  1. agreed agreed count me in on this, too.
  2. Snood, how did JamesOn Curry look? I like him a lot as a combo guard coming out after his junior season. He had a very nice freshman season in the sixth man/starting role at OSU, but has struggled some this year. He needs another year. I'm not sure if he regressed. He may be just a victim of a weaker supporting cast. Tonight he had 17 pts (7-16), 6 boards, 1 assist, 3 steals, and 4 TO. I don't know if he ahs the decision making to be a pg, but he's got a quick release and can stroke it off a screen. I thought he played pretty well tonight. Much better than he did when we played in Stillwater.
  3. KU eeks one out against OSU. Games like this remind me why I shouldn't get overly excited over the Jayhawks' prospects in the tourney.
  4. I find it impossible to like Cuse's Devendorf. Just looking at him makes me root against the orange.
  5. This article is already being discussed here. viewtopic.php?t=29571 Maybe these threads should get merged under this thread's more informative heading.
  6. That was a good article. Great quotes by Baker and Grissom. I do think part of the problem is baseball not promoting it's players so much. Kids turn on TV and see LeBron and Kobe or Michael Vick, and they want to be like them. Not so much for the big baseball stars. And while its not baseball's fault, the same thing applies to advertising. Those guys [the hoops/football stars] get flashed in our faces every ten seconds, and they are invariably made to look tough, cool, etc. But I can't think of a baseball player--particularly a black one--who appears in a ton of ads. Maybe Jeter? And even when they do, the nature of the ads in which baseball players appear is always much different. Commercials that involve baseball players tend to use humor or appeal to tradition. As a result, they seem softer and, frankly, not nearly as appealing as commercials where Kobe's lifting weights to some rap music or LeBron is throwing down dunks on a court in Rucker. I can see why a young, urban black wouldn't find baseball and its star players as appealing. It's not a matter of them ignoring the sport. It's more like the sport doesn't even try to appeal to them.
  7. Could have been? I still think they could win this tourny and make the final four. Izzo is a genius. I don't think there's any reason to think they can suddenly turn it around and win it all or even go to the FF. They certainly have a ton of talent, but the fact is, they haven't played that well this season. They're incosnsistent, and they haven't shown the ability to beat even mediocre teams on the road. They're 5-5 in their last ten. Now, I understand the Big Televen is a very tough conference, but MSU has been very unimpressive every time I've seen them play. It's surprising, too because Izzo is so good.
  8. I'm not an expert on the minors, but it seems from what I've read here, we don't really have the prospect package to compete with a lot of teams. Is that accurate?
  9. agreed. The white guy at the end of the bench the last 2 or 3 years has the same winning % as Brown. So what? are you kidding me? the fact that brown has been the team leader for 4 years (and no, to folks who don't know much about the illini but seem to think they do, deron wasn't ever the leader), playing a majority of the minutes and often dictating the pace of the games means nothing? i guess to you he's about as responsible for the team wins as some walk-on, though. hating. If Dee had been surrounded by different players throughout his career, his Win column total would probably be different. I don't care if he controls tempo, refills the water bottles, and presses Weber's orange blazer before every game--wins can't be attributed to Dee (or any single player.) And for the record, while I hate the Illini, I like Dee Brown. I think he's a very good college player. it's that way with every college player and team, but to assert that some walk-on at the end of the bench is as responsible for the team's victories as dee is absolutely ridiculous. why is it so hard to agree with me on this one? what on earth would cause you to hate the illini? Besides their fans' paranoia and inferiority complex? :P We have a winner. And because every Illini fan I know never misses a chance to take a shot at Kansas. And of course I agree with you on Dee's impact compared to that of a walk-on. Like I said, I like Dee. He's fun to watch, and he's good for the game. And he's always seemed like a genuinely nice kid. I hope he can stick in the NBA, make a little moolah for himself.

  11. Great. Now I'm going to have one of those four-hour erections they warn you about on viagra commercials, even if this rumor is bogus. And by the way, what kind of thing is that for the original writer to post? "You should hear the list of players the Marlins want..." seems to indicate the writer HAS heard it...but he then refuses to tell us? Spill it, chuckles.
  12. constable-- You spelled valiant wrong in your sig--you know, where you're making fun of Dusty's inteliigence.
  13. Bill Self Big XII COY. Brandon Rush 1st Team All-Big XII (Not sure he had the numbers) Julian Wright, Rush, Mario Chalmers All-Big XII Rookie Team Chalmers and Russell Robinson All-Big XII Defensive Team. Congrats boys!
  14. I'm going to preface this by saying that I didn't see the second half yesterday, nor have I looked at the box score, just the final on a ticker. Dee Brown is overrated. He's not a very good scorer at all, 55th of 58 B10 players in PPWS. He's a very good defender, and he does a good job of not turning the ball over and distributing, but in all honesty he doesn't belong on the B10 first team. Now, feel free to say that I hate Illinois and all that it stands for, and that I'm bitter about yesterday or the season or whatever. Ok, you ask Tom Izzo what he thinks of Dee Brown being overrated. Anyone who has played the game at a high level would be the first to tell you that if anything in someways Dee Brown is underrated. All he has done his entire career is win. Maybe Mizzou should pick up some overrated players like Dee Brown. I just get tired of reading this garbage all the time. There is more to playing basketball than scoring. I would say that John Stockton is one of the best players ever to play basketball, did he score over 20 points a game? What number was he in the league with the cute stat you are using. Dee has switched to the most demanding position on the court for his senior year after losing two other NBA guards from his team and all he has done is lead that team to a 25-5 record. If you want overrated look no farther than Paul Leg Cramp Davis. Did Paul ever once beat Illinois in his career? Dustyism. Wins are a team stat, one that Dee isn't solely responsible for. It's only barely relevant when evaluating individual players.
  15. He's a stud. Too bad he didn't pick Mizzou... No hard feelings though, I wouldn't go to Mizzou either if I was a 5 star recruit. Mizzou is such a mess. Still, he would have looked good in black and gold... I heard that Mizzou refused to recruit/deal with his younger brother because of what his dad did to the university. He pulled a Cushman on Snyder, saying not to go after any other big men because Tyler was a done deal to Mizzou, then dumped him. Good to see Duke go down. Looks like Redick's jumper is losing it's legs. His last 4 games he's 5 of 21, 3 of 10, 10 of 28, and 5 of 21 from the field. You could make the case that an early ACC exit, even if it means a 2 seed in the NCAA's, would be best for Duke's Final Four and Championship aspirations. Duke could be in trouble with the 8/9 game. Say an athletic team like Kansas gets that seed. They are long and athletic and would give Duke all they want. That's not gonna happen. I agree though, that Kansas should be feared. We better get higher than a 9. As for beating Duke, it's possible, but unfortunately we aren't very battle tested due to a horrible BigXII. Still, it's been a fun team to watch, and I think Self has done a great job with them. 22-7 and no worse than co-BigXII champs this year. And that's with all fresh and soph starters, and no players, outside of one senior walkon, who played much last year.
  16. Yeah... fun... Ponson - 2 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 HBP, 1 HR Reyes - 2.1 IP, 5 ER, 5 H, 2 BB (1 IBB), 0 K, 0 HBP, 1 HR :? Does this make Ponson the heavy favorite for the fifth starter's role? At the very least, he's right in the thick of things.
  17. By the way, I've heard that Ponson is Dutch for fat. "Panzon" is Spanish for fat... Gordo is, actually. Unless 'panzon' is some sort of slang or something. I've never heard of it though. Not that I speak or listen to spanish slang often. Panzón does mean fat. Or, more accuarately, pot-bellied.
  18. From the Trib So what exactly is going on with Prior? Is he injured? I know there was the Will Carroll thing, but I thought that was allegedly false.
  19. The better team won and this just goes to show how bad defensively Syracuse is this year. I think Boeheim and his staff have done their worst coaching in a long time this year. 'Cuse is still eligible ofor the Big E tourney, right? If so, do they need a strong showing to make the dance, or are they safe?
  20. I think that was Ron Franklin, Southside. And you're right. tacky.
  21. Not exactly murderers row, but still, good news.
  22. Ugh. In the current bracketology, KU has a first round matchup with SIU, 2nd round matchup with Pitsnogle & Co., and a 3rd round matchup with Duke. Those are three pretty tough draws. Me no likey.
  23. I forgot how bad an arm Pierre has. You can actually tell from a still photo. That guy is the definition of a pie-thrower.
