  1. I just got home.. OUCH. Z got spanked. Oh well. Get them tomorrow and take the series.
  2. LaRussa doing that "batting the pitcher 8th" thing again.
  3. Does Z have 8 more starts left? He still has an outside shot at 20 wins.
  4. Except that DFA'ing him now would be a complete waste. He's here already so we're paying his salary no matter what. We haven't been able to trade him to this point, but in the winter when there's just one year left on his deal it might be possible. That way we get something for him - or don't have to pay him for that final year. Cutting him now accomplishes nothing. Does pitching him now accomplish anything, especially if Milwaukee or the Cards get hot again and challenge us for the division and he's getting lit up every 5th day? If you don't cut him, then move him to the pen and give Marshall the spot. So what if Marquis doesn't want to pitch in the bullpen? Boo friggin hoo. I have plenty of things in my job that I don't want to do, but I do them anyway, and he's making more money this year than I'll ever see in my life.
  5. I, for one, love interleague play, and I'm torn on if I'd keep the current format, or if I'd spread it throughout the year. If you have it all year, it really ceases to be special and those games become just like the others. I for one love seeing teams and players that I wouldn't usually see playing the Cubs.
  6. Anything Marquis can do, Marshall can do it better and far cheaper. There is no use or need for Jason Marquis on this team.
  7. I would love to make that a 9 after this weekend and really put the dagger in them.
  8. or maybe the cubs are just paying bruce off. this is a conspiracy. that's what this is, it's one big damn conspiracy. and everyone's in on it. Quick! Where's my tinfoil hat??
  9. They really weren't all that good last year, save for a record hot streak.
  10. Anyone but AZ or Florida. Haren and Webb are money (although we beat Haren at Wrigley earlier this year) and we can't beat the Marlins no matter what we do, it seems. And AZ would throw Johnson at us in the deciding game and we'd be screwed in that case.
  11. The new regime is much better than the old one. The trainer is actually licensed these days, and players actually come off the DL and play again. It's just old scars from the Dusty days. Riot is probably fine. If he wasn't I'm sure he wouldn't have stayed in. He was walking around the clubhouse just fine after the game. I don't think it's any big deal. Good. That makes me feel better hearing it from an unbiased source. the other shoe was going to drop but theriot was wearing it to protect his decaying foot You're so clever. I love you.

  14. I want the Dodgers out of the West, and I don't care who is the WC, as we're better than both the Cardinals and Brewers (and Mets). The Fish scare me, though, simply because we can never beat them. Ever.
  15. Knowing how the Cubs tend to minimize injuries, I want to believe it. I really, really do. But I wouldn't be shocked at all if he had a bone bruise or a hairline crack in his ankle or foot.
  16. Young doubled to left.
  17. In other words, PERFECT GAME ALERT!!!!!!!! Soriano hopping to make the catch near the bullpen mound is scary. He seriously needs to stop doing that. I have no problem with him doing it out in the middle of left field. But when he's 5 feet away from a raised pitching mound, I'd rather he not. Didn't he tweak his hammy earlier this year doing that? And he kept doing it when he came back. It's maddening! Because he tried not doing it and suddenly he couldn't catch lazy fly balls. Ok, that's seriously dumb. How long has he been playing baseball, and he can't catch a routine fly without hopping like an idiot?

  19. I don't know if this is true or not, but it would seem that Johnson would be the only pitcher in MLB history to be on both the winning and losing ends of perfect games, should Karsten do it.

  21. OBP is obviously the more important of the two stats, but BA isn't totally worthless. If a guy is hitting .240, regardless of his OBP, he has some problems.
  22. I'd love to knock LaTroy around for about 5 runs here just to get some back that he gave up for us.
  23. We should take 2/3. A sweep would be my favorite thing since winning 4 of 5 from them in early September 2003.
