  1. Buster Onley said on ESPN that it was the Twins and Tigers that put in the claims.
  2. I can't see Millar or Payton getting past the Rays or the Mets. The Rays have been trying to add a bat even before Crawford and Langoria got hurt.
  3. I can't understand why the Yankees didn't blobk this trade. Beyond mere spite- which is usually good enough with those 2 teams- the Yankees could use another SP.
  4. So when Piniella leaves and Brenly becomes the manager he can give us bizarre farming metaphors to explain why he bunted with 2 outs? "If the hays in the barn it's time to shuck the corn. Know what I mean?"
  5. He has a history of arm problems, therefore he has cancer. Lou Piniella: "Hey Woody, can ya pitch today?" Kerry Wood: "Sorry Coach but my cancer really hurts today" Lou Piniella: "I'm sorry" Kerry Wood: "Coach, can you do just one thing for me?" Lou Piniella: "I'll try" Kerry Wood: "Can you make me not have cancer?"
  6. Most of the talking heads are saying the Pirates should have gotten more , given what other teams were asking for relief pitchers. There's only 2 things wrong with that though. First, none of those teams were able to move those relievers for the high price they wanted and second Tabata was pretty highly regarded last year. As far as Pudge goes he has name recognition but it hard to imagine him as that much of a difference maker.
  7. i think that pretty much covers it. we'll use the same update for ryan harvey. Is it too early to bury Tyler Colvin in the same mass grave? No, but Grant Johnson and Jake Fox are ready.
  8. that's good, ooo that's good http://www.theonion.com/content/video/new_wearable_feedbags_let even better
  9. The Cubs Kaiser Sose'd the Brewers
  10. Very few managers have the discipline to not ride their pitchers too hard. I for one was pretty surprised that Marmol didn't pitch the 9th last night. The Brewers have traded defense for offense at 3rd, 1st and LF. Big deal, Lots of teams do that. Ned Yost is still an idiot.
  11. If they are going to upgrade, they should make a serious upgrade. If they want statuesque defense they can always run Ward out there without spending anything. Personally, I'd rather go with a Pie/ Johnson platoon if Edmonds is hurt. Pie might not hit much but I'd trade a little CF offense for defense.
  12. That didn't work last year, but maybe one more year off that contract would help. I think taking that year off his deal will help a lot. Teams still use stopgaps, and he could be a decent 1-year guy to bridge the gap to a prospect that's not quite ready. That year also means that he's more than a rental which means that whatever they give doesn't hurt as much. I believe that Marquis will more likely be a waiver deadline guy since he's more of a "wouldn't mind" than a "must have". Also, they probably want to get another LH reliever before they trade Marquis.
  13. The Rockies have decided they're back in the race and pulled Fuentes and Holliday off the trading block. They're 6 games back in the sorriest division in the league, so I dont blame them. They might even become buyers. Jayson Stark said the reports of Fuentes being unavailable were premature. The Rockies are still listening to offers but aren't sure whether or not they'll trade him. If the scored hold up tonight they'll be 7 back of both L.A. and Arizona. I bet they'll trade him, but not to the Cubs. Maybe they'll take Eyre or Cotts as part of the deal, that way they can say they're still in it even if they really aren't.
  14. I heard on xm that since they didn't get Texiera the Dodgers are interested in Manny. They definitely have pieces Boston would want.
  15. I stand by my original prediction :^o
  16. I went with Brewers sweep. :^o Ted pictures of Lilly gets rocked to set the tone for the series. [-( Sheets continues to own the Cubs. ](*,) Dempster does ok but still loses. #-o Harden pitches well but the pen blows it. :banghead:
  17. Yes, it's not even August but I thought it might be interesting to track who the Cubs might call up. The obvious ones: Wuertz Ascanio Hart Pie I'd like to see them bring up a 3rd catcher so they can PH for Blanco without having to put Soto back in on his days off or so they can PR for Soto if needed. Candidates there would be Hill and Mcgahee. Hill is better defensively but McGahee can also play 3rd and 1st. A RH bat would be good. Does Craig get rewarded with a call up?
  18. I was thinking the same thing. Worse pitchers than Jason Marquis have been traded in post deadline/ desparation deals (Jeff Fassero for example) The Tigers seem like a good fit. It would be a low risk acquisition that could help stabilize their pitching to see if they really do have a chance this year. If he's terrible or they fall out the race anyway all it cost was money. Marquis could also be useful to a rebuilding team like the Indians as an innings eater to protect their younger arms.
  19. just say cheesesteaks... not cheesesteak sandwiches. maybe he means two pieces of white bread with a cheese steak in between Funny how you can get a cheesesteak pretty much anywhere in the Mid Atlantic and just about all of them would be better than the one's you'd get in Philly. you're going to the wrong places in philly. Yea seriously where the heck is he eating? I usually hate cheesesteaks outside of Philly. Places where they used cheese whiz. I guess there must be some hidden places that only locals know about. Really not worth going back to Philly to find out.
  20. Anybody ever hit the Orlimar irons? I can get a set of these new for about $50. I may keep them but mostly I'm trying to decide if I should switch to regular shafts and for that price I figure it can't hurt to just buy them and sell/ give them away if they're crap.
  21. Supposedly he let 3 pitches down the middle go against the Yankees (?) in protest for his fine after hitting the travelling secretary. Manny Ramirez strikes out on purpose to protest team fine. » Hook ... http://www.hookscenter.com/index.php/2008/07/18/manny-ramirez-strikes-out-on-purpose-to-protest-team-fine/
  22. just say cheesesteaks... not cheesesteak sandwiches. maybe he means two pieces of white bread with a cheese steak in between Funny how you can get a cheesesteak pretty much anywhere in the Mid Atlantic and just about all of them would be better than the one's you'd get in Philly. Surprisingly, the you can buy a cheesesteak from a guy that isn't as good as Howry. Well' most of the time anyway.
  23. They won't DFA Howry because he wouldn't draw any interest in trade. There have to be teams that would like to have a LH like Eyre or an innings eater like Lieber.
