  1. Well yeah, Clemens has been a total hermit all through the baseball season. He's been all over the place here in Houston. That's what most people don't understand. He's just opened a new sports bar here, he's part owner of another place that's about to open, he's all over the local car dealer's advertisements, he's spotted around town all the time, the guy's a God here and he has a very big vested interest in keeping the citizens of Houston in his corner and patronizing his establishments. Couple that with the fact that his family lives here and the 'stros have started out well w/o him, and I just don't see him going anywhere else. I DO think he'll use the other clubs to bid up the asking price and get McClane to open up the pocket book for him. You know, opening new businesses could be a sign he's moving on to life after baseball and isn't interested in playing any more. Just a thought.... nuh uh!! michael jordan owns a restaurant in chicago and still plays for the bulls doesn't he???? oh wait...
  2. yesterday was certainly time to bump this one.
  3. guys nomar owns a house in wilmette he's totally coming back to the cubs!!!!!
  4. Pentagine's a worse fielder than Durazo. stats source plz Besides the fact that I don't trust defensive metrics much at all, Petagine's career high in the majors is 124 ABs, hardly enough for a metric to measure anything whatsoever. okay, so you're basing your statement that he's a worse fielder than durazo on what? have you even seen the guy play baseball? defensive metrics, as unreliable as some are, are still going to be a way better measure of a player's defensive ability than your limited (if it even exists) observation. you say his "career high is 124 ABs, hardly enough for a metric to measure anything whatsoever" - so what are you measuring it based on? certainly you haven't seen every play he's ever made in the majors, but any defensive metric is going to measure that. how on earth do you think that you can make a legitimate evaluation of petagine's defensive value when you discredit any and all defensive metrics because the sample size isn't large enough? the sample is surely larger than any sample you have, so why aren't you admitting that your evaluation is heavily flawed?
  5. Totally agree. It's ridiculous but let's still go ahead and give everybody extensions! Actually one coach was fired after 2004. They waved goodbye to Wavin' Wendell. How could I forget that one? Wasn't Dusty supposedly a little ticked off that Hendy let Wendell go? I don't remember what Dusty's reaction was, but that wouldn't surprise me. And even though Kim was the only coach fired, two other coaches (Sarge and Clines) swapped duties. yeah, i think dusty was upset with losing wavin' wendell. and sarge and clines technically switched duties, but doesn't sarge still do a lot of the hitting coaching?
  6. why? why on earth does jones still get to bat in front of murton?
  7. Pentagine's a worse fielder than Durazo. stats source plz
  8. he's been mentioned. go after him or petagine.
  9. it may have been ruled that - runners can advance at their own risk, even when an infield fly is called, though.
  10. this is cute. you accuse me of throwing a spin on something, but then you do the exact same thing. i'm done arguing with you, as you obviously can't do so without being hypocritical. nice use of the end of my post there, though. glad to see the originality in there. (before you post it, here you go: omg but u used my just an fyi!! ur a hypocrite!!)
  11. you mean the game in which the Cubs back up first baseman, John Mabry, had already left the game at the time of Lee's injury? hairston was still on the bench :)
  12. I think you should quit assuming I don't know these things. I am well aware that Neifi started because Ramirez was hurt. That doesn't take away from the fact that he still started - how do you know Neifi wouldn't have started at 2B instead of Hairston if Ramirez was healthy? Exactly - you don't. Quit making unreasonable assumptions and attacking how informed I am. Just an FYI.
  13. There's no reason to believe this won't be the case. Dusty shows an obvious preference for Neifi, so it seems likely that he will start at 2B in any games Walker either doesn't play or starts at 1B. I hope to high hell that's not the case. With your best offensive force out of your line-up. What you do NOT do is put in your worst offensive force IN the line-up. You keep his butt out! Oh, I definitely hope it doesn't happen. But I have a feeling it will, sadly.
  14. Hairston has started one game that Neifi did not start. That's a bit more telling, I think. In addition, Neifi replaced Lee in the game on Wednesday. I don't think it's unreasonable at all to believe that Neifi is going to get most of the starts at 2B that Walker doesn't get.
  15. nobody knows. he could start at 1b or mabry/restovich could with walker at 2nd.
  16. There's no reason to believe this won't be the case. Dusty shows an obvious preference for Neifi, so it seems likely that he will start at 2B in any games Walker either doesn't play or starts at 1B. 2006 starts at 2b Player starts Walker 10 Hairston 3 Perez 1 Seems perfectly obvious to me. guess who started at third base during those games? exactly. better luck next time.
  17. why do you say that? Self-important, passes himself off as a medical expert with no real qualifications whatsoever. He doesn't pass himself off as a doctor, but he does know a whole hell of a lot about injuries related to baseball. The guy is an expert, whether you'd like to believe it or not.
  18. why would he lie about that?
  19. i wasn't born yet. but i have my '84 nl east champions shirt on today.
  20. A lot of people saying Neifi would get more playing time is if Cedeno struggled, even for a short period of time. That has yet to happen, so obviously Cedeno is going to remain the starter while he's having success. Even Dusty isn't dumb enough to sit someone hitting as well as Ronny is right now. I hate Dusty. he's an idiot and plays crappy players when he doesn't have to way too much. with that said, many said all winter that Neifi would get all the SS at the first sign of Cedeno struggles, then Cedeno struggled all spring. come openning day, Cedeno was the starting shortstop, so his point is well taken. fwiw, cedeno was pretty much guaranteed the starting job going into spring training. if he struggled during the year like he did during the spring, neifi would probably be starting by now.
  21. that's going to be a little difficult. he's out of options, i believe.
  22. why do you say that?
  23. I'm not sure you understand the magnitude of top prospects it would require to obtain Miguel Cabrera. Look at one of the other threads - one poster made a very good post regarding the Beckett trade and the amount of prospects the Red Sox had to give up to get him. Not only is Beckett injury-prone, the Red Sox had to take on Mike Lowell's contract, as well. Cabrera is much more valuable than Josh Beckett, so the cost in terms of players to obtain him is going to be astronomical. Simply put, the Cubs cannot obtain Miguel Cabrera without completely destroying their farm system and obliterating any chances to compete for years to come. The team they would have with Cabrera would keep them competitive for years to come though. I'd say you would have 3-4 years to develop new prospects. I disagree. Take this to one of the plethora of threads about Miguel Cabrera (and I suggest you read them thoroughly, as you are doing nothing but rehashing arguments that have already been made) - this is not the place for it, as this is beginning to hijack this thread.
  24. This is another good point. Who even says Cabrera is available? A couple talking heads in the media saying that's the case doesn't necessarily make it true.
