  1. No he won't. Name the other 20 w/o looking it up. Len Barker, Cy Young, Don Larsen, Mike Witt, Kenny Rogers, Randy Johnson, Roy Halladay, Dallas Braden, Mark Buerhle, Armando Galaraga (he was perfect that day--accept it), Tom Browning, Catfish Hunter, Koufax, David Cone, David Wells, Addie Joss... that's what I can think of off the top of my head. I know there was a no-name guy in the 20's who did it for the White Sox whose name I can't remember (but I didn't look it up because that would have been cheating). I got 16. The full list is here. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/history/rare_feats/index.jsp?feature=perfect_game I missed 2 guys in the 1880's, Jim Bunning, Denny Martinez, and Charlie Robertson was the guy mentioned above.
  2. I never even knew this guy existed until I came home from work and saw his feat on the front page of ESPN.com. Good for him. Even if he never does anything of note ever again on a baseball field he'll still be remembered forever for what he did today.
  3. I know I'm late to the party, but congrats to some guy on the White Sox who I've never heard of for pitching a perfect game today.
  4. His constant injuries are a bad influence on the rest of the team! BURN HIM AT THE STAKE!!
  5. Poor guy couldn't stay healthy no matter what he did.
  6. So far, so good. Be sure to keep us updated. Will do!
  7. I don't see why you're so upset about it. It's not like Dempster being healthy or not was make or break for this season, anyway. We were going to suck with or without him.
  8. Ok, need a replacement in a league where I'm the commish. One guy has been inactive since singup and hasn't logged in once. The rest have been active since this past Sunday at the latest. Good group of guys and gals. Here is his team if someone wants it. First come first served, all I ask is that you're active. C Kurt Suzuki 1B Albert Pujols 2B Brandon Phillips 3B Lonnie Chisenhall SS Troy Tulowitski OF Matt Kemp OF Alfonso Sorino OF Colby Rasmus UTL Yuniel Escobar (SS) UTL Alex Rios (OF) BN Carlos Quentin BN Angel Pagan BN James Loney SP Dan Haren SP Yovani Gallardo RP Aaron Crow RP Vinnie Pestrano P Jon Lester P Carlos Zambrano P Edwin Jackson P John Danks BN Trevor Cahill BN Ricky Nolasco Categories are R, HR, AVG, SB, RBI, OBP, SLG, W, SV, ERA, K, WHIP, K/BB, and OPA (on-base percentage against). It's a 14 team h2h league with 2 divisions. PM me or post your interest along with your email address in this thread and the team is yours. You can jump right in and start participating immediately.
  9. I think the bigger breaking news is that Donovan McNabb is a delusional idiot.
  10. You had a week and that was the best you could do?
  11. I thought Theo was supposed to bring some sort of new "organizational philosophy" with him in regards to taking pitches and better AB's and whatnot? So where the hell is it?
  12. Screw that. Base Wars was where it was at. If we got rid of human umpires then we wouldn't have Steve McMichael getting ejected during the 7th inning stretch.
  13. Pretty much this. Keep the Wrigley sign on the outside as well. I wouldn't mind seeing them expand the scoreboard to be able to show all the games instead of just select ones.
  14. http://www.nfl.com/schedules The Packers open the season against the 49'ers in Green Bay on a Sunday, then 4 days later play the Bears. That sucks. Week 3 we go to Seattle, then back home for Week 4 against the Saints.
  15. Yeah, because you can judge anyone by their actions from four years ago.
  16. You've got a great future in the erik arts. I must train the young padawan.
  17. Oh, [expletive] that noise. Does it matter? So what if they "only" lose 90. We're rebuilding, and hopefully in a few years Theo can turn us into worldbeaters.
  18. This team is going to lose 100 games this year, easy.
  19. "Kerry Wood out for Marlins series" "Kerry Wood placed on 15-Day DL" "Kerry Wood probably out until All-Star break" "Kerry Wood out until August" "Kerry Wood shut down for rest of year" We've heard this story before.
  20. I think it's weird to find the poor job they do charming or accept it as something that has to be a part of the game. Pretty much this. I'm not for "robot umpires" necessarily, but I AM 100% in favor of consistency and weeding out the worst of the worst, which does not happen.
  21. So then you're in favor of wildly fluctuating strike zones? Sure. It's just a game, and having different umpire interpretations of a strike zone makes it more interesting I don't think that is true at all. Nor do I. I'd hate it just as much if certain umpires called runners who were out at first by a half step as safe, or vice-versa. Things like that don't make the game more interesting. The rules are not a "guideline."
