  1. I never said it wasn't tradition. You're right-- it's been happening since the game began. But just because it's "tradition" doesn't mean it isn't stupid and pointless.
  2. I wouldn't be opposed to Hamels being on the Cubs, but he doesn't have to go around intentionally throwing at opposing hitters.
  3. lmao Wow that's funny, but does Rizzo really expect different? Veterans are not going to defer to Harper, and he'll be wearing a target on his back for pitchers all year. Sorry, but to me this is the kind of [expletive] a hardcore fan loves. It's so old school to do that...and there's plenty of those guys left in baseball. I don't think a single person think Harper can't take it...I really buy that talent (going out there i know). [expletive] he's good. Hrm, I know! I'll hit him in the back! Not only does that put a runner on base, but it will surely demoralize the batter to where he's nothing but a quivering, simpering mess the next time he's at the plate! And I won't get punished by the league or anything or face retaliation! This is the best plan I've ever had! 1) Tf are the Nats going to do? Send out Mike Morse to knock him in? 2) Zimmerman hit Hamels later on. Pitchers hit in the NL. IIRC Hamels made one out at the plate last night. The [expletive] of sport...They didn't just come up with this last night for Harper. Bonus babies have always gotten similar treatment....Call it tradition...Or just point out the logical fallacies as if no one gets that that's a free base runner. Simply put the only thing that can be said is that the 19 year old future superstar turned it around and scored a run. His team didn't touch Hamels the rest of the night. Such is the sport....I hope it never, ever goes away...Jah forbid the numbers don't dominate every single aspect of sport...as if the pitcher should crap his pants over a base runner being intentionally put on. No damn respeck for history and tradition. Yes, I know that. You missed my sarcasm. Because Harper was put on base, he scored a run as a result (and stole home, no less-- a very adequate "[expletive] you" to Hamels) which could have been a factor in the game. It wasn't, but it could have been. Also, he was retaliated against as a direct result (if the pitcher's aim is off and Hamels gets hit in the elbow or hand he goes on the DL because he's so "old school" and badass), and to top it off because he intentionally threw at Harper and admitted it, he may face a suspension from the league. That may have flown back in the day, but in today's game there is usually punishment from the league for throwing at hitters, so he may miss his next start as well. Sure was worth it!

  5. The AL East standings are completely upside-down.
  6. Yeah, I never got that logic. You actually hurt yourself by putting a guy on base to prove some sort of stupid point.
  7. There was also another cool little stat today: Today was the first game since 1925 in which both teams used a position player on the mound. The Red Sox and Orioles went 17 innings today with 1B Chris Davis pitching 2 innings and getting the win. Davis had a very pitcher-esque day at the plate going 0-8 with 5 k's. In case you're wondering or you even care, that game in 1925 had Ty Cobb and George Sisler closing out the last game of a doubleheader on the last day of the season for their respective teams. I think that was the one where they were both going for the batting title and it was a "let's settle this head to head' thing. If that's true, I've never heard that before. Pretty badass, though. That would never happen today. Also, Davis is the first AL position player to get a win since 1968.

EDIT: And also, Bryce Harper stole home today for his first MLB stolen base.
  9. Would it be wise to trade him at the deadline for a team who needs a bat, seeing as Rizzo is the future at 1B anyway? Or do we see if he can hack it in the OF and keep him around?
  10. Damn, that was a hell of a rotation. Any time a guy like Matt Clement was your #5 starter, you had some damn good pitching.
  11. To make matters worse, Mo also has a partially torn meniscus.
  12. Arguably the greatest closer of all time tore his ACL today while shagging balls in the outfield during Yankees batting practice. He's 42, and that injury takes nearly a year to recover from. I'm not a Yankee fan by any stretch, but I could never find it in myself to hate on Mo. He seemed like a good dude, and it sucks if that's how his career has to end. http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/7888133/mariano-rivera-new-york-yankees-carted-field-apparent-knee-injury edited because i tipe gud
  13. Something something TRADITION something BUT THE HUMAN ELEMENT! IT'S ESSENTIAL!! In all seriousness, though, the arguments I've heard against replay mainly skew to "The games are too long already and replay will just make them longer", but I wouldn't imagine something that egregious would take very long at all to sort out.
  14. Nope, don't need replay at all. No sir.
  15. Right? I never thought much of the "best player available" concept when there is a serviceable player still available that could help fill a need. Sometimes those two things are the same, but not always.
  16. Where is Russel Wilson projected?
  17. I thought the Packers would take one of the OLB's left from Nebraska or Alabama, but Perry will be good for our pass rush. I like the pick.
  18. they're telling you that you like wrestling What?
  19. I can't make it out... is the crowd doing the WWE "WHAT?" chant during the pick announcements?
  20. Dammit, I wanted Hightower to fall to the Packers.
  21. Reports are that Juan Pierre got that "wiggly feel" upon entering the stadium today.
  22. With our crappy offense vs. their crappy offense, I predict no team scores more than 3 runs in any game in the series. Now watch as Saturday the final is 12-9.
  23. If the Braves would sell low enough I'd listen, I guess.
  24. Oh yeah, the Saints are screwed beyond belief here.
  25. Pedro Mart.....nope...Mike Mus...Nope (Damn you Carl Everett!)...Andres Galla-DAMMIT.... I had no idea Andres Galarraga became a pitcher, probably because he didn't. Armando Galarraga though, that was really too bad. Harvey Haddix should be on the list as well. Despite eventually losing in extras, he actually pitched 12 perfect innings before losing 1-0 in the 13th. Probably the best game ever pitched. For the record, I think Ernie Shore should be on there, too, but I don't want to open that can of worms again.
