look something like this: Pie- Rule #1 CF leads off Theriot- middle infielder who can scrap the leadoff guy to 2nd Soriano- he's our stud and if you're bass fishing in the adirondaks you don't use live bait Lee Fukudome- got to balance the lineup Ramirez Derosa Soto- catchers bat 8th Then I don't feel so bad about the projected lineups that Piniella has in mind.

  20. Gee, and Baltimore fans wonder why they suck every year in and out. Until Angelos stop meddling around, Baltimore won't be a very good baseball team for awhile. Angelos is a George Steinbrenner wanna-be. Trust me, they don't wonder, they know all too well.
  21. I remember when Mike Marshall used to preach strict pitch counts and never letting a pitcher face a batter a 3rd time.
  22. Teams do tend to stay out of eachother's way when it comes to waiver claims at the end of ST.
  23. Cedeno is out of option so if he doesn't make the 25 man roster he must clear waivers to be sent to AAA. With Cintron pretending to be good if he makes the team ahead of Cedeno what are the chances that Cedeno clears waivers?
  24. What about 1st base? Our league never schedules back to back games on purpose.
  25. Yes they can steal bases but very rarely does the catcher even throw to 2nd let alone get anybody out. This rule is based on the catcher having to throw the ball back to the pitcher. From a competitive standpoint it's very hard to find a player that can play catcher. Usually since that is one of your better athletes most teams also need that player to pitch. The result of this rule is that each team will probably need to either find 3 kids that can play catcher or have one that does nothing else.
