  1. As stated in the mulitple aramis threads, there will be a potential hole at 3B whether we trade him today or not. He is going to opt out of his contract, and he will be a free agent at the end of this season...no matter what happens today. That doesn't mean he won't be a Cub.
  2. Hill has only one pitch and that's it. His fastball and change are terrible. If you ask me, he has no future on this team. Hill has decent velocity on his fastball but not a whole lot of movement which makes his location even more important. They were saying his location was excellent at Iowa, but he couldn't keep the ball down or get ahead in the count at all last night.
  3. After his performance last night and what we have seen from him earlier would it be wise to use him in a package if the right deal came around? And if so, how much has his value dropped? That great curveball seems to be fine in AAA but when you can't spot your fastball well enough to set up the curve it loses a lot of its effectieveness. Where does Hill project to in the Majors a #4 or #5?
  4. I don't think you can totally grade this deal yet. I don't see the Brewers hanging onto Cordero, I see him being shipped in the next week yet. Also, the Brewers couldn't afford to just let Lee walk, they had to get something in return and Mench will probably give them close to Lee's career numbers. Remember Lee is having a career year and has never put up numbers even close to this. This deal helps the Brewers in the long run because it will clear payroll for them to acquire the pitching they so desperately need in the offseason. You have to remember that the Brewer's are on a much tighter budget than the Cubs so payroll is a big consideration when you look at how they have to manage their roster.
  5. I agree to a point, but who becomes the big bopper on the Brew Crew now? Every lineup needs 1-2 guys to produce the big numbers, and the Brewers just got rid of their guy. I'd be ticked if I was a Brewers fan that the team couldn't work a deal to get Lee signed long term. I know some Brewer fans will feel that way, but the Brewers have some power with Fielder, Hall, Jenkins, Mench and I think Melvin is not done yet. If they would've signed Lee to an extension it would have crippled them in terms of payroll for next year. Melvin is building a pretty good system in the minors too, they are starting to develop some young guys and should be able to use some of those guys as chips.
  6. Agreed. Very goo deal for the Brew Crew. Nice job by whats-his-name. Doug Melvin, would be the GM. I can see Melvin turning around trading Cordero yet. Even though the Brewers closer (Turnbow) is struggling, I just see Melvin spinning Cordero to someone like the White Sox who are in desperate need for bullpen help, for prospects.
  7. with the Brewers supposedly in the running for Maddux, what does everyone think of Maddux for Clark and Mench? gives you OBP out of center and a right handed platoon with Jones in right. then trade Pierre for a decent prospect or two. this of course also assumes the Cubs aren't able to get a blue chipper from SD or LA for Maddux and that Maddux approves the move up north. I don't think Maddux would accept a trade to the Brewers, as tempting as it may be to join his brother. Maddux, if traded, will go to a contender where he will have a shot to win a W.S.
  8. I think that is a good deal for the Brewer's too. They get some Major League talent in return that they can either use as trading chips or put into their lineup and they will free up the money they would have used to re sign Lee for what they desperately need ----- PITCHING. Doug Melvin has done a pretty good job so far in his tenure as GM in Milwaukee, props to him. Too bad the Cubs can't hire a GM with a little foresight. He traded Richie Sexon and now has 11 players on his roster that can be traced back to that deal, and now has turned Scotty Pods into Carlos Lee, into three more players.
  9. If true, I think that is a good deal for the Brewers
  10. I would be willing to trade any player on the roster if it made the team better for 2007 and into the future. If that means running them out of town, so be it. Obviously you would have to be blown away with any deal involving Z, and since D-Lee is on the DL you don't even have an option but it would take a lot in return to trade him also.
  11. And noone in this thread has said anything about giving him away for nothing, we are just saying it is something that should be explored if you can get the right deal, how hard of a concept is that to grasp?
  12. Monday: Cubs suck, not worth the hassle of going to queens. Tuesday: Cubs suck, softball playoffs. Wednesday: Cubs suck, not worth taking a vacation day. I actually had tickets to Tuesday's game (from work), but weather rescheduled our softball season and I wasn't going to miss the playoffs for this crappy team. Did you guys win or lose? We just finished our season out, having made up 4 rainouts from earlier in the season. We got moved up to the top city league and went a very disappointing 3-7 (but very competitive, only losing one game by more than 4 runs). With all but a few of us under the age of 40 we hung in pretty well.
  13. Prior and Wood aren't Santana and Liriano. Hunter, Ford, and Sterwart aren't exactly Murderer's Row. What about the Yankees and all of their injuries or the Dodgers and all of the injuries they have dealt with this year? There are comparisons to be made about how teams have dealt with injuries and the Cubs, Jim Hendry in particular constructed a roster that was ill prepared to handle any kind of injuries. The Cubs had a lack of starting pitching depth and a horrible bench add to that few if any prospects in the minors leagues that might be able to come in and give a hand (position players).
  14. If you are referring to Prior and Wood being injured, that falls on JH for not preparing for the inevitable. And also on Dusty for his mismanagement of a not so good staff also.
  15. For all of Dusty's idiotic ramblings about giving the team the best chance to win games, why on God's green earth does he leave Glendon "[expletive]" Rusch in the game in that situation?
  16. Due up: Mabry Pagan Cedeno enough to strike fear of death into any pitcher
  17. We have enough holes already. Why move one of the best offensive catchers in the game? I realize his game calling and defense aren't stellar, but this team needs consistent bats. That is what I am saying, we have bigger holes to fill so why not use Barrett to plug the BIGGER holes, for once as an organization let's sell high. Barrett is not the player that is going to lead a team to a championship, he is a good role player who will most likely start to see a decline in production relatively soon, and being a catcher that decline will be much sharper than other position players. I like Michael Barrett and think he is a good player, I wish the Cubs were in a position and had a strong enough team to not even think about trading him, but that isn't the case, they have so many other holes to fill and trading Barrett at his peak will give the Cubs the opportunity to fill those holes. I am not advocating trading him for peanuts but for max value.
  18. Fox has only played 29 games at West Tenn. If you look at all of his minor league number combined he hits about .280 with an OPS around .800 - .820 range. He may not be ready in 2007 but I would definitely think he has a chance at being in the mix whether in Spring Training or sometime before the end of 2007 (this is based on the assumption that he figures out AA pitching and continues his progression, remember he looked pretty good at the plate in spring training this year)
  19. I think you could replace him with a tandem of Blanco and Soto the rest of the year, the questions is, realistically, what/who would you have to get in return to pull the trigger? what about next year and beyond? buy low sell high is always a good rule of thumb but it can also come back and bite you in the butt. they could have done the same thing with lee after last year but if lee continued on his 2005 pace and the prospects that were aquired for him dont pan out, how would the trade look in hindsight? I don't think D-Lee is a comparable situation. The probabitlity of Lee producing at a high level for a greater length of time is pretty high, while for Barrett, probably not. I would agree with Goony's assessment and also with your point about replacing Barrett in 2007, but if you can upgrade the outfield significantly going into next year you wouldn't necessarily need the production out of catcher that Barrett gives you. To add to that what would the chances of Jake Fox having a chance to break camp in '07?
  20. I think you could replace him with a tandem of Blanco and Soto the rest of the year, the questions is, realistically, what/who would you have to get in return to pull the trigger?
  21. Read the post, I didn't say trade him for the sake of trading him. What I said was, as much as I didn't want to trade him I think he would bring a very good return and the Cubs could get someone to overpay for him. Most likely Barrett will never reach this level of production again and is probably at the apex of his career. I am not saying to get rid of him, and I don't think you have to throw out a specific name to answer the question as to wether or not the Cubs could get a good return for him.
  22. I am not saying to just get rid of someone, I am talking about maximizing the return you could get. Right now I think you would get a lot more bang for your buck out of Barrett than you would for ARam.
  23. Being a big Michael Barrett fan it pains me to even suggest this, but would it be in the best interest of the Cubs to trade him now while his value is sky high? I am not saying give him away for nothing or even actively shop him, but I would think he could bring a huge return on the market. Thoughts?
  24. I believe the problem is a mutual one; the Cubs shouldn't alllow him to do it or put up with it, but Aramis should have enough self-pride to hustle when he needs to. Dude, it's not that he isn't hustling, he just hustles at the wrong time. -----The Ultimate Excuse Maker, Johnnie B. Baker
  25. It would be nice to get Tejada or A-Rod. We would prolly have to give up ARam to get either of those two. If its A-rod that would be fine... because hes playing third right now... if its Tejada move him or Cedeno to third. The Orioles already have Mora, I am not sure ARam is a fit for them
