  1. And just to be fair. How can one GM be so stupid as to sign Neifi et al to multiple year deals when they shouldn't have been signed at all.
  2. This is just disgusting. How can one manager be so freaking stupid!!!!!!! DUDE!!!
  3. It does leave a lot to be desired. At least you will see Schilling pitch. Not worth it. IMO I believe the Twinkies just got the ok for a new stadium though didn't they? I will actually go watch them whenever I am in the cities now. I went to a few games at the Humpty Dome and vowed to never again step foot in there for a baseball game.
  4. 1984- I was 14 at the time and had already been a long suffering Cub fan.lol I remember how great it was that my dad went out and bought a VCR towards the end of the season so he could capture a bit of history I still have that clinching game in Pittsburgh on tape somewhere. I believe Sutcliffe started, can't remember if he threw a complete game or if it was Lee Smith who recorded the final out. Joe Orsulak made the final out and the Cubs clinched the Eastern Division title, and my dad popped the cork on a bottle of champagne and let us kids have a little sip out of a dixie cup.
  5. Looks like Kit Kopach has signed or is close to signing because he has left the Madison Mallards (Northwoods League).
  6. I remember my dad taking me to one of my first games. It was Dave Kingman day, Kingman was on Injured Reserve and didn't even have the decency to show up to the park that day (I've hated him every day since).
  7. Great article Bruce! The downside is I guess Hendry won't be granting you any interviews in the near future, but since that is like talking to a brick wall, I guess it doesn't really matter. The proof is in the pudding and not the excuses this organization continually makes for it's non success.
  8. The only concern I have in putting Wood in the bullpen is the fact that with all of his past arm problems would he be able to pitch on back to back days? Can his arm/elbow/shoulder handle that kind of stress with less recovery time? If it can I think he could be a good closer, but if he is healthy, he has much more value as a starter. Kerry did stay healthy for that 3 year period from 2001 to 2003, made 93 starts and averaged 200 innings a year. If he is managed correctly and learns to pitch more to contact instead of striking guys out he would be very valuable in the rotation.
  9. I'd much much much rather have Wilson and let the Cards have Nevin. That was kind of a joke. ooops...sorry I missed that :P Hard to show sarcasm on here.lol
  10. I'd much much much rather have Wilson and let the Cards have Nevin. That was kind of a joke.
  11. If he was a Cub, he would be their only representative. What do you think, Barrett will be the lone representative of the Cubs? or will DLee make if he is healthy?
  12. Pirates have Casey back now so that makes Wilson more available than when the Cubs were looking at him. At least Hendry got Nevin before the Cards got a crack at him.
  13. Expectation already so high for Marmol. Don't get too excited, he is a two pitch pitcher that has done well in the bullpen only having to face hitters once. He has electric stuff but I think if he performs as well as Marshall we should be happy, in a starting role that is.
  14. The Cubs drafted him in like the 10th round anyone have any info on him. I know he is playing in the Northwoods League this summer and was supposed to start for the Madison Mallards last night, but they pulled him from the start leading me to believe he will sign with the Cubs and report right away.
  15. Which is ironic. Since Aramis is fat. actually I think Ramirez has slimmed down.
  16. Good time to leave work early and go drinking
  17. The bottom line is all of this is Hendry is not going to trade Jones, regardless of how he plays. Agreed. People need to stop thinking about how to trade Jacques Jones for the time being. JJ will be a Cub for at least 2 FULL years. How do you know some dumb desperate GM won't make a great offer in hopes of contending this year and saving his job? First: Steve Phillips is in the ESPN studio, so there goes your theory of "desparate GM trying to save his job." Second: Because JJ in his first yr of the contract, and not to many teams are going to look to acquire a player at the begining of his contract. Besides, JJ is a Hendry target, and he wouldn't trade him, just yet. His value is too high, in Hendry's mind. Third: If a desparate Gm is looking at JJ as a player who could save his job, then perhaps, said GM should be updatinghis resume, cause he will be fired, anyways. There are some teams where money is not going to be an object and the contract will not be a huge hurdle, especially if the Cubs send some cash. The Yanks, Red Sox, etc.... if they need a left handed bat headed down the stretch they will do what it takes to win no matter what.
  18. That one might be my favorite Cubs jingle. It's my ring tone. I miss a lot of calls, if it's game day because I'm singing along. Oooh...where'd you get that as a ring tone? I did a google search trying to find it but no luck. I would like to know what site you can download it from too.
  19. I've been pretty consistent. I blame MacPhail, Hendry and Baker. And the standings don't exactly disagree with me. The Pittsburgh Pirates (yes, THE pittsburgh pirates) have won 1 less game than the Cubs. If Jacque Jones hit 52 homers and drove in 400 RBI this week, it wouldn't change the fact that past performance did not dictate giving a mediocre OFer a 3 year deal to play in what should be one of the most offensively productive spots in the field. Period! Do I have a personal grudge against Jacque Jones? Absolutely not. Do others on this site have a personal grudge against Jacque Jones? Who cares? I hope Jacque Jones becomes the greatest baseball player that ever lived. It's NOT Jacque Jones that people have an issue with (unless he continues running bases like Moises Alou and goes back to hitting like Neifi Perez). It's the guy who gave him a 3 year deal that people have issues with. And the Cubs establishment of their 95m payroll in 5th place in the standings really doesn't make people want to get excited about Jacque Jones. Though I do wish him continued success. What's the difference? If he is playing this well, I think we should mark it as a solid signing for Hendry. Jones was part of a very mediocre free agent outfielder class this year, so he was going to get paid. Be thankful we didn't get Encarnacion or Wilson instead. Actually I would have had either Encarnacion or Wilson for a one year deal than three years of Jones at the amount they are paying him. The only way this turns out to be a good move by Hendry is if Jacque keeps this play up for 3 years or if Hendry can turn around and rid himself of the contract and get some talent in return.
  20. Oh, I completely agree with getting rid of him if you can. I just don't think the timing is right now to get it done. Not that I want Jones and his contract for the next 2 years...but, who would you target to replace him? That is a good question and I think if you can get some prospects for Jones you might be able to turn around and trade them to a small market team near the deadline looking to unload a younger player nearing free agency. Hendry will have to get creative and even with all of his faults he has managed to put together some multi team deals that haven't been bad.
  21. Oh, I completely agree with getting rid of him if you can. I just don't think the timing is right now to get it done. Agreed. Could you see any potential trading partners come the deadline? He would obviously have to go to a contender because no small market team will take him, unless the Cubs eat most of the contract.
  22. I think if you do it, you'd have to wait a little longer, and hope his numbers stay solid while you wait. If the team scuffles around .500 between now and the ASB, their chances would be practically nil. Then you can deal him. But I don't think the timing is right at this moment to make a deal. If he plays over his head and the team roars back into contention, you might have to keep him for now. Even if the Cubs get back into it, I still hope they trade him because I don't believe that he can keep up this pace for the remaining 2.5 years left on the contract, the sooner they are able to deal him the better. I do agree with holding onto him until a little closer to the deadline in hopes of attracting multiple bidders. I have nothing against Jacque, I just think Hendry way overpaid for him and if the Cubs can parlay that into getting some good talent in return I am all for it.
  23. With his resurgence from a horrible start would it be a good time to look at trading Jones while his value may be extremely high? I believe now is the time to dump him and get rid of that horrible contract. Who would match up with the Cubs and is looking for a left handed hitting outfielder? Who are the potential trading partners and what would they have to offer?
  24. What would we get? They have no farm, and they wont trade any of their stars. Media-ites can talk all they want about the Yankees seeking trade partners for an Outfielder...but they don't have anything to bargain with. well, that is why I added, if not the Yankee's then who? Please read the post and then at least have a constructive post to respond with.
