  2. Yeah, he has said many times he doesn't really care about the baserunners and he throws really slow. That's what I though. and I recalled being repeatedly irritated by runners going wild on Maddux last year. But then Hrabosky said that, and I started questioning myself. Because of Hrabosky. How dumb is that?
  3. Hrabosky: Maddux is difficult to run against. Isn't that completely untrue? I thought he was rather easy to run against.
  4. Of those profiles, I was more impressed by Noah's. Thomas sounds like another Chandler waiting to happen. The thing is, if we (yeah, WE. Eat it.) go low-post, we need an offensive presence, someone who can score on more than stick-backs and alley-oops. I don't think Thomas really fits that bill. Noah might. Aldridge does.
  5. I agree. He seems way more skilled than thomas.
  6. Okay, Fred, but can any of those guys out-ROCK Rubby Perez? I think not.
  7. You hate to see something like that happen to a class guy like Mariotti. I'm eagerly awaiting MLB's letter to Skip Bayless regarding his general schmuckitude.
  8. Are you folks actually suggesting he'd stay nin school for the [girls]? Something tells me NBA players don't have trouble landing high-quality [gals], folks.
  9. Barrett is a pretty average defensive catcher, and today wasn't his best effort. In his defense, it was only the 2nd game in the season, and he's probably a bit short on reps due to his stint in the WBC, so I wouldn't crucify him just yet. But if I were going to pin today's loss on any single player, Rusch or Williams would be at the head of the list.
  10. They play the game the right way in St. Louis.
  11. interesting stuff Especially considering the amount of fan bickering about batting order. Sammy in '04 comes to mind. I am surprised that something that is so accepted as important and made a big deal about can actually mean so little. Yeah, I am, too. I wonder how many baseball people (coaches, managers, GMs) know about this. And I wonder if there's a large contingent who reject it, despite the evidence. It's not a matter of rejecting the evidence. I doubt if most managers spend hours working on their lineup, but you don't honestly expect managers to pick names out of a hat to put their lineup together, do you? I suspect there is some amount of consternation when arranging lineups, especially for teams who don't have guys who fit "traditional" roles. As for the 2nd part of your quote, while I get the reference to the article, I don't know where I suggested managers should be so flippant about filling out the lineup card, so I kind of fail to see your point.

  13. What about Ray Meyer? Doesn't he get any love?
  14. Charter is awful. It was out in my area during most of the '03 division series. i was new to stl and had no idea where to see the game, so I ended up at Applebee's every night.
  15. I haven't seen Thomas play enough to be that sold on him.
  16. interesting stuff
  17. But if a SS throws the ball in the dirt on the back half of a DP and the 1B can't pick it, the SS doesn't get an error, right? How is that different than the 1B dropping it?
  18. I do. Which is why I think someone who may know a social psychologist should get an opinion. Nothing personal, I just don't trust your opinion on this. My problem with the chemistry argument is that probably the two best baseball teams I've seen in my lifetime: the As of the early '70s and the Big Red Machine were both known to have chemistry issues. In fact I've read over the years about how there was a lot of animosity on those teams. But they were just dominant. I think chemistry proponents might say enough talent can negate bad chemistry, but that doesn't mean it's not a factor. (And likewise, all the chemistry in the world won't make a talentless team win, the Bad News Bears notwithstanding.) But for the average to above-average team, chemistry may play a part. Personally, I have no problem with those ideas. I'm not saying one should make chemistry the main focus when building a team, but I think it can play a role. However, it's impossible to prove that point, so I generally don't waste my time arguing about it. I look at it as the baseball equivalent to a matter of faith. Can't prove it. probably can't disprove it. SO it's up to each individual to make his own decision regarding the idea's validity.
  19. Forgive my ignorance here-- Stats Inc--who are they? Isn't it the offcial scorer's decision that one would be concerned about? EDIT: I agree. I was just confused because I've enver seen an error given on the back half of a failed DP.
  20. Sorry if this was discussed in game threads, but how come D Lee got an error when he dropped ARam's throw? I thought you can't assume a double play. Does the scorer have latitude on that?
  21. I was thinking the same thing. Take, for example, Maddux and his personal catchers. Is that a chemistry thing?
  22. Am I the only one who thinks Rondo is somewhat overrated?
