  1. A droid that understands the binary language of moisture vaporators. WHICH I'D ALREADY HAVE IF MY NO ACCOUNT HALF BROTHER HADN'T STOLEN MINE IN THE PREQUEL! I'm sorry. The Cubs could use another reliever.
  2. Other: Mash them into crums, then add cream cheese. Shaped them into globs slightly smaller than a golf ball. Chill for ~ 1 hour. Drizzle with with chocolate/ candy quick. I think the official name is chocolate snow balls but I usually call them something else.
  3. Hit it, Alice
  4. I need to learn how to use my SW from the fairway on like 60-80 yard approaches. I use my PW but dial it down to like 1/2-3/4. Id like to be more consistant with a full SW. Why not get a gap wedge?
  5. Whenever I see his name in the box score, I think of Dirty Deeds by AC/DC. Is that the song they play when he comes to bat?
  6. I was listening to the minor league show on XM 175 and they asked Sickels about Vitters. He basically said that Vitters would be fine and, to put things in perspective, that if he had gone to college Vitters would be a freshman and we wouldn't be worried/ he'd still be a top prospect.
  7. I heard the interview w/ the A's asst. GM. He said that Hendry was a fun guy and they have meetings with him just so they can hang out. Hendry & Beane BFF I guess. Speaking of XM175, the other morning they were floating the idea that the Cubs gave up more for Harden than the Brewers gave up for Sabathia because they had never heard of Laporta while Gallagher, Patterson and Murton all had MLB experience.
  8. So trading for Jason Kendall instead of promoting Soto wasn't a mistake? Or are you chalking that up to laying the groundwork for the Harden trade?
  9. I could see Wuertz or Eyre packaged with Marquis to add a last piece to the puzzle type player. That could be an attractive package for a team like the Yankees that are running some really marginal players out there for their rotation and could use BP help. Wuertz is certainly expendable. The question becomes what do the Cubs want? When Soriano gets back the need for a RH Ward becomes less important.
  10. My kid's school had this fundraiser where they sent letters to people to ask for money. I didn't like the idea of them hitting up my relatives so we sent one to Jim Hendry.
  11. I heard this discussed on MLB on XM regarding CC Sabathia. Would the Brewers be better off keeping LaPorta and Gamels and trading Fielder or trading the prospects and keep Fielder?
  12. I heard Stone on XM and was surprised by how complimentary he was about the Cubs. For me most announcers are equally terrible/ annoying. I like Steve Stone.
  13. I would have preferred they send Gallagher to AAA to keep him stretched out but this move makes sense on several levels. *This will keep his innings down for the year which should be a concern for a young pitcher. This move avoids making Gallagher Wood and Prior redux *Marshall has been a pretty decent MLB pitcher so it isn't as though they're replacing him with Steve Trachsel or someone of that ilk. *If he actually gets some work as the 6th inning guy it will be a good learning experience in low pressure situations. It isn't as though Gallagher has shown that doesn't have things to work on- like avoiding that 1 terrible inning that he seems to have every start. *The Cubs are stuck with Marquis. They can't put him in the pen and they don't want to eat his contract. There's the way it ought to be and there's the way it is.
  14. The big difference is that Rose denied for many many years before finally admitting it. Rose also had already receieved his punishment before confessing. Finally, and most importantly, betting on baseball affects the integrity of the game in that the people involved might try to lose on purpose. Guys that take steroids are trying to help their team win.
  15. The Cubs have wanted another LHP in the rotation basically all season. So Gallagher could be the odd man out with another bad outing today. It makes more sense to keep one of Gallagher or Marshall at AAA to keep them stretched out for the rotation if needed. Gallagher hasn't been terrible but he hasn't been great either. Better for him to pitch every 5 days at Iowa than every 11 days for the Cubs. Reed Johnson doesn't make anyone redundant as he should never start against a RH pitcher and should never play LF except as a defensive replacement late in a game. Patterson came up because Fukudome needed a couple days off. He's the redundant part right now. Patterson down for Johson, Gallagher down for Zambrano, Murton down when Soriano returns.
  16. Sounds like a lesson or two would be better than new clubs. If you're topping the ball that's usually because you're either standing too far from the ball or your swing is too long. Having another pair of eyes look at your posture might help a lot. A shorter, more compact swing should help you make more solid contact.
  17. If Cub fans can accept Jim Edmonds, they can accept Bonds. If they can run the statuesque Cliff Floyd out there defensively, they would accept whatever Bonds can do. Not that it matters, because Hendry would never sign him. It seems MLB has decided to make Bonds the sacrificial Lamb of the steroids era. Maybe on some levels he deserves his fate.
  18. If it is Russia vs Germany can we call this WWIII or is that wrong? Why can't ESPN find 2 Americans to do the color and play by play? I couldn't understand half of what Scotty McBrogue and his sidekick were saying.
  19. By height of course
  20. True, but will the situation affect how YOU vote though? I haven't voted for all stars since I was about 12 (I'm 40)
  21. Why not just make the game count? If they rotated opponents they'd only be losing a home game every 15 years. They could give the teams the money from admissions. Even better, why not make it a AAA game that counts for their league.
  22. Between McCann and the guy from the Dodgers the NL is set at catcher. If Soto starts he likely gets 1 PA. Not really a big deal. The only bad part about Soto making the all star team is that he doesn't get the time off that he'll probably need by then. Derosa and Theriot have no chance of starting at their respective positions. If by some strange reason they did they might not even get an AB before they were replaced with Utley and Ramirez.
  23. Obligatory "can never have too many 2nd baseman" post
  24. Ideally, against RH: Fukudome Derosa/ Theriot Lee Ramirez Hoffpauir Soto Edmonds Theriot/ Derosa aginst LH: Theriot Derosa Lee Ramirez Soto Fukudome Cedeno Johnson I don't believe we'll see a lot of Johnson at the top of the order against RHP. Even Piniella must have noticed that Johnson's hot start is a distant memory.
  25. Verlander is having a bad year with an era over 5. In old timey circles that 2-9 record looks even worse. But his WHIP of 1.39 isn't bad and opponents are slugging like .375 against him. I doubt he's available but what about Hill, Gallagher and Wuertz? I thought the Tigers had some interest in Wuertz, Gallagher is young and if Hill returns to form they reap some short term benefits.
